Koshish (1972)
Touching movie...
A touching movie about a deaf and dumb couple (Sanjeev Kumar and Jaya Bhaduri) who fall in love and get married. They are afraid that their kids would also be deaf and dumb. Their first child dies because of an accident and they feel they could have prevented it had they been able to hear him crawl out of their small house. A blind man helps them out with their second baby. When their son grows older (his mother is dead by then), the father wants to arrange his marriage with a deaf and dumb girl (in the Indian setting, marriages are generally arranged by parents). SPOILER ! The son isn't very happy but then changes his mind when he realizes that deaf and dumb people, like his parents, also have hopes and ambitions and he ought to give the girl a fair chance.
An Affair to Remember (1957)
An emotional love story
An emotional movie, quite unlike today's movies. A bit slow. I would have probably enjoyed it more in a cinema theatre. On video, one tends to be distracted. Anyway, it's a different kind of love story. Nickie (Cary Grant) and Terry (Deborah Kerr) meet while going on a cruise. That Nickie likes Terry instantly is obvious. Knowing that he is a Casanova, one wonders if this is just another of his escapades. Probably Terry also likes Nickie but since she already has a steady boyfriend, she tries to keep a safe distance from him, in vain. Nickie takes her to visit his grandmother and I think that is the time when both realize that they have fallen in love.
SPOILER .They decide to meet after six months. But as fate would have it, Terry has an accident and breaks her leg. I won't tell you what happened after that, watch the movie. But rest assured, love triumphs.
A couple of scenes that touched my heart when grandmom Janou says, ` I hate to hear the ship bells' and the cute little kids singing `Tomorrowland'. Deborah Kerr is beautiful and Cary Grant suits the role. I guess you would enjoy it if in the right mood and with the right person sitting beside you. But then, isn't that true with any movie ? I would rate it a 7 out of 10.
