It's not physically possible to hold a real-time conversation with astronauts as it is depicted it all over the series. While for the moon it takes at least a few awkward seconds to receive a response (so called round-trip time), it goes up to minutes for a Mars mission.
Wild Horse is in eastern Colorado, over two hours from NORAD, and extremely flat, more like Kansas. There are no mountains visible. The "town" is actually about half a dozen homes and a post office, no businesses at all.
