Warning: Spoilers
Sooo, after the shock ending I actually rewatched the show knowing that Rob had switched bodies with Adele and seeing if from a different perspective. It made me appreciate it so much more, cause honestly I found it rather boring the first time around until we got into the meat of what had happened after all. I actually enjoyed the astral projection twist, rather than the same old 'jealous lover snaps and starts killing people' trope.

Now, in saying I found it boring the first time around, I do still believe they could have made this a bit shorter of a series or maybe even a 2 hour movie. There was a lot of unnecessary filler.

From what I have read in negative reviews, those who didn't pay attention or didn't notice little hints then let me add in my 2 cents...

Adele (flashbacks)-

Adele is actually a sweet and giving person. She tells Rob that it's ok to trust others. Her trust of him was her downfall.

She shares a secret with Rob, something she's never shared with anyone and teaches him how to astral project. This is the beginning of the end for her.

She had nothing to do with her parents' deaths and was astral projecting when the house caught fire.

She genuinely loves Rob as her best friend but she is completely in love with David, her bf turned fiancé.

She is not an addict.

Her astral soul is pink.

Rob (flashbacks)-

Yes, he's gay, as he says as much right from the first episode.

He's a magnificent cook. He said he learned how to cook in the psych ward, as that was his job there.

Rob has a personality disorder that you can start to see due to the things he says and journals about. He hates his life, himself, and others, and that nobody is to be trusted (not even him, as he states just like everyone else he is only out for himself).

He seemingly loves and idolizes his best friend Adele. But it's not the true love of a friend. More so, similar to Single White Female, he envies everything about her and wants her life. She is everything that he is not, in his own words "she's beautiful and rich". He states over and over how he doesn't want to leave, he wants to stay with her forever. In a nutshell, he's obsessed with her and what he views as a perfect life.

He seems to be protective of her and is wary of her love for David. He is not actually protective, but rather wants her all to himself. He wants her to see David as a bad boyfriend so she doesn't leave the friendship. He said himself that he didn't understand what it was like to love or to be loved and asks her how it feels. He thinks he will be kicked out of her life when she marries David.

Once he meets David and realizes that he is a good person that saved Adele's life and is completely in love with her, he wants this for himself. He is projecting the obsession he had for Adele as a friend onto David as a new love interest. He's never had these feelings before and will do anything to keep it going, as his life has been nothing but empty. He wants to feel something, this is why he is also a heroin addict.

He picked who he wanted to be nice to, who to manipulate, and who to be nasty to.

His astral soul is blue.

Adele/Rob merger-

I think it's unfair to say that Adele didn't have Rob's mannerisms after the merger. Rob had 10 years of life with David to develop his Adele personality. He knew he couldn't act like himself, but rather had to try and take on Adele's persona. But instead of coming across as a sweet and caring Adele, he showed what he really was...a deceptive, selfish, non empathetic manipulator.

You can see this when he takes over Louise's body. He tries to emulate her in every way.

The reason he doesn't give Adam to his father after taking over Louise? He doesn't seem to like Adam, but he stated before that he wanted a family. He is also all about facade and he knows that Louise lived for her son. If he suddenly changes his attitude, this wouldn't sit well with David.

Rob doesn't love David. Again, he is incapable of giving or receiving love. If he ever tired of David, it would be the end of David. Just like it was the end for Adele.

You see him cooking elaborate feasts for David, just as he had before he switched with Adele.

He's still addicted to heroin, Adele was not an addict. He injects himself between the toes to hide track marks from David.

He manipulates David into staying with him by saying if he doesn't he will tell everyone he killed 'Rob'.

He tells Louise that he wanted her to choose him (as Adele) over David, that he wanted her love.

He was molding Louise from the beginning to be like him as Adele, like having her jogging, being a gym rat, and telling her what to eat. He had plans from early on to take over her body.

How could he possibly predict that Louise would come to his rescue at the end? He didn't. But, he had stated before that he knows people. He watched her during his astral projections and the fact that she came to his rescue once, breaking into his house to help, while he was astral projecting. So he assumed her human nature would do it again. But if not, he would die in the fire rather than live his life without the object of his obsession.

As Adele his astral soul is still blue.

David-

No, David had nothing to do with Adele's parents dying. He was a good guy who loved and adored the real Adele.

No, he is not aware that Rob is Adele. The reason he is not nice to her is because the whole relationship (after the merger) was built on blackmail. He was told if he didn't stay he would be blamed for 'Rob's' death. The real Adele had also stated that David would never understand astral projection because he was too analytical. So there is no way David would suspect this.

