Plot Summary

A heart-warming tale of Tom (Timothy Spall), a pensioner whose wife, Mary (Phyllis Logan), has just died, who travels from mainland Britain's most northerly point, John O'Groats, to his original home town at England's most westerly point, Land's End (NOT its most southerly, as this is Lizard Point, some miles away), using his free bus pass. He carries with him only a small suitcase, travelling the length of the country with it. Along the way, his adventures are recorded by the people he meets and helps, and by the end of his trip he has unwittingly become a social media celebrity. Written by vim

Trivia Nick Lloyd Webber, who composed the orchestral soundtrack for this film, was the son of Andrew Lloyd Webber. See more »
Goofs Tom's claim that he was an underage (15 years old) stretcher bearer in WW2 is most unlikely - but not entirely impossible. Due to changes in the law since WW1 the age of enlistment was raised to 18 in the inter-war years, only being lowered for duty in the Home Guard. This was much more stringently enforced with I.D. checks, however there are well documented cases of British teenagers of the time applying and being accepted for duty, albeit by lying about their ages - the youngest of these was just 14 years and 152 days old when he died. However it is possible he made this story up to dissuade the young man he was telling it to from joining the army in the first place. See more »
Crazy Credits There are examples of social media posts from Tom's journey shown during the closing credits. See more »
