As far as low-budget cinema is concerned, it doesn't get much better than the efforts of director Mark Baranowski ... what bfan83 doesn't realize is: he's never had a career reviewing films, and he's probably used to worthless grade Z flicks and haphazard screenwriting. And I agree ... if you just take a look at what is currently offered in this genre, you'll see - it's not much - just the usual mundane fare and the overexposed Misty Mundae ... Except for 'Expendable' and a few others among its ilk - Give me a director like Baranowski and a cast like Morgan and Stevens anyday. That's what independent filmmaking is all about ...

Despair
(2001 Video)
Everyone could use a little 'despair...'
15 May 2003
Now I'm not saying that this flick should be up for an Academy Award, but what I am saying that as far a low-budget flicks go, this movie has heart, soul, and even a plot. There are too many direct-to-video attempts, convention films, and low-budget choices nowadays, but I can honestly say that this film does what numerous others I have seen lately, haven't: it really tries. It tries to deliver, it tries to stand apart, and in many ways it does. It's morbid and hot, eerie and poignant. And in essence: Ryli Morgan is one impressive woman, in more ways than one.
Cherry Hill High
(1977)
This is one of the worst films ever made!
22 October 2002
It's so damn bad, I know this is a film that couldn't be made today. "Cherry Hill High" makes "Plan Nine From Outer Space" look like a major cinematic achievement! I wish there was something positive to report about this movie, but I can't think of one. Zero stars.
A Cheesy Horror Flick Masterpiece
19 March 1999
David DeCoteau has somehow managed to come up with a winner here. An outstanding cast most probably has something to do with it, i.e. Lead singer/songwriter of Washington band The Previous, Andras Jones, The B-Queens, Bauer, Quigley, and Stevens, and a slew of others. This was also one of the best performances by the late Robin Rochelle Stille. Definitely worth checking out!
Blown Away
(1992 TV Movie)
Haunting vision of young lust gone awry.
18 August 1998
Quite a bit more interesting than the average b-movie teen lust flick, "Blown Away" captures viewers with naked vixen Nicole Eggert, and the hapless Corey duo, Haim and Feldman. Despite the quite overused mexican stand-off ending and meandering plot, this movie does have a bit of style: dialogue, wardrobe, its young cast, and last but not least, the ever-creepy Jean LeClerc, as Eggert's "overprotective" father.
