Death Comes Softly Parts 1-3

Julian Jones is the new writer for this Taggart story. I have to say you cannot see the joint.

It is a seamless integration of previous Taggart stories. In short don't bother working out who the culprit might be. It could be anyone.

It certainly is not WPC Jackie Reid who makes her debut. She will stay with the series until it ends.

The great character actor Russell Hunter, plays Fred Scott. A lonely old man who plagues the life of his daughter and son in law. They want to go on holiday and he does not want to go to a home while they are away.

He is found dead in his house. Later Lena Henderson is killed, it turns out that she was blackmailing some locals.

Then a mummified body is found in the attic of the house Lena lived. The owner Sophie McQueen has just moved to an old people's home. Seemingly at the behest of her nephew, a criminal barrister who is acting shifty.

Then there is a spiritual healer calling himself the commander. He had been known to the victims. Taggart hatches a plan to give the commander enough roper to hang himself.

Death Comes Softly has a disturbing ending. In fact a few years later a moral panic was caused by some real life perpetrators of venal crimes.

Taggart also gets into trouble with his superiors as he plans to use an Agent Provocateur. It is also Jardine and not the more cynical Taggart who thinks the unthinkable.
