What a great little short
28 February 2003
I saw this film last year and, having been a production assistant myself, thought it was really clever and very funny. And especially since I absolutely hate those L.A. Times ads before every movie. I heard that this one ran before a couple of films and the audience went wild. I only hope these guys come out with more like this.

Poorly directed, poorly edited, a huge disappointment.
16 November 2002
After the amazing job that was done on the first film of the series, I was expecting more of the same. What I got was a half-assedly put together movie. It felt like Colombus just said "Alright, that take's good enough, let's move on." The acting was terrible. Only Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid and Christian Coulson as Tom Riddle gave good, solid performances. The worst performance of all was Shirley Henderson as Moaning Myrtle. I've seen her do better and this was just awful.

There was far too much dead air between lines and the pacing was much slower than need be. On top of that, a lot of great scenes were cut, and I'm assuming it was for time, but they could have found that time in the dead air spaces. Or taken out the unnecessary part in the flying car scene where Harry almost falls out, which was not in the book.

On top of all this, there wasn't nearly enough music to keep the scenes going. . . There was almost no effort put into this film and it shows. I hope the next director does better.

Quite possibly the worst sci-fi film in cinematic history
13 August 2002
I have seen many a sci-fi film and gone through 4 years of film school and I would have to say that this is the worst movie I've ever seen. And although every year there's a new one (for the past two years it was "Hollow Man") this one tops them all. I will give it props for special effects but the story message is so convoluted I wanted to shoot my TV. It seems to me that the basic message here is to do whatever it takes to save plant-life, even if it means killing the only people around you and destroying yourself as well. The worst is that the "hero" is quite possibly the most unlikeable character in the history of film. He's psychotic, zealous, and antisocial. If you wish to keep your sanity, I suggest you skip this film. See Bambi instead. You'll come out appreciating flora and fauna far more.
