These actors bring Steinbeck's characters to life
30 June 1999
This is the best adaptation of Steinbeck's wonderful novel that I've ever seen. Gary Sinese plays George with a great deal of sensitivity; his scenes with John Malkovich as Lenny will break your heart. His direction and handling of the other actors is impressive to say the least. The camera work and art direction are also laudable. Some of the scenes of the workers in the field give a real feeling of immediacy, as though it was all real and not just a film. I could watch this film over and over and still feel touched by it. If you are a fan of the story, please do yourself a favor and watch this version.

A favorite mini-series I'd love to see again
5 January 1999
I saw this mini-series in the late 70's and fell in love with the characters and story, which told the tale of English and Irish convicts transported to early Australia. It was extremely romantic and had plenty of adventure for non-romos. If it were available on video, I'd buy it. It is a really g ood story.
