Random
Alternate Histories is a funny concept that turns out to be not as clever as it thinks it is. All the scenarios felt more random than witty, and all feel like missed opportunities to make some wicked historical/political jokes. Yet it's not bad. It'd a nice addition to LD&R, mixing up the pace and tone to the series.

Warning: Spoilers
Yeah this was just rubbish. It was a decent concept but it was really horribly executed. The animation is probably by far the worst in the series, and the episode tried and horrifically failed at being remotely funny, which isn't great when the entire episode is trying really hard to be funny. By about the third scenario I'd already had enough and it became a real slog to the finish. It's a shame because the concept could be really well done with at least a semi-serious take and actual good animation. Instead, this was just generic in the worst way possible. By far the worst episode. Also, surely the more intriguing scenario would be if Hitler lived, not died earlier? Whatever

Not the best -- bad to end with
Lucid_Images19 March 2019
Hitler should be mocked. Especially in a day and age when white supremacy is on the rise and people feel compelled to be insulted whenever they see the little man be mocked.

This was a bad episode to end with and not really that funny.

This and the other "funny" ones were not as good as the serious shorts.

Let's Kill Hitler!

The animation is more like a childs animation. Although, it is simple and clear identified. Alternatives are not interesting also silly. But funny anyway. Everybody thinks in sometime if Hitler was not survive or not even born.

Light entertainment, but nothing more.
Pjtaylor-96-1380444 January 2020
'Alternate Histories (2019)' doesn't quite capitalise on its core concept. Still, it's rather entertaining and is occasionally chucklesome. Its simple, friendly animation contrasts well with its harsh, adult humour - a juxtaposition which accounts for the majority of its comedy. It gets in, does what it needs to and gets out again. The result isn't exactly memorable. It's a bit of light entertainment, subversive and stylish, but nothing more. 6/10

Do The Reich Thing.
southdavid18 April 2019
I've decided to review each of the short films that make up this series individually.

This short acts like a demonstration for an Alternate History machine and demonstrates what would happen to major world events had something different happened, in this case, the earlier death of Adolph Hitler.

Quite enjoyed this one, it has quite a basic animation style but it works well with the fun little theories that the episodes posits. As one or two other have suggested in their reviews, it might have been more fun to see different alternate history each time, rather than just a number of variations on the same theme. There was a lot of wasted potential with this one, but its fine for what it is.

Had Potential
zdflanders4 April 2019
Started out intriguing as a skit for an episode but they should've done more with the idea. If they had pointed out many alternate histories it would've been more interesting. The kill Hitler joke got old quick. Also the animation was... not great.

Hitler, really?
AleksandrBelenko13 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Hitler is the first thing that comes to mind, when you think abut killing a future dictator before he becomes one. And well, Doctor Who already did episode on that. I enjoyed the episode, it became random and absurd pretty fast. But nothing special anyway. P.S. "Vladimimir Putin, first real man on the Moon", really? Talking about killing dictators before they become ones... Better make an episode exploring his possible death before he gains power and kills people in Geaorgia, Ukraine and Syria, and well, in Russia itself.

It could have been good. It wasn't.
rafaeloa25 March 2019
At first, it seemed like a very good idea, but the performance on it is very, very bad. Alternative Stories is an episode that could have been very interesting, but, as the producers tried to make it "funny", they ruined the whole idea and it became a very bad episode, the worst one of the series.

Brilliant

This is actually my second favourite episode and I don't understand all the negative reviews. It was brilliant and absurd and I laughed out loud. This is the only episode where I need the whole series. Loved it. So underrated.

Because endless (or rather a handful) of alternate options don't necessarily turn out better

Neither interesting nor funny
Shagrat42030 April 2019
Alternate Histories is by far the worst episode of Love, Death & Robots. The premise is fine but they just decided to mock Hitler in a extremely childish way that's more irritating than funny, and the consequences of his deaths are not funny or witty, just random.

It felt like I was watching one of those low budget Youtube animations made for children.

This episode/short have cool concept that could be quite entertaining as a show, I can already imagine 15 seasons out of this...nonetheless this episode don't do the concept its justice. I want to see Nazis adopting Islam and stuff, this just make me hungry for more.

Great fun!

Very funny and triggers all the history buffs. It's not supposed to be a history lesson but a pure comedy, so don't expect an analysis of geopolitics and stuff like that here. Subverts my expectations.

Love it or hate it?
exuberantloquacity8 October 2019
I didn't know whether to love or hate this. The fifth scenario was pretty clever. There's some consistency between the scenes so they've thought about causality. On the other hand, it seems pretty silly and not that well-thought-out. They could have taken the idea further and been more creative. I'm definitely ambivalent about this episode. The plot was fine. But perhaps they could have explored the premise better.

Terrible. Awful. Hideous.
jvmachado-8834114 May 2022
This one tries too hard to be funny, and fails so miserably. Absolutely cringeworthy. At least, there's one good point in all this mess: it's a short episode,so our suffering won't linger that much.

Cracked Me Up!
dalefl28 December 2019
The wide margin of ratings for this one is really interesting. It just illustrates the difference in tastes of us all when it comes to humor.

I thought it was great. Even my wife was laughing and she doesn't get into history at all and has limits when it comes to humor. I really loved that blue screen at the end. That was funny.

Supremely immature humor. Assumes that having a "bad person" die on repeat is inherently funny and even enjoyable. Cause of death doesn't matter - the sillier, the better. Provides no historical insight, yet dubs itself as "Alternate Histories". A threat to entertainment and morality; are we content with this? Borderline parody on parodies.

Hilarious.
mhorg201820 March 2019
Who wouldn't want to see Hitler whacked in difference ways, each of them funnier than the last. Really well thought and one of the best shorts of this entire show. The last line with Lincoln is hysterical. I hope if this gets a second season, they do a sequel to this one.

Unbearably unfunny
michaelyeung-5779222 March 2019
Premise is not clever. Humor is entirely focused around 'lol so random', resulting in an episode less funny than an episode of The Big Bang Theory.

Let's kill Hitler
paultapner12 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Another very short one - just under eight minutes - and another based on a story by John Scalzi, who wrote the day the yogurt took over which was episode six.

This one is presented as being the presentation of a computer app, which shows you various bits of alternate history. Six different ways Hitler could be killed in 1910. And what would have happened as a result of each.

The animation is cartoonish, and the music and the vocals are comical, and this works really well.

For the first two deaths, this is fun and clever. But what comes next is a bit silly at times to put it mildly. Intentionally so, and it is fun as a result. But it does go down a different path to what you would have been expecting from the first two. If you like alternate histories. Like me. More of that and this would have been a nine. But if you like fun, then you'll probably want to give it a nine.

The end moment offers possibilities, too. Good stuff.
