Synopsis

  • The episode opens on heavy breathing as someone approaches a woman brushing her hair at her vanity.

14-year-old Jake Wheeler buys a Chucky doll from a neighborhood yard sale to be used in his latest sculpture. Jake's mother has passed away in a car accident, and Jake's father, Luke, generally disapproves of his son's interests.

Jake has dinner with his father, uncle Logan, aunt Bree, and his cousin, Junior. Jake's father begins drinking heavily at dinner. Junior's parents highlight on his recent accomplishments. When Jake makes a remark about Andy Warhol, Junior comments on Jake's sexual orientation. Luke smashes his drink to end the conversation.

Once his relatives leave, Luke goes in to Jake's room with a baseball bat and destroys his sculpture and tells him, "No more dolls, ever". The only doll that is unbroken is Chucky.

Jake brings Chucky to school. Jake is approached by Devon, a student who has a podcast that highlights on local crime. Jake is also approached by Junior, and Junior's girlfriend, Lexy. Jake tells them that he is planning on selling the doll.

Lexy posts a Go Fund Me for Jake in attempts to humiliate him. Jake asks his teacher, Miss Fairchild, to store the Chucky doll for him until he can sell it. Miss Fairchild holds Lexy after class to speak with her, and in an opportune moment Chucky steals Lexy's phone.

Devon sees that Jake is listening to his podcast at lunch and invites him to go to the talent show the following day.

Jake receives a call in regards to the listing for Chucky. The mysterious caller tells him to check Chucky's batteries.

The next morning, Jake's father confronts Jake about finding the Chucky doll in the house. Jake checks Chucky's batteries and sees that he has no batteries installed. He immediately throws the doll in the trash.

Lexy is hosting the talent show, and in a lull scans the crowd with the spotlight. She begins teasing Jake, and a voice tells her to pick on someone her own size. The spotlight focuses in on Chucky in the seat behind him. Chucky whispers in Jake's ear, and Jake goes on stage and performs a "ventriloquist" act. Chucky reads aloud from Lexy's stolen phone to embarrass her and reveals that she is romantically interested in both Junior and another student, Oliver. He also calls out Jake's aunt Bree for having a secret. He makes more crass jokes until he is escorted off stage.

When Jake gets home, he is confronted by his father that his performance got him suspended. The argument boils over when Jake confirms he is gay and Luke hits him and threatens his life.

The power goes out and Luke goes into the basement. As he flips the breakers, Chucky vomits on some exposed wiring and electrocutes Luke.

The police investigate the crime scene, and Jake's uncle, Logan comes to pick him up and takes him to stay at his house.

Once alone, Jake asks Chucky to speak to him. Chucky tells him that some people, like Jake's father, deserve to die.

The episode closes on the woman at her vanity, turning around and exclaiming "Charles" as a child runs up to her.
