Good story, characters and effects.
guilhermefelixsilva7 July 2019
The story is very good. The movie time may have been exaggerated, it slows the movie down, but perhaps it was the writer's and the director's intention to create empathy with the characters. The special effects are excellent. I think they could have explored even more the feature by the way, not focusing so much on the end. Important to warn that it is far from being considered a horror movie. It's just a romance... a good one.

A very enjoyable movie about a macabre folklore tale...
paul_haakonsen19 August 2019
Alright, now "Krasue: Inhuman Kiss" turned out to be one of the bigger Asian surprises of 2019 so far. I didn't really know much about the movie, except it was a Thai horror movie, when I sat down to watch it. But my fascination with horror and Asian cinema was, of course, more than sufficient to make me have an interest in this movie from writer Chookiat Sakveerakul and writer/director Sitisiri Mongkolsiri.

The storyline in "Krasue: Inhuman Kiss" was really interesting, and it was so enjoyable to watch a movie that incorporated the South-Eastern Asia of the Krasue (as it is known in Thailand), Ahp in Cambodia and Kasu in Laos. I've always found this folklore of the disembodied floating head to be fascinating and interesting. And it was brought to a glorious and entertaining manner on the screen in 2019.

"Krasue: Inhuman Kiss" incorporates both horror, drama and lovestory elements in a very nicely mix, which is portrayed so well on the screen by the actors and actresses.

And the special effects in the movie. Well for a horror movie such as this, then having believable special effects and CGI is a must. Luckily the CGI and special effects team working on "Krasue: Inhuman Kiss" really knew their craft. It was pure joy to watch the special effects in the movie, and they brought the Krasue to life on the screen quite nicely.

This is not your typical Asian horror movie, so don't expect any woman in white dresses with black hair covering their faces. Instead, prepare yourself for an interesting and macabre folklore tale brought to life on the screen.

I am rating "Krasue: Inhuman Kiss" a solid seven out of ten stars, because this was really a nice movie in every aspect. Even if you are not a fan of Thai or Asian movies, but have an interest in horror, then you should take the time and effort to sit down and watch "Krasue: Inhuman Kiss" if you are presented with a chance to do so.

Cursed
kosmasp15 October 2021
Friends - what would you do without them? Probably not go to haunted places and having issues because of that. Having said that, we wouldn't have a movie if someone would not be doing something "wrong". Let's keep it real, in normal world we wouldn't have the issue of something being after us - or changing us or trying to kill us.

At least not the world (universe) I live in, maybe you have different experiences. Kidding aside, the movie is overall decent, without too many highlights. Scares are predictable, CGI is average at best, though it didn't bother me and there is enough blood and scary make up to keep some folks up at night I reckon ... seen worse, seen better horror movies.

Very slow love story about a girl
safsurfer20 July 2019
Very long slow love story without the romance, but sometimes actions speak louder than words....and gratuitous sex. This was a movie about a cursed girl and the the two boys that loved her and the lengths they went through to love her. This isn't a great movie but it's watchable and has good special effects, a good story, half a twist, good ensemble of characters, location was realistic for the content and direction and production made this romantic, semi-horror, mystery, drama something worth the watch....but it could also put you to sleep if not into that sort of thing.

Enjoyable Netflix Find
swooshpimp15 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Not generally my genre of movie but a pleasant watch with a good female lead. I have to give credit to the acting for really bringing this movie together. The lead female carries her role very well and brought a depth to the character that I didnt think would make much a difference in this movie. The twisted tale of being in love with a demon is different for me but somehow played well with the presentation. The twist comes from the love triangle and the demise of each but I did find myslef rooting for then a little though knowing a more twisted fate would take place.

Being available on Netflix makes this even more of a watch.