He had told Louise he didn't know what happened to the girl he had saved from the fire. He says this because there was an obvious switch of personality with the real Adele that he fell in love with to the after merger Adele.

He also told Louise that he had a hard time living with Rob's death on his conscience but that Adele had no issues moving on, even though Rob was her best friend. This really bothered him and also led to his loathing and distrust of her.

Yes, David was nasty to Louise. For one, to throw the viewer off to who's the bad guy. But for two, he felt extremely betrayed by what Louise did (behind his back, befriending his wife who was really Rob). Again, that distrust was there and he had every reason to be angry after all he'd been through.

No, he doesn't see the switch in personality with Louise after the merger because there is no traumatic betrayal leading up to the marriage. With Adele it was obvious to him that something was wrong with her throwing her friend's body into a well and saying she'd blame him if he called the police, then moving on like nothing happened. With Louise he had the relief of Adele writing the note taking blame for everything and then dying. Adele was out of his life, the burden was lifted and he could be free. He sees Louise as his source of happiness.

Louise-

There was a reason Louise becomes so attached to Adele. She said herself that her ex husband cheated and left her for someone else. Not only did she feel extreme guilt now that she was the other woman, but she also said she saw herself in Adele. That she used to be that broken woman being cheated on by her husband.

Why would Louise risk her life to save Adele after everything she had done, especially when she has a child at home? Technically she doesn't risk her "body" per se, but she astral projects to see where Adele is at in the house while she waits for emergency trucks. At that point she had no idea that Adele had OD'd. She goes into her body, maybe hoping to get her up and out of the house. But why? Because even though she called her a "nutter" she still cares for her, she's not a sociopath like Adele/Rob is.

Her astral soul is green.

Warning: Spoilers
Best plot twist I've seen in a long time. I cannot stress enough how important it is to not read any reviews or spoilers before watching this. You might find the pacing a little slow at times (at least I imagine some people would) but personally I liked it. I'll take a slow burn over too quick and messy pacing any day of the week. And just know that either way, the ending will make it all worthy of your time.

Excellent twisty thriller
Horror_Flick_Fanatic20 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I really liked it and I didn't see the twist at the very end coming. It totally surprised me. But going over the whole story in my head, it made sense. The clues were there all along in the beginning of the show. Very well written thriller. Was i the only one who thought Eve Hewson has a passing resemblance to Isabella Rossellini?

Good series but the end doesn't make sense
sedatp28 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It makes no sense at all that in the last episode Louise would be so stupid to a) go to Adele's house although she sincerely hated Adele at that point and David warned her to stay away from her cause she's dangerous, b) that she'd set herself to sleep and soul travel into the burning house cause what was the whole point in it??, c) that they could've swapped bodies although only one of them wanted (with Rob and Adele they both wanted it).

But not only the end is illogical. Also before when Louise would bust off her year-long friend for no meaningful reason just because of a lady (Adele) she knows for a few weeks. Also, Louise is a mother of a, what, 8-year-old boy, she would never never ever get involved so much into such a mess and risk her safety and thus the safety of her boy. Never, no sane mother on earth would do that.

Otherwise, yeah, fun to watch, good acting, hence 6/10.

Note: it's fair to rate this series in the range of 5-8, everything below 5 and above 8 is bogus. It's neither that good nor that bad.

Incredible
I don't get why there are so many bad ratings and reviews on this. I thought this show was so good and the plot twist at the end was mind-blowing. It kept me guessing until the very end and even if you think you can predict what's gonna happen at the end, you can't. And then if you go back and watch it after knowing what happens there are so many clues and details to catch. I loved it and if you enjoy twist endings like I do then I definitely recommend watching. I wish I could watch it again for the first time. It's been at least a month since I finished it and I still can't stop thinking about it. One of the best shows I've seen in a while.

Bit silly

Warning: Spoilers
Began well, liked the characters. But then the whole 'twist' relies on us believing in Astral projecting?? C'mon guys! The fluorescent dream scenes ok, but then after that the floaty smoky squiggly travelling souls. Just silly. I watched it until the thoroughly disappointing ending.

Riveting and Layered, an Interesting Combination
ChromaFilmTV20 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This series encompasses everything I love about mystery thrillers, at least until I was bummed out at the end.

