In the dead of night, Team Estonia makes the risky decision to climb out of Waiga Canyon and escape the rising river waters to safety. With the course shut down due to a fast-moving tropical storm, teams are spread out all over the first two legs waiting for a break in the weather. As the sun rises on the morning of Day 3, Bear Grylls reopens the course and theteams resume racing. The front pack of teams are headed to Camp 2 looking to build upon their lead as the middle teams are struggling through the flooded Waiga Canyon. The Brazilian mothers from veteran Team Atenah Brasil recall their previous Eco Challenge experience 17 years earlier and how their lives have changed since then. A large pack of slower team's transition to their bikes, knowing they will have to ride hard as they face a race cutoff only hours away at Camp 1. Team Unbroken - just departing the volcanic island of Ovalau, celebrates the retrieval of the race medallion and continue onward to the main island. Home country hosts, Team Tabu Soro and Namako receive help and encouragement from the locals and feel the pressure to finish on their home turf. Team New Zealand maintains their lead as the five front-running teams get off of the traditional Bilibili raftsand begin another grueling mountain bike stage. The oldest athletes in the field, Team Stray Dogs struggle against exhaustion and the elements as they push to try and make the race cutoff at Camp 1. At Camp 1, assistant crew members wait nervously for their teams to arrive, including the father of the Indian sisters of Team Khukuri Warriors, the mother and wife to Team Able Abels, and the daughter of the team captain for Team Onyx. Upon arriving to Camp 1, teams enjoy a warm and emotional reunion. Team Stray Dogs continues fight against "the ravages of a few extra years" to stay in the race. Despite their unwavering determination, Team Unbroken is intercepted by Race Officials and delivered some bad news about their future in the race.