It IS sad
jfgibson7323 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The biggest obstacle this movie has against it is how slow it is. It doesn't let you know what kind of movie it is right away, and only gives out hints a little at a time. I wish I could say the eventual payoff makes it worth the wait, but I think a lot of people will have a problem with the ending. The movie follows a girl, Sai, who is learning to be a nurse in her tiny village. She's involved in a love triangle, while the community is plagued by some kind of supernatural presence. We eventually find out that Sai was infected with a curse and has been turning into the monster that's been killing animals every night. The movie does a good job making you care about Sai, but somewhere in the third act, my allegiance shifted. Sai was becoming responsible for other people's deaths and caused much suffering. At that point, it seemed selfish for her not to admit what was happening, but she continued to keep her secret. Her inevitable ending still feels unfair, and by the end, the scenes are getting as drawn out and melodramatic as the ending to Return of the King. I was never NOT enjoying this movie, but I was really wanting it to pick up the pace.

Thai-light
dannashaw3 February 2024
The beginning of the film started off intriguing, the mythology behind it is incredibly interesting. However, the progression of the film was poor. Despite being beautifully filmed - this film is more a comedy than a horror.

My expectations were so high, but I find myself absolutely flabbergasted. The scene in which Tad scrambled away left my friends and I in tears (of laughter). I'm just genuinely confused about the 10/10 ratings. Some of the scenes make your skin-crawl in an incredible way however others make you urinate from laughter. The mythology made me curious to research more... what a beautiful concept with the most BIZARRE execution...

In conclusion, team Jerd or team Noi?

What a surprise!
C_Jags10 July 2019
I went into this movie completely without expectations - I hadn't even heard of it until I saw it on Netflix and thought "what the heck, I'll give it a spin." I don't use this word to describe horror movies much, but what a beautiful horror movie! I don't mind saying I teared up at the end. Bittersweet and wonderfully made.

It's a Thai movie, using the krasue from Thai mythology. It's essentially a woman whose head comes off at night to hunt, dragging her entrails behind. Now if that doesn't sound "beautiful", believe me, this movie will have you firmly hoping against hope for the strange, almost ethereal krasue.

I loved everything about this movie, from the haunting soundtrack to the great cinematography to our poor monstrous heroine.

Slow-burning but patient audiences will find it really pays off.

Genre melting pot
This movie was quite the melting pot. We got horror, thriller, drama, romance, folk lore, action and even a light sense of sci-fi. It ended up being successful on multiple fronts, proved itself to be something of quality and kept you engaged throughout.

Where it lacked slightly was the pacing. The chain of events plot wise was solid, but it just seemed to drag a bit with its two hour run time. I noticed throughout that there were a lot of shots where I thought "man, this feels 5-10 seconds too long". I don't know if that is a cultural thing in Indonesia that maybe we are not used to here in the states or if it was a stylistic choice. Regardless, I think it would have been more successful with some of the fluff cut out and generally being more concise.

Also, personally as a horror fan, I wish they had leaned into the spook a little more because the potential was most certainly there. Don't get me wrong, there are most certainly horror elements, I just wish it was more of the focus. I felt like they missed an opportunity with the "monsters" appearance, giving her an almost alien/tentacle/sci-fi feel, rather than representing actual entrails.

These few things aside, this was truly a fun and intriguing story. The quality of the picture and shots were high and the acting seemed solid from an English speakers point of view. It truly felt different, original and an amalgamation of so many different things that it is bound to appease an array of viewers. All in all it was a positive, entertaining experience. Would recommend.

Middling love story, dressed up as horror, with ridiculously cheap-looking computer effects
mohaniyer-6903216 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So what they have done here is taken a rural ghost legend and tried to weave a boring love triangle around it and thrown in a bunch of horrible computer graphics.

Now since the focus of the film is the love triangle, the ghost legend has to be twisted somehow to accommodate it. So that involves taking large liberties with the plot and leaving gaping holes, hoping that somehow the audience won't notice.

Ideally it should have been the other way round. Take the original ghost legend and write the love story to fit the legend. But who cares, especially when you feel you can take your audience for granted, right?

The first and largest plot hole is that the main female character inherits the curse as a child; but it takes effect only when she becomes an adult. Does that mean that the curse lies dormant in children? Not at all, because another child is shown being hit by the curse and getting affected instantly.

Countless such inanities pepper this sub-standard movie, leading to several eye-roll moments for the viewer. Beyond a certain point, suspension of belief becomes impossible; especially when the movie veers towards cringe-worthy and overly convenient plot devices.

