Made Me Laugh Hard
7 September 2001
Mystery Science Theatre The Movie made me laugh so hard that I couldn't catch my breath. It might not be for all people, but if you enjoy quirky off-beat entertainment, this is right up your alley. They make fun of "This Island Earth" with a barrage of comments that are totally hilarious.

Not As Lewd as I expected
4 September 2001
I rented "Tomcats" last evening, an was expecting a lewd and crude movie. It really fell flat on that measure. There's really nothing here that hasn't been done before or better. It was entertaining, but was just not as shocking as I was expecting

Strange Take On a Murder Mystery
4 September 2001
"Memento" is told in reverse, which makes it hard to follow at times. In normal chronological order this would be a normal run of the mill murder mystery. It has the definite mood of film-noir. I just do not understand why it is so highly regarded. By telling a tale in reverse, does that make it a better film??

sick take on suicide
27 August 2001
"Dead Man Campus" is a sick twisted mess that makes light of suicide. It fails horribly as a comedy, because it is just flat not funny. I've seen funnier things written on the bathroom stalls of truck stops

Beautiful, Sweet Family Film
27 August 2001
Mountain Family Robinson is a beautiful family movie, with wonderful scenery and an adequate cast. The rugged Colorado Rockies are here with all their splendor. The Robinsons face many adversities in the film, but come through all of them as a family.

Polyester (1981)
The crazies are in charge of the hospitol
13 August 2000
John Water's movies have this aura around them. It's like all those fringe people that no one ever notices in life get together and get a camera. Polyester is no different, and is in my opinion Water's purest attempt at an actual film. I love the movies before this, regardless of content, but they all tend to be aimed at the audience that also stars in those films....Polyester was the first film that exposed those characters to mainstream America. After this John Waters moved on and seemed to mellow out a bit. Polyester is like a young mans last scream that he's alive!! I highly recommend this film, especially to those with wit, or those who find socio-interaction interesting.

Chuck & Buck (2000)
Chucked and Bucked
6 August 2000
I saw this film in Chicago last week, and I have to say that it's what film as art should be. It has great psychological depth, good acting, and is very funny in parts. I haven't seen too many movies recently that have said anything...either positive or negative...After seeing "Chuck and Buck" I realized what kind of pure mass entertainment Hollywood outs out....they wouldn't touch this film with a ten foot pole, it's not ever going to play for the mall N'Sync crowd that's for sure. Do yourself a favor and challenge yourself with "Chuck and Buck"

Ride with the Devil (I) (1999)
There's A Better Movie To Be Made Here
20 July 2000
I am from the same area as the setting for "Rise With The Devil" takes place. I really believe there is a better movie here. "Bloody Kansas" was a very complicated place during the Civil War era, and it would be very hard to make a "great" movie about it, but "Ride With The Devil" falls way short.

The dialog is hardly how the sons of rural farmers would speak. Here they are made to sound like poets. I hardly believe they spoke this eloquently back then.

There are also some historical facts that are inaccurate, but I won't go into that.

Overall, it's very sad and underdeveloped.......that's very sad, because this could have been a VERY good movie..one who's time had come.....a story about "Bloody Kansas", a situation that actually was the spark that led to the Civil War.

"Ride With The Devil" serves that era little justice.

Zandalee (1991)
Late Night Lock The Bedroom Door Flick
20 July 2000
Zandalee is the kind of movie that a teenage boy would watch late at night on HBO...only after locking his bedroom door. New Orleans is very pretty, and there's some decent sex scenes, but other than that there's nothing more here that hasn't been done better somewhere else. It is what it is.

Very Funny Film
18 June 2000
I saw this at a sneak preview on 6/17, and it is a very funny movie. It was a tad mean spirited. In the Farrelly Brother's "Dumb and Dumber" you love the characters because they have big hearts. In "Me, Myself & Irene" there's no reason given to love the characters...they just aren't that loveable...which makes the things they do a little over the edge.

I have no problem with ribald humor whatsoever, it's just a little cliched anymore to have a little girl say the F-word.

Me, Myself, and Irene will make you laugh out loud, it's a very simple film, but it works. There were only a few moments toward the first of the film that the audience around me seemed to be a little ill at ease, but the rest of the time they laughed in earnest. The crowd was made up of 18-25 year olds, and it's an audience of Kansas folk.

this film will go bonkers this summer, I'm sure it'll be very huge..because it's funny. It's not quite on the level of "Dumb and Dumber" and "Something About Mary" even though it's along those lines.

