A mesmerizing sport beyond just kicking a ball
oncolrx4 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I have been a football (futbol, soccer, calcio, etc) fan all my life. Yet, with this documentary I learned or recalled things of the past in many unexpected different ways. The impact of football in the life of people and nations is remarkably well done and poignant. Chapter 1 and 2 grip your heart beyond the greatness of the sport itself, After the Rwanda genocide, grasping to this sport helped the healing of the nation. The catastrophic earthquake and the tsunami hitting Japan while the female soccer team was competing for the World Cup was also a remarkable approach to describe the strength of the sport providing some needed solace to the heart of the nation.

It is absurd for a reviewer who does not like football to criticize a sport he clearly does not understand (sounds like a troll). Stick to what you like and let the millions of fans who love soccer enjoy this very well done documentary.

Good series about football
parroyomartinez13 December 2020
As a football fan i watch these series with interest to learn more about the social side of football. Except for episodes two - very propagandistic- and 7 , which was boring and repeated as well as irrelevant, the other episodes did tell the story of life and links to the sport as a social and cultural event more than a sport.

Heart rendering
christhomaswales4 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
As a Liverpool supporter for 50 years I was particularly interested in episode 1 which focuses on the Rwanda reds . The individual stories of some that survived the genocide and those who did not is truly heart rendering . Football in this case has helped to heal a nation and its people after such a dreadful conflict.Watch out for there visit to Anfield , emotional and magnificent YNWA.

Emotions.
alexanderwsmith-5303120 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This documentary was recommended to me by a friend so I waded into the first episode unsure of whether I'd care for it or not. Like some of the Rwandans I too have been a Liverpool fan since the 2005 Champions League final which was my first real moment watching the sport in earnest. For obvious reasons I was entrapped in the heart and lore of Liverpool and I have suffered through many a mediocre season since as a fan of the club. The entire first episode of this series was a whirlwind of emotion as a Liverpool and football fan. Watching those men who had survived such evil as my lifetime has known walk into Anfield together and sing You'll Never Walk Alone had me absolutely bawling. What a beautiful piece of storytelling that episode was. I can't recommend it enough without even starting the rest of the series.

This will move you

A collection of remarkable human stories, told with the backdrop of football. If you're a football fan, it will move you. If you're not, still enjoyable if seen with an open mind. Right up there as one of the best football documentaries for me with "Make us dream".

Soccer Overcomes Socioeconomic Boundries
fleck05IMDB4 August 2019
Documentary on Amazon about soccer bringing cultures and countries together. Soccer remains earth's most popular, yet boring, sport to watch. But since it can be played anywhere for little cost, it allows poor countries an avenue to be athletically competitive with rich countries. In turn, various socioeconomic classes and cultures get to interact with each other in a richly diverse environment. Yay.

Of course, the whole show is built around the yawnfest Americans call soccer, so I can't go higher than a 4.

If you're one of the many people who, like me, prefer real football to soccer, check out Amazon's "All or Nothing." It goes behind the scenes of a real sport where people collide, schemes are complex, and a ball can be thrown instead of a sport where a bunch of people kick a ball around a field leading to a mind-numbing final score of 1-0. Ugh.
