Killing Eve (2018–2022)
2/10
Are people being paid to give 10/10 reviews?
19 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The general rate is 8.3/10? Really? I mean... really?

Ok. I actually went through the first three seasons just not to be unfair. I was actually expecting the show would get better because I love Jodi Comer, but it just got worse and worse. So here's my rant.

Nothing makes sense. Why is Oksana so obsessed with Eve? Just by the looks? Because of Anna? Why? And people get murdered by the dozens and no one even cares anymore. Reminded me a bit of The Following - a complete and disgusting lack of regard for life that wouldn't really go too well in real life. Ok, she's a killer, but when the killings get boring, no matter how graphic they are... There you see something is truly wrong with this show.

Now, Sandra Oh. That's the first time I watch her acting and I sure hope she's better in other shows and movies, because her acting is just awful here. Maybe it's the stupid character too? All I know is that since she got out of a car unarmed to confront a professional global killer with a gun pointing at her with other two other people in the back seat screaming for their lives all I want is for her to get murdered. And I was kinda glad she did get murdered but hey, guess it's all rubber bullets because no one really dies in this show if shot!

After 3 seasons, I don't care about the characters to care if they will die or not, the characters I start to like are soon killed in a horrible and completely unnecessary way (looking at the IT boy here that I don't even remind the name, the hospital boy and even the redhead teacher), and everyone is so damn stupid! How can anyone like this show? It's not dark, it's not funny, it's not sarcastic, it's not interesting, there's no plot - it's just dumb.

To think I was really excited to watch this, and when I finally got to watch it it was such a disappointment!

But again the 10/10 reviewers are probably being paid to rate it or they really are the stupid audience this show is made for. The definite proof that the writers honestly think the audience is made of idiots was when that hospital boy got killed and had a apple in his hands, and Eve googled (GOOGLED!!) Eve and apple. I couldn't believe it! Are the viewers that brainless? The writers are probably surprised they could fool so many people into so many useless seasons of this show.

I was expecting a plot twist...
17 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I decided to watch this because I like British drama/mysteries and I love Jodie Comer work since My Mad Fat Diary. At first I thought it would be as good as the second season of The Missing because of the thing about a missing girl coming back, but so many opportunities were lost...

I agree to every review here saying that the police procedure was totally off. The scene where the female detective shows Ivy the footage of her from the mall and asks why she didn't run away made me too angry. It's obviously not that easy to just run screaming you've been abducted at 13 in the middle of a mall. And she was 13 for Christ's sake. That's the life she knew and she was obviously psychologically abused and traumatised.

Anyway, since the beginning, I knew she had been pregnant during her locked-up years. It's easy to know that. The only think I was SURE of ended up not happening: to me, Phoebe was meant to be Ivy and Mark's daughter.

Here's my theory: she's abducted at 13. She says Mark says 16 is the right or best age. She gets pregnant at 16, but Mark gives the daughter away for adoption. 10 years go by, she escapes. Their daughter is supposed to be 10 at that time. Phoebe is 10. Phoebe looks a lot like Ivy... Mark kidnaps Phoebe to make Ivy come back to him, live as a family or whatever. I mean, when Ivy sees Phoebe picture on the TV, she shows a lot of affection and then goes to the attic and look at pictures of her childhood? Probably to see how much Phoebe reminds of her when she was 10? And then she says Mark couldn't hurt Phoebe... To me the writers changed their minds about this in the middle of everything. I was expecting this turn, but never happened.

Needless to say, the ending was abrupt and too silly. I'm giving 6 for Jodie's acting and for The Shins. That's it.

O sabor das margaridas (2018–2020)
6/10
Good, but not great.
18 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Please mind the spoilers ahead!

I'm on a Spanish marathon of movies and tv shows so Netflix obviously suggested it to me. I'm a sucker for crime investigation shows, so I gave it a go.

It is long. I mean, 1h10 of each episode is just tiring. But I started watching on a Friday night and finished on Sunday's afternoon so it caught my interest. I was amazed about how similar Galician is to Portuguese and ended up discovering that a language called Galician-Portuguese originated them both, so that's why.

Anyway, the main character is obviously a mystery and I couldn't relate to her until the very end, when I discovered why she had to be so mysterious. Since the beginning I knew something was off with that investigator, trying to implicate it was not a real case, that things in that city are not like she's used to, blah blah blah. So that wasn't a big plot twist to me. The red herrings were so-so and somethings came out of nowhere - I still don't know who's Erika, there was ever a body??? What did I miss?

But, overall, the show is good. Has a lot of twists and turns and a reasonable closure to it, but most of the characters are just obnoxious and I just couldn't care less about them. The jealous wife was depressing, the daughter was way too stupid, all characters were annoying. I couldn't even care about the missing girl. The only one I actually cared about was poor Dori - she clearly had time to return the dog, Dori didn't deserve that!!!

Mirage (2018)

Time travel done right!
31 March 2019
Netflix recommended me Mirage after I watched the Catalan tv show "If I Hadn't Met You (Si No T'Hagués Conegut in Catalan)". I watched the trailer and time travel is my thing so I decided to give it a go. I started watching it at about 11 pm and its 2 hours and nine minutes got me caught up!

I might be a little biased since I'm a sucker for murder/crime movies and Tv shows and also for anything time travel/parallel universe related. This had everything to me.

The tension of changing something in the past and altering everything in one's future and not knowing how it's gonna turn out in the end is just so good in this one. The characters were really convincing, even though you only understand them better after a while. Something's are not credible, like how fast a crime investigation from 20 years ago is, but hey, it's a time travel movie, it's poetic licence. It's really about a mother's love to her daughter and it's done very well.

Also, I'm a huge Back to the Future fan (who isn't?) and my heart warmed a bit after seeing details like the vests over jeans jackets, the skate that resembles a hoverboard and the lightening striking the clock at the school's "tower".

The end was good for me, even though I had already discovered the biggest "secret" in the middle of it, but I won't spoil it for you! Go watch it! (In original audio + subtitles please!)

I fell in love with it. Didn't want it to end.
27 March 2019
I created an IMDb account just to write a review about Si No T'Hagués Conegut, or If I Hadn't Met You, if you're watching on Netflix in English.

I always try to find foreign tv shows and movies to watch, maybe because I like to see the difference between directing styles and I love both French and Spanish productions. I stumbled across this show and, by its trailer, I thought it would be just too silly, but decided to give it a try because I'm a sucker for time travel/parallel universe plots and, of course, drama and tragedy.

Yes, it runs a bit slow. I can see how the first episode turned some viewers off, but do not give up! This show is just incredible! It really makes you think about your choices in life and how everything in the future can change because of it. The chemistry between Eduard and Elisa is amazing, even though Andrea Ros is 25 (my age!) and Pablo is in his forties. The sceneries and photography are amazing! Pay attention to how the colours play a big part in each universe. The acting and the costume design really makes you think actors are younger/older in each universe and really give you an idea of past and present.

I did cry a few times, I confess. It's an amazing and epic romance/drama story, with a little sci-fi twist, all without being too cheesy.

Oh, and last advice: watch it with the original audio and English (or whatever language you prefer) subtitles. Catalan is such a beautiful language. It's a mixture of Spanish, French and Portuguese to me and it suits the whole plot so well! It's just not the same without their Catalan nicknames or swear words or songs!
