Finally a film that keeps you on edge
23 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Loved every minute of this film, Esther is one twisted b*tch! The acting in this film from all characters is impressive but Esther's character is so realistically conveyed it has you biting your nails as soon as you realise there is more to this kid than you could ever anticipate! A really believable story (it makes you wonder has this ever happened?) and the arm in the vice shot had me feeling rather queasy it was so realistic. The other children in the film were brilliant actors too and really made the feel of the atmosphere come to life. I cannot wait to see the prequel and find out more about Esther's murky past!

I started something I couldn't finish

Warning: Spoilers
I will start by saying I am a huge Smiths and Morrissey fan but have very mixed feelings about this film. I get it was about Morrissey and his trail to stardom but it just did not grab me, I kept pausing to see how long was left and if there was enough time for some kind of big event to still happen but it never did. It was very humdrum, some parts were ok, the acting was on the whole good but the story just lacked that something and dragged on and on. Given the rights to songs are refused it does make you wonder what the purpose of the film was. All other music biopics bring the story to life with relative music and brings you into the era with life and meaning. This film does not. The best (and one of very few) musical parts to the film was where he rides the filing trolley down the corridor to Waltz 2. Thank goodness the real Smiths were outstanding or I would not have even given this airtime.

Not too dreadful

Warning: Spoilers
Really good acting and was tense in parts with some things going on you can imagine could happen some a little far fetched just to add horror (feet in the vices I mean who the hell can run off mid labour!! ) when I'd say it was definitely more of a thriller. The finishing the meal scene was probably the most cruel aside from the obvious baby trafficking . But the ending was somewhat disappointing and could have been more intense and could even have lead to a sequel if they'd played it right and thought ahead. Enjoyed watching it it won't set the world in fire but have seen much much worse films.

Brilliant

Loved this film, easy to watch, very believable and totally down to earth and well cast. Set in gritty Salford it does show ordinary lives and a story that could happen. Hilarious.

Utter rubbish

Terrible story if you can call it that, nothing gelled, pointless from start to finish and what the hell was that nightmare scene about? One of the worst films I've ever watched.

Mediocre
1 June 2020
Sorry but I just don't think this was a great film, started off well but then the story seemed to go off on a seedy tangent, far too many soundtracks played and the acting in some of the scenes was just dreadful. Some of the editing into the next scene was very dated and just did not work.
