Raw and Powerful
18 November 2000
This Asian Film Festival winner only played for 1 week here in LA but it is well worth catching if you find it on video. It tells a story that needed to be told, that of 2 Amerasian teenagers who are searching for a better life. Their mother is Vietnamese and their father is American. The film says that there are over 30,000 of these children who were fathered during the Vietnam war but only about 1% of them have ever met their real fathers. A law that was passed recently by congress has made it possible for these children to come to the United States and legally track down their real fathers. This is a powerful film, one that stays in your mind long after you've seen it. It deserves to get more exposure. Perhaps more films on this subject will be made.
