Fionn Whitehead in Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018)

Goofs

Black Mirror: Bandersnatch

Edit

Continuity

There is an inconsistency in Dr Haynes' name. On her office door she is identified as 'Dr. R. Haynes' whereas in a newspaper article shown in one of the alternative endings she is identified as 'Dr. Patricia Haynes'.
In many shots, Craig Parkinson's character, Peter Butler is seen wearing eyeglasses with an anti-reflective coating applied to the lens. Whilst this technology was available, it was not available for consumer use in eyeglasses in 1984.

Factual errors

Both of the programmers are seen to be working exclusively in ZX BASIC. By 1984, very few established software houses used BASIC as a coding language - most worked in Z80 assembler. Colin Ritman's games in particular showed a fluidity and responsiveness that would be very hard to achieve without the use of assembly language.
When Stefan starts to playback the documentary on Jeffries Davies on the Betamax VCR, a little "PLAY" icon can be seen In the top left corner of the TV. The Betamax VCR model shown to be used has no On-screen Display capability.
When Stefan plays a Tangerine Dream album on the turntable, the LP had a single track that takes up the whole album side. "Phaedra", which he purchases earlier and is used elsewhere throughout the movie is indeed an album-side long, but track that starts playing is "The Dream Is Always the Same" from the Risky Business (1983) soundtrack, which is about four minutes long and one of five tracks on that side.

Anachronisms

In Colin Ritman's apartment, in the room that Colin & Stefan take drugs, there is a poster behind Colin's chair that very closely resembles poster art for the movie 'Akira'. Akira was made in 1988, but Bandersnatch is set in 1984, making this poster an anachronism.
The branch of WH Smith shown in the show has prominent travel adverts and a dedicated section for computer games and music. Whilst WH Smith did indeed operate a travel business up until 1991, this would only have been found in the larger branches. The smaller branches would have primarily sold stationery, magazines and books.

Equally, a smaller branch such as the one shown would have had a comparatively small selection of music, mostly current hits or traffic-building big albums. It's unlikely that such a small branch would have stocked niche progressive rock albums from 1974 such as Tangerine Dream's Phaedra.
After pitching the game to the company, the lad and his dad are in the kitchen. The lad fills a cordless kettle and puts it back on its base. Fairly sure the first 'cordless kettle' was not launched until about 1985/86, and the 360 degree rotating base shown must be later than 1984.