At the beginning of the film, we are told that if a man is infected with the curse (by shallowing the saliva of an infected female), he will die an extremely painful death. Yet the male character in the love triangle exchanges several wet kisses with the cursed female lead; and except for falling to the ground and groaning in pain a couple of times, he is absolutely hale and healthy. How's that for plot absurdity?

Then at one point, the group of demon-hunters have surrounded the house of the female lead and are waiting for her to transform into a demon so that they can kill it/her. But somehow she sneaks out of the house with her boyfriend quite easily and goes off to a haunted house in the forest, which somehow has a garden full of magical plants. And next you know, the ghost-hunters are there too. How they got there is not explained, nor is it explained as to why the monk didn't give those magical plants to his own wife (to stop her transformation in the past).

The way the characters are written also leaves a lot to be desired. The female lead's boyfriend is a selfish and cowardly character; and the guy who she rejects (the third part of the love triangle) is a far better and more courageous human being.

Less said about the acting, the better.

The coup de grace of the whole affair is the climax, where we are subjected to half an hour of the most horrible and cheaply done VFX creatures and a surfeit of bad acting. The main demon, when we get to see her properly at the end, looks so ridiculous that I burst out laughing.

I would give negative points to this movie, if I could.

A unique masterpiece about the legend of krasue from Tailand! This film had everything! Modesty, romance, emotion, fiction! A MUST seen!
Mivas_Greece17 October 2021
Fantasy / romantic / dramatic film from Thailand. An excellent sample of Asian cinema on the theme of the legend of Krasue. So a girl has the curse of Krasue, where at night the head detaches from the body and leaves to hunt. The girl once she realizes that she has this curse, she does everything she can to hide from the hunters of Krasue. But two of her childhood friends are still by her side and both do their best to help her, each in his own way. A really exceptional movie and excellent direction with great melodies, and a special script around this legend. Perfectly crafted film that has it all, imagination, emotion, romance, modesty, family, childhood friendships, suspense, monsters and a very touching and dramatic ending. In total, a masterpiece once again from Asian cinema that is definitely worth seeing!

Twilight Vibes?
dj_maz9926 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
One girl, two lovers. All are best friends but boys fighting for the girl? The boy who is friend-zoned becomes a werewolf type creature? Sounds familiar?

Well these maybe uncanny resemblance I felt while watching but the folklore exists in Thai culture long before Twilight.

Dont let this make you think that its a bad movie, its very entertaining for horror/romance lovers. The effects are top-notch and the character development was great. The twists were good enough and the stunner at the end made it bittersweet.

The lighting and sound effects demostrated the production quality.

Definitely a good watch with your partner!

Not ur typical horror movie

If you're fascinated by mythology, foreign folklore & horror movies, you'll like this movie. The Krasue is a folkloric creature popular in Southeast Asia. This movie gives us "foreign audiences" a chance to know her.

A slow but beautiful horror-romance film
seige-hound6 November 2022
Inhuman Kiss, or Sang Krasue, is a horror-romance film set in Thailand during the 1940's. While the second World War Japanese Invasion of Bangkok rages, another war rages in a rural Thai village, when a young woman starts waking up with blood on her bedsheets. At first she thinks it's her period, but as the days pass, the amount of blood grows larger and larger, until she realises that something is very wrong, and that she is possessed by a spirit.

The Krasue, for those who don't know, is the Thai name for a spirit in South East Asian folklore that takes the form of a woman's floating head with its entrails hanging from the neck. Such a horrifying concept must make for a gorey movie, right?

You would be wrong for the most part. While there have been several movies about the Krasue in the past, this one is slow, romantic and dramatic. It tells the story of childhood friends who fall in love after a long time apart, and how the good natured man will do anything to protect the woman that he loves.

It is derivative at parts, sappy at others. Like a lot of Thai cinema, it is very melodramatic both in the pacing and the music. There are certain filmmaking sensibilities that I'm not quite used to as a Western viewer, but I can appreciate the film for what it does right in my eyes.

The film is very well shot. The lighting especially is fantastic. In this film the Krasue emits a red light, and the way that the special effects blend with the practical lighting was incredible. One of the best looking films I've seen this year for sure.

Overall it is definitely worth watching. It is a bit slow at parts, and the climax is quite the tonal shift for sure, but I think overall it does a good job at what it set out to do.

