Constantine (2005)
7/10
Not Bad, Not Great, But I find I enjoy it.
27 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
All the actors did an excellent job. Kudos to Djimson Hounsou, Gavin Rossdale, Shia Lebouf, Tilda Swinton and Peter Stormare. While Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz played their parts well, it was these actors that made the movie. It'll be another cult classic up there with "Buckaroo Banzai" and "Brotherhood Of The Wolf". Most reviewers knocked this movie just because Keanu Reeves played Constantine. He did a good job portraying the weariness of deamon hunting and battling cancer. I still pictured Rachel Weisz as the upbeat intellectual from the Mummy movies. However, she is now getting beyond that after her performance in "The Constant Gardener". I hope they bring in the other characters from the Hellblazer series in any future sequels (I am praying for one).

Missing a couple of key scenes
19 November 2005
Warning: Spoilers
The movie was GREAT! No doubt about it. However, someone like me who has read the book filled in the missing details as we were watching the film. What the film needed was a couple of key scenes that would explain some things a little more to the people who did not read the book. If the director had added in the capture of Rita Skeeter, an explanation that Harry did win the Tri-Wizard Tournament, formally introducing Gabrielle as Fleur's sister, the Minister Of Magic refusing to believe Dumbledore that Voldemort is back, and maybe even show some of the Wizard World Cup final. it would not have been as confusing to them. I think they were too adamant in sticking to the 2:45 time limit. Other than that the other cuts that were made (No S.P.E.W., No Dursleys, etc.) were OK with me. The visuals were outstanding. I'm hoping that an Extended Edition will be released.

Deep Sea Detectives (2003– )
Most Interesting Show On Television
26 July 2005
The show is presented in a compressed time frame format. The hosts are trying to give a feeling for how underwater investigations proceed. This is NOT the Burger King of science shows. Each one of these investigations could take months or even years to complete. Check out the book "Shadow Divers" which gives an account of John Chatterton's and Richie Kohler's investigation to identify a U-Boat 60 miles off the New Jersey coast. They needed 6 years to finally make the definitive identification. Three people died diving to this U-Boat. This show gives you the same sense of this investigative process. And, if you think that the host, John Chatterton, is showing off or has a big ego, just read about his life story in "Shadow Divers"! Most people can only dream they had half the experiences!

Dirk Pitt is finally back!!!
8 April 2005
If you've read any of the Dirk Pitt novels, then you know you're in for a wild, if sometimes preposterous, ride. This movie has all the Dirk Pitt trademarks, Historical Intrigue, Humor, Action and Classic Automobiles. It has the famous Dirk Pitt moment where he gets himself out of a sticky situation through sheer luck and preposterous circumstance. This movie is no more or less preposterous that most of the James Bond flicks. Go and have a good time at the movies.

None of the actors were ones I pictured for the roles, especially Steve Zahn as Al Giordino, but in this movie they all worked out extremely well. Divest yourself of any preconceived notions about the characters and you'll enjoy the ride. I wish we could have seen more of some other characters in the movie such as Delroy Lindo as a CIA agent.

See Arnold Run (2005 TV Movie)
Missing one-third of the story
8 February 2005
This was a good biopic interweaving Arnold's the two story lines concerning his victory as Mister Universe and his election as Govenor of California. Through any adversity, Arnold has shown that a positive attitude and a drive to succeed can coexist and allow any person to achieve their goals.

That being said, there was one storyline missing from this movie -- his drive to become a Hollywood star. I would have loved a two-part mini-series that included his Hollywood years. It is remarkable that this man decided to achieve greatness in three endeavors in his life: 1. become the greatest bodybuilder in the world, 2. become the biggest Hollywood star, and 3. become a great and beloved politician. He succeeded in all three where most people would be satisfied to have achieved just one.

The actor who played the Mr.Universe Arnold can quite possibly take over roles Arnold originated on screen. He's already aped the Arnold personae as Chip Rommel in "Son Of The Beach". He pulled off a serious Arnold in this movie. I've read that Terminator 4 will take place further into the future. So, he could definitely play an original T-100. Also, there are talks about reviving the Conan series. Who better to play a young Conan?

Nick Fury: Agent of Shield (1998 TV Movie)
8/10
It would have made a great series.
25 June 2004
Truthfully, for a made for TV movie, it was actually pretty good. I liked the actors playing the subordinate roles. The special effects were passable since this was not a full feature film. The only problem I had was that the actress playing Viper was way, way too hammy. As for David Hasselhoff (beside the fact that it was David Hasselhoff, which I overlooked), I thought he really looked the part of a retired Nick Fury. He captured the Nick Fury mannerisms pretty well. Too bad the audience didn't give him the pass that were given to other actors from bad series (cough, Smallville, cough). I would have really liked a series made of Nick Fury. If the critics were as harsh on the Star Trek series as they were on this movie, Star Trek would never have survived. And most of the early episodes in each of the Star Trek series were far worse than this movie. Give this movie a break. We all missed out on seeing Nick Fury every week. Which is a shame because it would have only gotten better!
