The Trip 2 (2012)

One of my worst three
1 January 2013
I counted the minutes for the movie's ending. Dago García's commercial strategy seems to have worked once again with a goodish-for-TV movie. I was very curious about John Leguizamo's decision to do this film, knowing that he is of Colombian descent, but also knowing his not knowing who the producers were. He is in my opinion an outstanding actor who must have been tricked to do what will certainly be the lowest of the lowest point of his career. The movie's plot is poor. Colombian cinema has made some progress but this case is not an example of such. Please do not waste your money or time on what is a very, very, very bad movie. Blame it on the Mayans.

Awful mixture of other suspense/terror movies
25 December 2006
I went to see this movie with high hopes of finding an interesting and original plot and was nothing but disappointed. Edition and sound effects are OK, but the plot loses momentum after the first 30 minutes and then the story goes downhill, with a really bad twist. In sum, the movie blends The Grudge, The Ring and The Others in a dreadful way that leaves some of the characters' roles hanging without conclusion. It is, nonetheless, a good attempt of presenting a film proposal other than the typical drug-related story in Colombia. The director was very resourceful and took good care of color grading and light. Noelle Schonwald is a promising actress and Kepa Amuchastegui proved why he is so respected in Colombia.

Great movie

With El Colombian Dream, Felipe Aljure has once again been able to break paradigms as he has demonstrated that it is possible to produce and direct Colombian cinema on a par with any internationally produced film. Tarantino's, Jean-Pierre Jeunet's (Amelie) and the influence of other well-known directors are somehow present in this movie. If you want to see a cruel, black-humored critique of a dreadful aspect of Colombian society, watch this movie. Worth mentioning as well are the actors and actresses that make the cast of the film, virtually unknown in Colombia, but with a great potential to become Colombia's next generation of exportable talent. Trivia fact: the twins were chosen for the six-fingered foot of one of them.
