Only Murders in the Building: Open and Shut (2021)
10/10
I absolutely loved every minute of this show. It's refreshing, funny and original. Steve Martin and Martin Short are incredible together. It's like nothing else I've seen- a modern murder mystery that's simultaneously a love letter to Manhattan. Extremely well done.
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019)
Great
This feels more like an extended episode than it does a movie, but I don't feel like this is necessarily a bad thing. El Camino covers Jesse's story with just the right amount of flashback scenes to paint a picture of what's been going on, without cramming in so much detail that you're left feeling it needs it own series. Lots of appearances from familiar faces but all done very fittingly and without it being 2 hours of cringeworthy and unnecessary cameos. I really enjoyed it, it's a slow burner but so was the series itself so it fits so well.
The Lion King (2019)
Loved it!
I really don't understand the bad reviews. We're a family of die hard Disney fans and I was so worried we would be let down after reading some of the comments on here. The film was absolutely stunning. There weren't many changes to the original dialogue but I didn't feel it would need it as it was so good already. Timon and Pumba were hilarious. Scar got us all riled up and *that* Mufasa scene was even more heartbreaking when viewed as live action. It was perfect.
Rough Night (2017)
A good laugh
I really enjoyed this. The cast was great and it was funny. Yeah, a lot of points were a bit daft but it's a light comedy about a bachelorette party. It was never going to be an Oscar winner. Good if you like The Spy Who Dumped Me, Bridesmaids and 22 Jump street.
Wine Country (2019)
Bridesmaids for those in their late 40's
I really don't get the hate around this film. I really enjoyed it.
I love the cast, particularly Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. I felt like the writing was spot on, enough of the silly slapstick that you expect from an SNL alumni heavy cast but also lots of jokes that wholly tied in with the age of the main characters. I feel like it was Bridesmaids for ladies in their late 40's.
It reminded me a lot of the Adam Sandler movie "The Week Of". It's a film which reflects how the writers have reached a different point in their life- the humour is different but life in your 40's and 50's is very different to life in your 20's and 30's.
