This Is My Father (1999)
An intimate study of a father, by his son.
An inspirational documentary of William Putch who owned and operated his own summer stock theater, deep in the mountains of Pennsylvania. With a career span of 30 years and some 300+ productions, Putch carved out a little piece of Americana that touched many lives. With contributions from well known actors who performed there: Jean Stapleton (Putch's wife), Sada Thompson, John Ritter, Lee Meriwether, Shirley Jones. You may never have heard of him, but his impact was huge as evidenced by the testimony and recollections of the dozens of colleagues that contributed to this biography. Extensive use of super-8 sound footage of Putch and TV interviews ensures that the audience understands just who this P.T. Barnum of the theater really was.
Tycus (1999)
The guy above just couldn't bring himself to say he liked it.
For a movie shot in 18 days and a budget less than 2 million, this little movie that could deserves a 'best we could' award. Interesting premise (aside from the usual meteor stuff) with solid perfs by a cast of familiar faces. 2 thumbs up. Advice to the other reviewer: Don't be afraid to say you liked something.
