Los amigos (1973)
Good Music!
The plot of this movie and the characters may be a little bit suspect but the photography is brilliant and, to add to the appeal, so was the music which was written by a name that I have never heard of before i.e. Daniele Patucchi. Soundtrack collectors like myself may be interested to know that the main themes are available on a CD entitled "Wanted - Dead or Alive". catalogue No. CVS 900-020. I enclose the number as it is an Italian CD but if I found it in Australia you can guarantee that it is more readily available elsewhere.
Anthony Quinn and Franco Nero, who have appeared together in other productions, have this rapport between them that is so obvious. See this movie! Don't analyse it. Just sit back and enjoy it!
The Fatal Night (1948)
What a surprise!!!
I first saw this movie when I was 12 years old (that's a long time ago) and it scared the living daylights out of me. I didn't remember much about it (as I spent most of the movie under the seat) until I saw it much later. What a cracker for a low budget film made in 1948. It said everything in a short time as it was only 50 minutes long. Of course it would be dated now but in its time it must have been one of the best horror-type films around. I had seen Frankenstein, Dracula and the Wolfman which were classics of their time but quite laughable when you come to think of it but this one stilled scared the life out of me even at the later viewing. Again, as with "Incident at Owl Creek" and "The Stranger Left No Card" length did not matter. See it if you can!
La rivière du hibou (1961)
What a great movie!
I first saw this film when released but of course at that time audiences were not as sophisticated as they are now. The scene where the two lovers were running towards each other in slow motion was an absolute novelty and was rewarded with guffaws of laughter until the moment came at the climax when we were rewarded with an astonished total silence. One of those few moments in the movies which stand out in ones memory forever. I recently found a copy on video in one of the Twilight Zone series but the quality was disgraceful and totally distracted us from the quality of the production. What a great movie even though it was very short but as with "The stranger Left No Card" length does not matter
