This episode really took me by surprise. I came into this show expecting to see Dave flex his comedy/acting/writing chops as a vehicle to get himself further into the comedy scene. But he showed with this episode that he's not only hilarious, but has the ability to deal with serious issues. I won't spoil but it was so well done that this is the first time I've written a review on this site. I was floored by this episode. And the actor that plays GaTa absolutely crushed it, almost moved me to tears in front of my friends I was watching with. So relentlessly good.

I've been really enjoying this show, it's been a real positive surprise but this time I was floored, Dave threw a curveball and got deep into serious problems, GaTa was brilliant. It felt so real, I suffer some of the same issues and this really hit home for me.
I rarely leave reviews here but I just had to do it for this episode. Please keep up the great series

GaTa acting is A1

Never thought of GaTa as the best actor but he showed some real chops in this one. The tears seemed legit and it was a powerful subject that I thought was handled well and as I would expect in real life, in this episode.
GaTa is fantastic

This episode was completely unexpected, to be frank; but in all the best ways- GaTa's acting was incredible, and the storyline truly made you feel for the character and understand his struggles. I love the way that it de-stigmatized the idea of mental health in men, and in this episode particularly black men. I was NOT expecting to be so moved by a show about Lil Dicky, keep it up.

I've been enjoying this show on FXX. This episode "Hype Man" was the best so far. The stigma of mental illness in men, particularly black men needs to evolve and I think this helped contribute to that change. I got emotional. It was a beautiful episode.
Amazing.

This is the best episode yet, hands down. Actually, I believe just about every episode has been better than the last. Things get weird at times (really weird lol), but it's entertaining and it doesn't take away from the deeper matter of the show.
Beautiful episode

This Episode Made Me Go Back To The Pilot

I really enjoyed the ending. I actually went back to episode 1. Fun Fact, at the very end when Dave walking in and throws out the 🐟 it is the same exact shots as the beginning of The Gander'. I really enjoyed rewatching the first episode after this and seeing GaTa's motivations. This show is a step above in some aspects. At the beginning I had a problem with it being a Jewish version of Atlanta. But it's truly growing into its own. I'll definitely watch the rest of the season.
This is an important feels trip

It's amazing to find this kind of mental illness representation in the middle of a very funny comedy show. A black man dealing with mental illness in a community that is not supportive, opening up and finding his family amongst this group is a wonderful moment in TV history. Great acting from everyone involved.
So Much Heart Between the Humor...

Seriously, this show has been nothing short of incredible in general, and this episode was so emotionally charged, I'm not ashamed to admit I was shedding more tears than GaTa by the end of the episode (season 2 finale had GaTa tugging at my heart strings and tearing up again!). He's just such a real and likable dude from the moment he shows up...
The writing on this show is consistently hilarious and heartfelt, and I can't think of any other comedy show that has done this consistently. There's always the couple moments where good sitcoms might get real and emotional during their run.
DAVE somehow does this every episode. I laughed through season 1 week after week when it aired. Then I rewatched it last week back to back all night and it was a totally different experience...like, the first time I was too busy laughing to catch all the emotion and heart.
Like others, I'm not here to spoil anything - just to give praise to GaTa for doing this episode. It may have been acting, but stems from a lot of truth about his past and himself. This was GaTa telling his story, and if you didn't already have love for GaTa, you will...
Dave asked him if they could write this episode and actually reveal some extremely personal, serious, and emotional stuff about himself that wasn't info he shared with many...and it sounds like he was understandably hesitant - it was truly a brave move. I've watched and read interviews about him lately and while he's phenomenal on the show...he's playing himself and doing it well. He seems just as witty, hilarious, and real in his life...
I've already rewatched both seasons and I will likely watch them again soon. I can't wait for more of GaTa and more of everyone else....just more of this show ASAP!

One of the best episodes for anything I've ever seen, it's great seeing any man representing mental health issues and addressing it via the medium of some fantastic and intensely real acting!
Absolutely loved it Gata a legit actor!
