They Call Me Sirr (2001 TV Movie)

MCD As Good Here As Green Mile.
5 September 2005
I recently caught this film on DVD. I was so impressed with the tone of this film... In that I mean that a film like this could have gone overboard, or become melodramatic at any point, but it never did. It handled the relationships very truthfully, the dialogue was solid, real and never forced. Kente Scott and Michael Clarke Duncan were amazing together. The two perfectly played off one another as coach and student forming a bond that was paternal by the end of the film. Each actor gave the other the room to shine and never gave a false moment. The supporting cast was also terrific, especially the comic relief of Martin Villafana and Alonso Oyarzun who seamlessly transitioned from comedy to drama. Check this movie out... It's well worth it.

Great Showcase
2 January 2005
I just rented this movie because of the title. I had no idea what it was about or any of the actors in it except Joey Adams. What I discovered was a tightly wound little film with great performances across the board by some very funny and gifted actors. The way the scenes flowed between Ira Heiden and Phil Brock was hysterical. Their chemistry was great. Brock's restraint is a riot to watch with Heiden, he plays it like an older brother that not only loves his kid brother, but wants to strangle him as well... This is also the best, most honest work that Joey Adams has ever done.

I recognized almost all of the actors once the film started from other movies, but their talents were really able to shine in this film. Especially, Ira Heiden who emerges as one of the most unlikely heroes in recent memory. Although the film is ten years old, it still rings true today as a testament to the Hollywood machine and the souls that are willing to feed it.

Take ninety minutes, and treat yourself to this indie talk fest. There's absolutely nothing flashy here, just good work. You'll be reminded what someone with a little money a decent script and good actors can do when they are given the chance.

Beautifully Sweet Booty

Shoot The Moon is one of those films that after you see it, you feel good for days after. The film is so well done, and enjoyable that it is reminiscent of the old after school specials of the 1970's.

Tom Hodges completely understands the humor and the angst of the teenage girl at the center of this absurd situation, but he never panders to the audience or makes it seem to over the top.

If you get the chance to find this little gem, seek it out. It is well worth it.

Tom Hodges is a great director, that handles comedy so well that he should be doing more films.

So Funny Milk Shot Out My Nose
20 July 2004
I saw this film in LA, and I have to say that I was practically transported to Cedar Sinai after the screening because I was laughing so hard...

The cast was so funny and brilliant, that I wasn't sure who the real "pros" were and who were staged actors. SO needless to say my porn collection has grown now to, but not many of the actors in the film are easy to find...

The two leads were excellent, these guys should have their own show on Comedy Central HBO or Oxygen!

I have bought the DVD, and finally realized the true comic stylings of these guys once I saw the outtakes, special features, etc...

This is the perfect Hanukkah gift for any comedy lover or porn aficionado...

Outstanding...

I was very impressed with director Tom Hodges beautiful camera work, and his ability to tell a full story rich in character development in such a short amount of time. As far as "short films" go, this one is long on talent. It felt like a mini-feature, Tom Hodges is the real deal.