On top of the concepts like lucid dreaming and remote viewing, the series also gives a visual interpretation of unresolved trauma through the main characters. Lou suffers from night terrors, David constantly struggles between keeping a secret and keeping a promise, Rob is an addict and Adele is not who she used to be...wink, wink.

The main storyline seems to start off as something we've seen before, but quickly takes a turn that makes it truly interesting.

This series makes the statement that nothing is truly by coincidence and then uses abstract, but documented concepts to add unexpected twists.

As much as I tried to resist, I couldn't help but to binge-watch. I think anyone that 's into concepts that go a little further than mainstream will love or at least thoroughly enjoy watching this series. I would definitely recommend it.

Good but hated the ending
cenmail22 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Liked the story. Good acting. Suspenseful... but damn, I hated the ending. Maybe I'm a wuss, or maybe it's just cuz I'm a mom, but I really wish it could've had a happy ending-you know, good conquers evil? And why'd they have to screw over poor, innocent Adam. Like, that's a textbook way to ruin a good flick--just have a kid lose his mom at the end. :(

Surely watch this, but pay attention!
TreeFiddy532 March 2021
It has suspense, mystery, supernatural elements, all sorts of twists and turns. This show, that could be categorized as a slow burn, has only 6 episodes. You can tell that there's something wrong, that something doesn't add up, but you can't tell what. And they did a good job of wrapping all that into a package that kept me hooked and engaged. Good acting by everyone involved, decent music to keep the intensity up, very well shot, and they seem to jump back-and-forth in their storytelling which didn't feel choppy at all. When you start figuring things out, you're gonna be like "I did NOT see that coming!" Or at least "Why did I not see this coming!? The clues were RIGHT THERE!" Parts of the show, I thought were super predictable, until they weren't. But i had to wait until the end to find that out. And i wasn't disappointed at all. This show is a quick weekend watch, I'm glad that they decided to keep it to 6 episodes and didn't do 10. I'd recommend the show! Only, don't watch the show while you're doing something else. There will be clues here and there that you'd wish you had picked up as you start putting the puzzle together at the end. If you like shows with accents, you should surely watch this one

Why, oh why, oh why???
larry-butchins23 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It was ticking along nicely until around episode 5 when they started introducing weird astral projection stuff and by the nd of the series I'd lost it. No, no,. no...totally unlikely, implausible, not in the real world. OK, some people may believe in this stuff, and good luck to them. But to make it the denouement of this (up until then) reasonably intriguing story, just doesn't cut it. I would far rather have had Adele hint at this stuff (to enhance her weirdness), but to actually have been tracking her husband and Louise with a security camera, or via Louise's cellphone, or laptop, or even a drone outside her window - all this would have seemed more likely. Did NOT like the way this resolved. Oh dear, oh dear, because it kept us hooked for 4 out of 6 episodes. Good acting by the way, beautiful cast, nice production; what a pity.

Intriguing and watchable
WhoMadeYouGod18 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
...but not mind blowing.

So I did the only decent thing atm and binge watched the whole series on Netflix - the fact that I could happily sit through the full 6 episodes tells me there is enough to keep someone interested. I'm in two minds whether this series would be one I would go out of my way to recommend.. it's more likely to be a 'Yes it's not bad viewing if you are short of something to watch' recommendation.

It's actually a really original plot and I was very much 'Oh!' at the end when the truth is revealed - I feel that it was tied up nicely. The plot isn't really believable, but I don't think it has to be. It's well acted I especially liked Adele - Eve brought a good level of mystery to the character.

Overall I'm glad I watched it, not a bad series.

A shocking plot twist? Yes. Is it logical? No.
badreviewer24 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This show has a great plot twist at the end and I think that is what makes it shine. However, that ending is illogical for me. I understand how Adele and Rob changed their bodies, they both knew what they were doing and they both did it on purpose; but I really don't understand what was Louise's motivation when she left her body while Adele were "comitting" suicide. What can people do in astral travel? They can only watch things, they cannot speak to people or anything, so why would she do that? Trying to find a window to break and enter the house would be MUCH more reasonable but for some reason Louise decides to do the most illogical thing on earth.

