Guns: The Evolution of Firearms (2013)
Forgot a couple legends
Overall, it was educational for someone not knowledgeable about the history of firearms. I thought the history of muskets both British and American was well done as far as rifled and smooth bore. There was a lot of repetition with the same expert repeating himself in different episodes. The documentary mentions Gatling Guns being invented at the end of the Civil War, but not used till the Spanish-American war. They were used in some of the later Indian wars. Custer was supposed to take two with him for Little Big Horn. He left them cause he thought they would slow him down. But as to the legends completely left out was the German WW2 mg34 and the mg42. Almost all machine guns today were influenced by the historical weapons.
Midsummer Rock (1970)
Some great music
I bought this film for one reason, I was there in 1970, and wanted to re-live it. Grand Funk (who I never was a big fan of) are very good. Mountain is excellent, (Theme for an imaginary western A+) Iggy and the Stooges? Ok, it's Iggy. Alice Cooper, disappointing, except when he gets hit in the face with a head of lettuce. Traffic are great (John Barleycorn must die A+). The between artists interviews with stoned concert go-ers I could do without.
Decision Before Dawn (1951)
Great
Probably the most realistic WW II war movies made. Most of the extras are real German POWs, all german actors were ex German soldiers. The uniforms, helmets, weapons etc. are authentic and accurate. The film was filmed in post war Germany, the bombed out street scenes are the real thing! The film is even somewhat sympathetic towards Germans which could not have been popular that soon after war.