Solid and highly emotional genre effort
kannibalcorpsegrinder12 January 2020
Living in a remote Thai village, a woman who fears she may actually be the vicious creature responsible for the deadly attacks on local animals tries to hide her cursed condition from her friends who have taken up the hunt to stop it, eventually putting them both in dangerous situations.

There was quite a lot to like within the film. Part of the positives here comes from the decision to focus on a wholly undervalued aspect of the creatures' legend by incorporating the cursed lineage origin story for the creature rather than the black magic route. That so few are aware that the true nature of the creature can be spread in that manner makes the storyline feel fresh and unique, especially with the build-up here to get the revelation about her real history. This is told in vivid dreams and flashbacks that contain the agony of being such a fearsome creature yet powerless to do anything about it as she slowly comes to be aware of her situation. That all makes the ensuing love triangle between her and the two guys feel impactful as the reassuring nature they provide rekindling the romance helps to ease her mind and forget the situation as they both truly care for her best interests once the secret is finally revealed. The romantic angle that emerges from that storyline setup is heartfelt and emotional, adding plenty of deep resonance to the horror that arises later on. On top of that, the film works incredibly well with the suspenseful stalking out in the local forest. From the opening game of hide-and-seek inside the abandoned building in the middle of the forest to the Krasue hunts the villagers partake in that are illuminated only by torches, the atmosphere is incredibly impressive and chilling and providing the early reasoning for the paranoia behind the villagers' increasingly desperate need to find the creature responsible when added alongside the mounting animal corpses. The actual attack scenes themselves, with the actual separation of the head from the body being shown and following the floating head flying through the village and surrounding jungle with the red eyes glowing brightly against the darkened backdrop are especially eerie and chilling. As well, the encounter with the villagers looking to find the creature in the little girl showcases the fine mix of practical and CGI effects for the creature and adds more to like about this one. The biggest determining factor in the film will undoubtedly be the central romance. The idea of being able to love such a hideous, bloodsucking creature capable of dealing out the violence and terror on the villagers comes through rather strongly here, what with him shown feeding it dead birds and animals to keep her from attacking others or standing by each other's side despite the accusations from the other villagers to put her to death. Taking the finale into account as well, with the decision to stand up to the monstrous creature before him despite still being a simple human and then going away together to save each other from the villagers adds even more to the romantic sideplot throughout the film. Even looking at the race to cure her with the local medicine adds to the emotional impact of their relationship, bringing about an issue that might not be welcome for some who prefer more of a horror-based storyline. The sappiness from these scenes might turn viewers off as well as be seen as the reason why the film's as long as it is, especially with the constant slow-motion that drags these out to supposedly hammer home the weight behind the action. However, that is the only true flaw to be had with the film.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence and Language.

Unexpectedly Great

Good story, and lead actress is worthy of the role. Best thing about the film to me was the score. I found myself noticing the music over and over again. I don't know who's responsible, but the score deserves some accolades in my opinion.

Krasue: Inhuman Kiss is a VERY VERY Good Movie!!
JJett13131311 August 2019
I watched the 2019 Thai horror movie KRASUE: INHUMAN KISS last night and it was excellent! the "krasue" creature fx are fantastic and VERY Lovecraftian. the acting from the 3 young leads (2 of whom have never been in a movie before!) was incredible and the story was wonderful and very moving (i admit i cried and/or teared up at several points in the movie). the cinematography and music soundtrack beautiful as well.

if you're looking for a really good/great body horror/creature feature then you should watch KRASUE!

A good surprise
vitorocampos28 November 2020
When I saw the movie call I liked the synopsis but I rolled it up a lot to see it, I think because it is Thai and the types of film I'm used to saw are quite opposite to the style. I didn't have much faith but after a few minutes I was immersed in the story and mainly in the effects and photography. If I had to point out a single negative point in my view, it would be the slow development of the novel and the reaction time of some characters.Highly recommend.

A village, a forest near it, a spirit. These three elements made it a nice horror movie. If you're a fan of horror movies with weird faces and sudden loud sounds then it's not for you. All the characters in this movie had their reason to what they did. Everyone acted just perfectly.
