Get Bruce (1999)

Charming documentary
12 March 2000
Anyone should be so lucky to have such a delightful biography made about himself. I wish they had had more about the writing process he goes through, but since the film skims over every aspect of his life, fair enough. I also wish they had interviewed a few more people, like Sigourney Weaver.

Dull and episodic
12 March 2000
Maybe if you're in the right mood, you can get into the rhythm of this movie, but episodic is the best description. No one story line feels really developed. Characters come and go, make speeches and die, all to no effect.

Satisfying
7 March 2000
It's really good to see Kiefer Sutherland working and directing. I was going to say "again", but he has been working steadily. I liked his source material for this emotionally satisfying movie. The plotline had a lot of potential for melodrama and all the actors avoid it. Maybe it was just nice to see Sutherland in something "normal".

Break Up (1998)

For die-hard Kiefer Sutherland fans only

Low-rent version of Ashley Judd's Double Jeopardy. Sutherland is too professional to be bad, but what was Brigit Fonda thinking?!? The Penelope Ann Miller curse continues (Think about it--when has she EVER been in a good movie other than Other People's Money? And I'm not saying she's bad, but all of her movies fail in some way).

Needs a bit more Cusack, but otherwise pretty darn good
7 March 2000
Who would have ever thought Cusack could play menacing? This is an excellent adaptation of a play and everyone seemed very committed to the material. The plotline lacks momentum, but as a character study it's pretty interesting. Plus, if you don't like a scene, don't worry because it will change in two minutes. And I agree with an earlier reviewer. The ending is surprisingly poetic.

Much to my dismay, my Hollywood Video shelves this movie in the horror section!!!! Obviously nobody there has seen it.
