Pat says that he never knew Rex, the original Hourman, had a son. Courtney tells him that Rex and Wendi weren't killed in a car accident but were murdered by Solomon Grundy, and Dr. Mid-Nite's goggles told her. She explains that she also recruited Beth and Yolanda, and Pat tells Courtney that she's putting the kids in danger and needs to get the goggles and Wildcat's costume back while he talks to Rick to get the hourglass. When Courtney objects, Pat asks if she wants her new friends to end up like Joey. As he goes, Pat says that he thought Courtney respect him more than she's demonstrating.
In the basement, Pat puts the JSA costumes away in the trunk with his other JSA memorabilia. He thumbs through Rex's journal and finds a photo of Rex standing next to his Mustang. Pat looks at it for a moment and then closes the trunk.

At the school cafeteria, Courtney approaches the table Yolanda and Beth are sitting at. She says that they need to talk, and they wonder if Courtney has their first mission for them. Courtney sits down and says that she needs the JSA items back because Pat found out she took them. Yolanda says that it isn't up to Pat because the items weren't his in the first place, and that being Wildcat is the only good thing that has happened to her in a long time. She refuses to give back the suit and walks off, and Beth asks Courtney not to make her say goodbye to Chuck. Beth walks away as well, leaving Courtney alone.
Rick says that nothing Rex wrote is what actually happened, suggests that the writing is good, takes out the hourglass and looks at it, and tells Pat that he'll keep going through the journal. Pat suggests that Rick leave the journal with him, and Rick points out that it belonged to his father and he's keeping it. When Pat tells him to leave the hourglass with him as well because he doesn't think Rick is ready for it, Rick objects. Pat says that Rex knew how addictive the power in the hourglass was, and the limitation of one hour a day was Rex's way of limiting the temptation. Rick asks Pat what Starman used him for when Pat hasn't done anything in years, says that as far as he can tell Pat doesn't anything, and walks out.

It tells Beth that someone is trying to hack into Empire's system, and Beth tells the others that Empire is a communication company. She says that Gambler works for the ISA, and Gambler is wanted for fraud, conspiracy, and murder. Rick and Yolanda figure they can capture Gambler and interrogate him about the ISA. Courtney figures that they should tell Pat, but the others refuse and figure they outnumber Gambler. Rick, Beth, and Yolanda leave, Beth telling Courtney that Gambler has no powers. They figure he's the easiest target, and Courtney says that she's going with the others but they all need to wear costumes to protect their identities.

Chuck confirms that Gambler's signal is still active, and Stargirl asks if they're sure about going in. Hourman activates his hourglass and says that he is, and Wildcat and Dr. Mid-Nite agree. Stargirl tells them to follow her lead, but Hourman clearly isn't impressed and walks past her.

The team finds a dead guard on the floor.
Gambler steps out in the hall and finds his cat, making a noise. The villain goes back into the room in his house.
Huntress and Sportsmaster confront the team, and Chuck identifies them as Icicle's "attack dogs". Stargirl tells her team to lure the two villains out together, but Hourman ignores her and charges at the villains. Sportsmaster attacks Hourman while Huntress launches herself at Wildcat. When Sportsmaster knocks Hourman outside, Gambler tells them over their earbuds that he'll have the satellite codes in five minutes.
The villainous couple split up, and Hourman goes after Sportsmaster while Wildcat goes after Huntress. Stargirl uses her Staff to keep the car from falling long enough to pull Hourman free.
Huntress knocks down Wildcat, then pins her to the wall with bolts from her crossbow bolt. Wildcat pulls free and scales the wall, but Huntress grabs her ankle and pulls her down. Dr. Mid-Nite arrives and Chuck directs her to a fire extinguisher on the wall. As Huntress prepares to shoot Wildcat dead, Dr. Mid-Nite sprays the extinguisher at her, buying her and Wildcat time to escape.
Running outside, Huntress slide-trips Stargirl and then joins her husband. Stargirl renews her attack despite the odds against her, and the two villains knock her down. Gambler tells Huntress and Sportsmaster that he has the codes, and Sportsmaster slams an exploding hockey puck into the Staff. It shoots into the air on its own and the puck explodes, causing it to fall back to the ground. Stargirl catches it and looks at the "stunned" Staff, 'and it recovers.
The other three heroes join Stargirl, and STRIPE flies down. Sportsmaster and Huntress retreat, using a flash-bang grenade disguised as a badminton cock as cover. Courtney and Pat are on a balcony above, watching them, and Courtney talks about how the team didn't follow her plan and nobody listened to her. She realizes that Pat feels the same about her, and he warns her that luck will only get her so far and they need training. Pat says that they don't have any choice but to let them keep the items and the costumes, and Courtney agrees.
