One thing I like about Jerry Lewis is his satire. Yes, there are some gags in this movie that are very much overdone or just not funny. (It is painful for me to watch the nightclub scene with the band.) But one of his most fabulous jokes I have seen--both in writing and performance--is when he plays himself in this movie. I love every detail of it!

In my opinion, the first half of The Delicate Delinquent features overly animated acting, jokes that aren't even funny, Jerry using a much-too-high voice, and an awkward storyline. However, about halfway through the movie, it suddenly starts to become more interesting. Jerry's voice gets lower, his bits are more tolerable--some even amusing, and the storyline becomes richer. I really thought I would not like this movie through and through, but with the end being more like a drama, it turned out okay and even somewhat inspiring. Or at least, relatable.

Aside from Jerry's shoes, the star of this movie is definitely the set. It's delightful to see the introduction of the girls with their various talents in this dollhouse setting. I enjoyed the cameos as well as Helen Traubel and Kathleen Freeman's performances. These two ladies were wonderful. This is one of the few movies where Jerry doesn't use his man-child voice which is always nice and there were a few scenes that I thought were funny.
On the other hand, the sound quality and camera work weren't great. Despite it's flaws, I think this movie's uniqueness (the set) and occasional funny bits make it deserving to watch if you enjoy old comedies.

Jerry Lewis is too over-the-top for my taste in this movie. His slapstick antics are just too much. There were some funny bits that made me laugh (watch for the young nurse's exasperated look to camera), but I did not like the random comedy scenes thrown in that didn't add to the story. These scenes made the movie feel disjointed.
However, Kathleen Freeman as Nurse Higgins was wonderful! If you like old slapstick you may want to watch this movie just for her role--especially her melt-down scene. Love it.

This is my favorite "scary" movie to watch on a stormy evening. It is more comedy than thriller, and enjoyed even by my young school-aged children--who find it only very mildly creepy and infinitely more funny.
I really like that Martin and Lewis' characters don't seem to outshine the other in this movie. It starts off with Larry's story (Martin), a fun song, and a romantic fling (of course). But his pal Myron (Lewis) is soon introduced and is there to help Larry out clear to the end of the story.
There are too many memorable parts to recount. The dummy bit is hilarious, the "Enchiladas" song is delightfully catchy, and the lip syncing scene is absolutely "made" by Martin just as much as Lewis.
I have probably watched this movie ten times from childhood through now and still love it.

This movie may not make the most sense, but it sure is funny. The dynamic between Martin and Lewis is delightful.
There are so many funny bits and the whole premise is just so ridiculous. I highly recommend watching if you are a fan of silliness. Even my children, who get bored of my old movies, enjoyed this one.

Eddie Mayehoff is great in the beginning and I actually think Jerry Lewis does some of his best acting as Junior! A good chunk of the humor in this movie is due to the irony of how the characters perceive themselves or are portrayed as compared to the reality. I just wish Dean Martin's character would have been better. I find his role in this movie to be disappointing. He is capable of much more.
Overall, I really enjoyed the first half or so, but was a little bored toward the middle/end. If you enjoy slower movies and want to see a good performance by both Eddie Mayehoff and Jerry Lewis, this is a good one.

I really enjoyed this movie. Even the cover photo for this movie made me laugh (the one they picture on Amazon). I always thought westerns were boring as a kid and love the satirical parts of this western comedy.
If you especially love the Martin side of Martin and Lewis, you will enjoy it. He has some really great songs. I thought Jerry was over-the-top in a few scenes and not at his finest, but he still has some funny bits. His song and dance in the saloon are fantastic.

Dean and Jerry seem as though they are just going through the motions in this movie. I don't think I laughed at all and was kind of bored.
I am also disturbed by the scene where Dean's character, Steve, grabs Terry and forcefully kisses her. When she wriggles free, clearly not consenting, he keeps following and grabbing her. I watch a lot of old movies (love Jerry Lewis) and understand that mindsets were different, but this is really unacceptable. I thought the whole movie was just overly sexual and objectified women constantly.
