Shaheed-E-Mohabbat Boota Singh (1999)
An all round excellent movie based on Lifes torn apart by Partition.
This is one of the most realistic movies based on partition. It inspired a lot of copies but I think none came close in terms of acting, story or Music. Great acting by Gurdass Mann and Divya Dutta gave this movie a very strong backbone. Music by both Gurdass Mann and late Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan make the entire experience of this movie a joyful one. It hits some very emotional chords with people who went through the partition. Cross border love is not something we come across very often in the sub continent. The story revolves around the life of Botta Singh Played exceptionally well by Gurdas Mann. Movie sounds much better than the latter ones based on the same theme cause it is done in Punjabi the language of the region. It is a must see. If you liked this movie you would like Pinjar and also Train to Pakistan if you can find the latter one.
Shool (1999)
Great Movie, Nice dance by Shilpa Shetty
Should be seen. One of the few movies which touch of reality a bit in Bollywood. The norm in Bollywood being that reality goes out of the window the moment somebody starts writing a script. There are numerous examples of the rule. But revenue seems to be more important than good film making. That argument aside, Like I said this happens to be a better made movies. Powerful performances by Bajpai and Sayaji Shinde. The film has some funny moments balanced well into the whole script. I simply loved that "why the sun rises from the east" question and its answer. Good flowing speed and it doesn't bore you. Watch it. one of the highlight performances by Manoj Bajpai
