Great idea for a story but acting was terrible
26 February 2023
So I gave this movie 7/10 because I thought the storyline was excellent. There were some good or at least decent performances but for the most part the acting was terrible. I've never seen many of the actors in anything so it's possible that they were extras, low budget actors, or actors who didn't have a lot of experience. This is fine, I'm all for giving people an opportunity. I'm just sorry that the storyline seems to be underappreciated based on the low ratings. This film could have been 10 out of 10 had there been more experienced actors. I love Michael Jai White, always have, and I really like Tom Berenger but I think a movie is only as good as the directing and it's acting. So if I'm going to put blame anywhere it would be on those two items -- the directing and the acting. Also, the editing could have really used some work.

Holiday Rush (2019)

Tired of Rotten Kids Movies
3 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This movie brought nothing new to the stable of holiday movies. The characters aren't particularly likeable, the storyline is typical and predictable and I feel Netflix really dropped the ball here. 6-year old kids know how to start a GoFundMe campaign to get Christmas gifts for themselves, but they can't understand that their father lost his job. Then there are the 2 oldest kids who are selfish, spoiled rotten, and cliched.

The drama and conflict seems very forced to the point that it doesn't seem like the characters in the movie believe the plot. I'm tired of seeing movies and TV shows with spoiled rotten, selfish, unlikeable kids, and parents who are nothing but ATMs. Why not depict kids with character who understand the love of a parent? We should be beyond this crappy, formulaic bs in 2019. Netflix, please do better.

Slow, Boring, and Over-hyped
24 November 2019
I watched this film because I'm a big fan of Wendell Pierce. I think he's an incredible actor who's talent is underutilized. Whereas Mr. Pierce's talent shone through in this film, the film itself was murky. It was slow; the film was poorly lit; the message too be conveyed, if there was a message, was absent from the film; and the writing seemed unsteady. I feel like I wasted my 78 minutes on characters who were not likeable and who were extremely detached from each other and from the film. This film was over-hyped and a waste of time, and I can't help but think that the critics raved over the film because it presented yet another set of black folks who were downtrodden, addicted to a substance, and self-pitying.
