The Fugitive (1963)
Television at the Peak of Its Abilities
"The Fugitive" is, without a doubt, the finest episodic drama series in the history of television. Who can't feel for Richard Kimble? His son is stillborn, which contributes to making his wife unable to have more children, which turns her into a bitter alcoholic, which strains their marriage, which makes him storm out of the house one evening, which leaves her alone to be murdered by a burglar, which is then blamed on him! Talk about your life going to hell in a handbasket! I think "The Fugitive" holds up so well because of its strict avoidance of schmaltz. The show never degenerates into maudlin soap opera; the characters are fresh and well-defined, the plots are gripping and realistic, and Kimble is a protagonist with whom we can easily identify. He's never presented as being squeaky clean; he's just a basically decent guy trapped in an overwhelming situation and trying to make the best of it.

Hannibal (2001)
An awesome mix of suspense, intrigue, and adventure
I saw Hannibal a couple of weeks ago, & my desire to see it again just keeps building! As a bookstore employee, I'm about to say something that probably sounds like pure heresy to many people, but I actually enjoyed the movie more than its source novel. I won't give either ending away, but I will say that the ending of the film made far much more sense with regards to Clarice's character (as established in the novel & film The Silence of the Lambs) than the ending presented in the novel, which was one of the only endings of an otherwise fine novel that almost made me want to rip the book apart. (The ending of the novel really was that bad.)
The Fly (1986)
The most moving science fiction film ever made.
"The Fly" was the most moving science fiction film ever made. It's not just about technology moving too fast for us to keep up; it's also a heart-wrenching commentary on disease and decay. We're all trapped in the web that is our own mortality, pleading "help me, help me."
The Wild World of Batwoman (1966)
The Horror, The Horror
A truly horrific and deplorable film, with absolutely no redeeming characteristics whatsoever, but on a high note, it was one of the funniest episodes of "Mystery Science Theater 3000" ever made! I think Crow T. Robot best described this film with two of his comments. First, "Man, they just put a bunch of movies in a blender and pressed the 'mix' button!" then, "You know a movie is bad, bad, bad when it makes 'The Monkees' look good!"
