Day of John (2005)
A brilliantly disturbing short film
This entertaining short film is very well produced and directed by Chris Nash, displaying both his talents as a filmmaker as well as a unique creative vision. In the spirit of the opening montage of "Magnolia" this film explores a day in the life of John a seemingly normal man surrounded by extraordinary circumstances. You never know what's going to come at you in the next frame, be it mobsters, demons from hell or samurai swords from the sky. The short is extremely well produced and edited separating it from most run of the mill short films and features a strong cast of actors. There is great character development despite the length of the film and the seemingly disconnected events in the film all come together bringing the viewer full circle with the story arc. Well crafted from start to finish it is a film that you'll remember after the credits roll, unlike so many forgettable films out there these days. Not to be missed.
Pride & Prejudice (2005)
LOVED IT!! and go to the website if you haven't already..
If you haven't gone to the official site now fully operational please go to it. For great clips, photos and info on the movie. Austen lovers rejoice for such a young fresh lively version of a classic and much loved novel! Kiera and Matther sizzle on the screen and I challenge anyone to look at this version with fresh eyes and not see it for the joy that it is!! Direcot Joe Wrights first feature film is such an achievement he stays true to the novel but looks at it through new eyes unlike other adaptations, this is the first movie version since the 60s (the BBC version being a miniseries)and it is such a welcome version that it will open up Austen to a whole new audience. I hope you all loved it as much as I did. definitely film to be seen more than once, if you're feeling down go and see it, it will lift your spirits no doubt! www.prideandprejudicemovie.net take care!
Bubble Boy (2001)
Unconventional but Brilliant!
In a world of mundane comedies which use gross out humour and teen movie parodies to attract an audience, Bubble Boy was unconventional but brilliant! Now it took me a while to see this movie because, quite frankly, I thought it would be awful, however I found the concept and the cast histerical. The trick with Bubble Boy is...you have to just give in to it, it's a movie about a gut in a plastic bubble suit for god sakes, please so don't try to analyze it. Blair Hayes creates an almost cartoon-like world for Jimmy Livingston (the Bubble Boy) and the whole movie retains this cartoon feel, right to the end. The cast, including the remarkable Jake Gyllenhall (October Sky, Donnie Darko) and Swoozie Kurtz are hysterical with Jake turning a would be ridiculous role into a refreshing and laugh out loud character. The cast is great, the concept is original and the movie, if you let it is fantastic. Rent it, I dare you, you won't regret it, unless you'd rather wait for American Pie 3.
