Felicity (1998–2002)
An Amazing piece of Television
19 October 1998
"Felicity" is a show that doesn't come along very often. In this year's humdrum of boring freshman shows and networks trying to squeeze ratings out of old worn out sitcoms on their last legs, Felicity comes across as a refreshing journey. Felicity is somewhat of a lost soul, her father has planned out her future, pulling strings to get her into Stanford to pursue a medical career. But right after graduation, Felicity asks a guy she's been eyeing for the whole time she was in high school.... Ben Covington... to sign her yearbook. What he writes genuinely touches Felicity, so she decides to pursue Ben to NYU. Many of the plotlines of the series (at least so far) almost seem to be along the lines of something found in Melrose Place or 90210, but they are handled with a sense of care, and the series achieves poignant moments comparable only to moments spent watching movies. The whole show has a movie like quality to it, each scene looks planned, camera-work brings a little extra oomph to the scenes.... This is some of the best work I've seen on television. I can not recommend this show enough... it lives up to the buzz. Definitely among the top 5 shows on television.

Sports Night (1998–2000)
Must See
28 September 1998
By viewing the pilot episode, this series looks like one of the most promising so far on television. It reminds me that some things are still good in TV land, that there are still a few good ideas amongst the flood of banal & bland sitcoms premiering on the major networks this fall.... If the pilot is any indication, this show is set to be the best this season (with the possible exception of Felicity... more on that later). It combines comedy with a bit of drama. Although the laugh tracks detached a bit from the dramatic flair of the serious scenes, there was still a good deal of poignancy in them. I hope the show continues where it left off, it at least deserves a look for one episode. If you like it.... tell your friends! This show needs a bit of word of mouth support. This show may be looking at the axe soon, as it lost a large portion of its lead-in audience. So, if you like it, write in! Tell them what you think about the show. Your votes do count.

Ally McBeal (1997–2002)
A good show
28 September 1998
I must say first of all that I am a high school aged male that has not dated his entire life and I consistently view this show even though it is considered a "womans show". With that out of the way, I must say that this is a very praiseworthy show, and every week I find it enjoyable. I recommend it to anyone, male or female. The 3 males in the series seem to be amalgams of a significant portion of the male populace, and each is funny in his own way. Peter MacNichol is always amusing as "Biscuit," always stammering his way through his job. George Gerwin is equally amusing as Fish, the co-partner (?) of the firm along with Biscuit. Gil Bellows is quite good as Billy, Ally McBeal's former love, who is now married. The women are very good too, although I cannot offer any insights into them because I can never understand women. Calista Flockhart (sp?) is wonderful as Ally, and she seems to always be the one that gets me to laugh. And, for those of you who haven't seen it in a while, a new girl has arrived, Nell(e?). I recommend this to both men and women. Men -- If the Monday Night Football game isnt that good, tune in to Ally one night... you may be surprised, as it blends comedy and drama equally well, having excellent moments of both in each episode. Women -- TUNE THIS IN!!! This will probably make more sense to you than it will the men, and I can almost guarantee you it will be a worthwhile experience. This quality of show doesn't come along very often, savor it while it lasts!!!!
