Kiss Me Kate (1953)

Worth it to see Bob Fosse's breakthrough dancing

Bob Fosse's dance days were as stellar as his later choreographer career, and his energetic, sexy moves can be seen in the dance numbers here, "Tom, Dick, or Harry" (love those jumps) and especially "From This Moment On," in which he choreographed a 2-minute dance (dance partner: Carol Haney) that showed off his creative skills so well, he was picked up as a choreographer for a Broadway show based on this dance sequence. It's still a gem. Otherwise, fast forward through the whole movie!The plot is boring and Ann Miller seems to barely be keeping up in the dance numbers. Also, the costuming is pretty bad, even for pseudo-Shakespeare period clothes.

Assumes the viewer is intelligent; 'spelling out' the plot is minimal, forcing you to draw your own conclusions. Three viewings and I still want to see it again...really nice use of shifting time sequences

A romance of fate

Are you going where you think you're going? Are you really who you think you are? This quiet little film explores the lives of a man and a woman who are gently, but insistently, forced together by fate, or karma, or destiny(or whatever). Their romance was set into motion before they were even born, and although they try to avoid each other, plans are altered, "coincidences" happen, and mysteries unravel. Very romantic and wistful!
