In that this is based on a previously published book, I'll assume the book is of pretty high quality, having not read it myself. I must say, if this is the case, this is one of the worst adaptations of a book for the screen I've ever seen. I felt the need to walk out on several occasions, staying only due to the fact that the basic plot was clearly interesting if the actual movie was ignored.
The dialogue is bad, very bad, usually painfully so. Further, it foreshadows with a sledgehammer, which is made even worse in that Lucas makes an equally paltry attempt, and fails with similar results.
This is not to say, necessarily, that this movie should not be seen. The conclusion did hold my interest, confirming my feeling that somewhere beneath the movie was an interesting story. Further, Gretchen Mol is enrapturing, and I was overjoyed to see Cerrano on the big screen again.
Nonetheless, this is not good. I haven't been this disappointed since Sphere.
