Good and Cliched
24 August 1999
All the Right Moves basically shows us Tom Cruise's turn as a young, tortured, self-centered football player. There is nothing wrong with the plot or the story and I think it is a fine, if not outstanding movie. To single out a performance, I think that Chris Penn's portrayal of a young star who has to come to terms with the life God dealt him, or rather, he dealt himself, is the best in the show. As it is a male driven movie, the female roles aren't really fleshed out but oddly it doesn't hinder the movie. Almost all of it is cliched, from the games to the sex to the ending, but it is a fun movie to watch when your brain kinda needs a rest.

Quite A Period Piece
19 June 1999
When watching this movie I was overcome with equal urges to both laugh and squirm. Unfortunately, they happened at the same time, which eliminated any emotional punch this movie may have once had. The main issue that this movie tackles is both universal and timeless, but the problems encountered by the three teenage leads are dated and quite foreign to today's youth. This picture could have very likely been compelling and controversial when it first came out in 1959, but today it stands as a cautionary guide for film makers not to make their pictures subject to the time. Overall, a light way to look at an era not too far gone.

A Good Movie
28 January 1999
This really was a cute little movie. It wasn't magnificent or a masterpiece, but I didn't expect it to. Yes, the characters were totally stereotypes, but that is exactly the way it is in real life. It was real. I thought that the idea of Preston mooning over Amanda was going to get tired fast, and it did, but thankfully the other stories (especially anything Seth Green did)were hilarious while the love story got back on its feet. I laughed out loud at some moments, and didn't feel manipulated or used as I did with some movies. A great way to spend a lazy afternoon.