But I think there is one more wrong thing about this story and it is worth mentioning. Louise can be stupid enough to think she can save a person in astral travel, but she cannot be stupid enough to get herself into trouble, because she is a MOTHER. Mothers do not risk their lives for the people they know only for the last 1 month. It's not because they scare to die, it is because they scare what their little children would do if they die. Louise might love David and might want to save him, but nothing in this world can be compared with a mother's love for her children, so she would know that she is not a superhero and she is not suitable for risking her life to save other people from their sociopath spouses. But in that case this story would not have this kind of plot twist, so she had to be THAT stupid I guess.

intriguing but disappointing
blanche-24 July 2021
Behind Her Eyes is a decent story - up to a point - and well acted by Simona Brown, Eve Hewson, and Tom Bateman.

I won't rehash the plot. I will say it keeps you guessing, and there are a few twists.

However, at the very end, there is one twist too many.

Also, I think people were misled and upended by what it was they were watching. They were expecting one genre, and it started that way - then it turned into another genre, and the people watching weren't necessarily fans of the second genre.

Behind Her Eyes has very nice production values and good-looking people. The story could have been much stronger, and as far as the "twists," they should have quit while they were ahead.

Same ending as the book
daniel-1428421 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The show was ok I read the book a while back and the characters in the show are a bit more interesting then they are in the book. With that said I did not like the ending in the book at all I was hoping the show would be different but it's not. To me the whole body switch thing is stupid and ruined what would of been a really interesting story. I wouldn't say this is not worth a watch but I would say a lot of people won't like how it ends.

Inside out
kosmasp29 August 2021
The question with this movie: is the whole build up worth what it culminates to? The ending, the twist of sorts .. that you may see coming or not. Now you have to be the judge of that ultimately - I can only give you pointers and tell you my perspective on it. So for the ending to happen as it does, a lot of things have to come together that are almost .. coincidence. Certain things you can't plan ... actually hoping for or planning for something to happen the exact way it does is rather ... let's say tough.

Having said all that, the build up is quite nice and it really brings you closer to everyone. Especially our 3 main characters ... and another one we do not get or suspect from the start. The acting is good, the story is working.

There are a lot of red herrings thrown into the mix and the story seems to revolve around one thing more than ... well something completely different at first. But this mystery and the way it ... evolves is more than fine. I think a lot of the viewers will be able to guess that there is more to the story early on though. Not to mention to figure certain dynamics out.

And then there is this other element to it. You'll either embrace it - or it will completely take you out of it - "non-realistic" and all that. Suspend your disbelief is what I say to that - if you can.

Could've Been so Great
cpdziqckk23 February 2021
The first four episodes were so great! I was constantly guessing what had happened and who did what. Then it got too far fetched and fantastical for me. They should've put this under sci-fi. The ending completely ruined everything the show had built up and made no sense. Wasnt necessarily a waste of time but wasn't something I would ever watch again.

I wish I was told it was a fantasy.
jtrazor20 February 2021
It was fine. Definitely not awful, cool twist at the end and brilliant casting (not that I've read the book to compare, but the acting was strong throughout).

But I just wish I was informed that it was a fantasy before I'd watched most of the series. I was completely taken aback in episode 4 (I think it was) when they just started doing the 'floaty orb' thing, because I thought I was in for a gritty, realistic drama.

I don't know about anyone else, but I was reminded of the film The Green Mile, when a similar thing happened, in that I thought I was in for something tough and real, but then the guy magics a mouse back to life and the whole plot changes (still love the film but it was a shock that wasn't particularly enjoyed).

I'm also not sure the 'mini series' has found its place in terms of pacing just yet - the third episode, literally nothing happens. My partner encourages me that it's just character development, but it doesn't quite rub off on me. Literally nothing that didn't already happen in episode 2 happens in episode 3, which to me is more of an issue with pacing.

Either way - it's certainly not bad, and if you're after something to kill some time, give it a go - maybe you'll be less disappointed, having read this review, that it's not realistic.

I'd also like to just round off that I'm chuffed that it's a British production with a black, female lead that I'd certainly like to see more of in future.

Amazing story, unbelievable ending, keeps you guessing!
jkt200626 February 2021
Saw a series after a long time which kept me guessing until the last episode. It's drama, thriller and towards the end, well you have to watch it! The twist is just unimaginable even until the second last episode and blows you away. The performances by all actors are brilliant. Yes, the number of dream sequences could be somewhat less as they tend to be repetitive but it works and you understand as to why towards the last episode. The story and the finale kept me thinking for hours. Definitely recommended if you are into thrillers!

I sat and watched the ENTIRE series in one day and OH MY DAYS did I laugh when it happened. When it happens then you'll know what I mean and you'll be left asking yourself 'wait... What?!'

My advice is to watch it just for the laughably bad ending.
