Deewaar: Let's Bring Our Heroes Home (2004)
It's a nice entertaining movie.
Amitabh appearing in his old super-hit namesake as Major Ranvir Kaul who is held as a undeclared prisoner of War between India and Pakistan for over 30 odd years with many others. The start of the movie is gripping showing one of the nth attempts made to escape and the will to survive persecution.
One attempts by a their mate is partly successful and in conveying the message to Indians. But it is in vain as the Government & Army cannot do anything. The son of Kaul, Akshaye Khanna, takes it upon himself to go to Pakistan and get his father back. Here's the silly part of the ease in how he enters Pakistan and goes about doing the necessary.
As a reprimand for the escape attempt the prisoners are moved to a 'high security' prison where they mingle with other similar captives, led by Raj Zutshi. Also there is Sunjay Dutt a goon caught on the border. He somehow manages to escape and in short teams up with Khanna for the escape where he lands up back in the jail (!!).
The title 'Let's bring our hero's home' is kind of misnomer as this is no rescue attempt (like Behind Enemy Lines, Saving Private Ryan, etc.). Couple of scenes by Kay Kay (a good playback singer playing a Pakistani jail officer) and Akhilendra Mishra are impressive. The heroine is a waste. A couple of songs here and there. Though the escape planning, akshaye in Pakistan, and some of them are lame (compared to good Hollywood thrillers) it is a good entertainment package.
Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hain (2000)
Rent it if you like Sonali
'Sonali Bendre' were the 2 words that coerced me to rent this movie, which normally I wouldn't have (Govinda factor) and Oh boy!, Do I get a decent portion of it :) .
The movie starts with Govinda's standard antics in a stereotypical Bollywood village. He goes on dancing and prancing around with Sonali (Kewl!). The hell breaks out when Sonali's folks go to Govinda's folks with her matrimonial. It is rejected and 'fatal illness' story (so funny) is narrated, which is miraculously cured at that moment. So Pa (Shakti) comes to take him 'home' (I never understood why the Ma did not come). The foster mom plays a drama so that Govinda goes with Pa, and he takes his Deaf and Dumb friend, ironically named 'Sannata'.
The part 2 starts, Govinda tries to acclimatize himself with the Bollywood stereotypical urban modern family which has it's own problems. In the process of solving the problems, Lo behold Rinki Khanna pops up, (where personally I think, the Kapadia lineage gets less attractive by the decent) and the romantic triangle is complete. For the rest see the movie.
Tolerable photography and storyline. Some songs are good, especially with Bendre babe, as well as well picturized. The 'Prem Che' song is pretty catchy.
Have Fun!
Tezaab (1988)
Teezab - means Acid
Teezab - means Acid
Story of how an ideal college school student's life turns towards acid path of crime.
This is the movie which ripened Madhuri's performance, especially with the popular number Ek, Do, Teen, and the rest is history.
The story starts with that song followed by her kidnapping, by Kiran Kumar's extraordinary portrayal of Lotiya Pathan. So Anil Kapoor, who is banned from the city limits, is informed and he is coaxed by his friends to go and rescue her.
And so we go in the past of how Anil & Madhuri fell in love in their school days. How their college life is progressing and what makes the hell break loose on them.
The other numbers in the movie So Gaya Yeh Jahen ., and Kahe Do Ke Tum Ho Meri Varna . are good.
Chunkey Pandey, playing Anil's sidekick and Anupam Kher playing Madhuri's father also bring out and outstanding performance.
Again being a N. Chandra movie, it is pretty violent at times. Highly recommended for very less nonsense and sticking to the story plot.