Please check out "Outside Providence", also by the Farrelly Brothers..it's a grossly underrated movie that is very funny.

The best film I have ever seen...period.
18 June 2000
"American Movie" is the best film I have ever seen.

It's a documentary of Mark Borchart, you're average everday midwesterner who dreams of making films. It's about the trials and tribulations he faces in his attempt to make a film titled "Northwestern"

"American Movie" proves that the best characters are the ones from real life. Mark's a guy who is doing something and not just sitting around waiting for life to come to him.

I know guys just like this, and finally a film has come out that shines the spotlight on guys who are just trying to do what they want to do in life.

Do yourself a huge favor and watch this film.

To further understand the background to "American Movie" I highly recommend that you check out two web sights americanmovie.com and northwestproductions.com

That Thing You Do (over and over)
3 June 2000
I've heard some comments about how many times the title song is played in this movie. Most people think it's over-played. I think this was really done for a reason.

How many times has a song been played so much that you just started hating it after awhile. They had only one song, and I thinks that's the point being made here. Bleed a style dry and move on.

Great Movie, but the book was better
30 April 2000
"Field of Dreams" is a great movie, and it is a classic. It's everything America is about. Baseball, redemption and humor. I can't view this movie all that critically because I like it so much.

It does have a few points that bug me though. Shoeless Joe Jackson was the greatest left-handed batter of all-time, but here he hits right handed. That's an error that will really throw a baseball fan off.

Personally I found Ray Kinsella's stance on Jackson irrational. Shoeless Joe took money to throw those games, his batting average and home run during those games may not show that he was really throwing them, but his deal was made. He did receive somewhere near $20,000 1919 dollars to fix the Series. He shouldn't be banned from the Hall of Fame though.

I've never heard another comment on Ray Liotta's (Shoeless Joe) eyes in this movie. He looked like a ghost, and looked very creepy almost. His eyes are bright and clear and shiny.

I really love this movie, and anyone who deson't like it needs to lighten up a little. This is a very enjoyable film.

The book that this was based off of "Shoeless Joe" by W.P. Kinsella, was actually better than "Field of Dreams". Many more details are added, and the hokeyness of the film is changed to surreal fantasy in the book. I highly encourage anyone who like the movie to read the book.

My Favorite Movie of All-Time
26 April 2000
Dumb and Dumber is my favorite movie of all time, and I'll tell you why. It's because I get the strong urge to watch it every 2 weeks or so. It lifts my spirits when I'm down.

This movie is so crazy and irreverant. Lloyd and Harry aren't exactly stupid people, I just wonder how any one could have culture so messed up in their own minds. The part when they're "laid back country folks" and Lloyd says..

"They've got the Monkeys on the jukebox, they were a major influence on the Beatles."

Not every idiot like that would make the connection between the Beatles and Monkeys....let alone get it backwards...

The crowning moment and line that is so glorious in Dumb and Dumber.....

Harry---"I was thinking the Rockies would be a little rockier than this."

Lloyd---"That's what I was thinking. That John Denver's full of s**t man!"

I just love to listen to them and watch them, it does everything a movie should do.

Good Movie
16 April 2000
I saw "Outside Providence" and really enjoyed it. I've read many reviews on it though, and critics seem to bash it quite a bit. They say it's cliched, and maybe it is. But there's something basic and honest and very likable about the characters presented here. The Characters make you love them, because they are good people, maybe a little mixed up, but good hearted. That seems to be a theme for the Farrelly Brothers....showing good, if dim people, on the road to happiness and redemption.

I recommend "Outside Providence" it was very enjoyable. I'm not going to sit here and blow holes in this or that. It's a movie, so enjoy it...

The best movie about a duck in 1986 Cleveland
16 April 2000
Howard The Duck.

The best movie about a duck trapped in 1986 Cleveland....by far!

Who knew ducks could talk, or that Marty McFly's Mom moved to Cleveland and became a punk rocker??

On a sad not though, the only thing this movie was missing was Crispin Glover. He'd have been a hoot.

I sent myself on a cultural collision course and rented Howard The Duck and Citizen Kane on the same night. Ah!!! America!!

I urge all of you to do the same. It will actually put you in awe of the places films can go.
