- Veronica and Keith's client, Daniel Maloof, makes a shocking confession. Sheriff Langdon closes in on her top suspect. Veronica and Matty join forces, just as the whole investigation is flipped on its head.
- Veronica is jogging along the Neptune Beach foreshore at night. Her voiceover states that before the Sea Sprite explosion Neptune had been experiencing a crime wave. After she says this, she is accosted by a young man who holds a knife to her throat and demands her wallet and phone. Veronica recognises him as member of the PCH gang and tells him so, stating that she deduced this because he is a teenager and his "strangling hand" is wearing a motorcycle glove. She gets him to pull his knife away from her throat and distracts him by emptying coins from her coin purse onto the ground when he asks for her money. As he is distracted by this Veronica tasers him and he falls to the ground, dropping his knife which Veronica picks up. She takes a photo of him. She demands his wallet, and threatens to taser him if he doesn't comply. He gives her his wallet, and she takes the bag of wallets and phones he had already stolen from drunk spring breakers. In a voiceover, she states that his name is Juan Diego de la Cruz. She also states that she found six one hundred dollar bills in his wallet, and that it inspired a "conspiracy theory that will change her life".
In the daytime, Cartel members Alonzo Lozano and Dodie Mendoza are lying on beds in their motel room watching infomercials. Dodie remarks that he should get a knife he sees on an infomercial for his mother because her knives are too blunt, and he can't cook wit them. Alonzo says he hurt his back killing King Pagursky and Dodie muses that the hospital probably knows where Congressman Maloof is staying. There is a knock on the door and Dodie remarks that it's Alonzo's new girlfriend. Alonzo opens the door to a housekeeper who he flirts with.
Penn Epner is folding pizza boxes at Cho's Pizza while talking to Matty Ross. He tells her she was barking up the wrong tree by investigating Alpha-Jolly Amusements and tells her that the Maloofs were behind the bombing. He tells her that they tried to pay off Tawny, Alex's fiance, off and that when it didn't work they blew her up. Matty questions why the Maloofs would hire a private detective if they were behind the bombing, and Penn says it's because they are trying to throw people off their scent. Matty questions why Mars Investigations took the job, and Penn replies it is because they need money, and that they're not looking at the case with "fresh eyes" because of the Lilly Kane investigation. Matty asks who Lilly Kane is, and Penn explains that Lilly Kane was Veronica's best friend who was murdered, that Keith was the sheriff at the time and "bungled" the whole investigation and he was subsequently "ran out of town" by the people of Neptune. A coworker tells Penn that he has fans in the restaurant to see him and shoes Matty out. Two young men approach Penn and tell him they're big fans of his for taking down Maloof. They get him to sign their pizza box, and refer to Maloof as a "Cairo coon" and one says he "couldn't deal with another Hussein in DC", which gives Penn pause. A man named Tim Davids from KPVK San Diego comes in and asks Penn for an interview. Penn talks about how the interview should be structured but Davids isn't listening to him.
In the Maloof's hotel room, they are watching Penn's interview with Davids on the TV. Penn says he was a fan of Daniel Maloof and reiterates that he knows the Maloofs paid of Tawny to end her engagement with Alex, and that her refusal to walk away sealed her doom. Alex reacts negatively to hearing this, not having previously known his family had tried to pay Tawny off, and tells his mother in Arabic that Tawny was the love of his life. Amalia (Alex's mother) replies that they were doing him a favour. Alex reacts angrily, and Daniel insists that Amalia didn't mean it and tries to stop the pair from arguing. A knock on the door is heard and Logan opens it to find Keith and Veronica standing there. Daniel ushers Amalia and Alex out of the room, and Logan goes to the hall, so only Daniel, Veronica and Keith are left in the room. Daniel asks if Veronica and Keith wants a smoke and remarks that his father died of lung cancer two years ago but he needs a smoke. Daniel tells Keith he should have told them he tried to pay off Tawny. Keith and Veronica says it won't affect how they will proceed. Daniel tells them an email he received might, and shows Veronica and Keith an email which states "Re-enter the Senate race. Next time we won't miss.". Daniel tells them the same emailer has been blackmailing him for the past year, and that they have a compromising video of him. Veronica realises that Daniel's voting on automatic weapons and minimum wage were due to Daniel voting how the email blackmailer's tell him to vote. Daniel states he is quitting politics because he can't do it anymore, but he is afraid the bombing is the blackmailer's way of trying to get him to stay in politics. Daniel says this is why he hired the Mars': so if the bombing was because of him, he can know before the police and have some control over the damage. Veronica asks what's on the video. Daniel says the video is of him masturbating to a cam-girl and that the blackmailer's had hacked onto his computer and taken video. Veronica muses that it's not even "in pussy-grabbing range" and why even worry about it. Daniel replies that he has a wife and children and is worried about them seeing it, and that his reputation as a "Middle Eastern Barrack Obama" will be ruined. Daniel tells them he is sure they have the video and it's not a scam because they had sent him a sample. Veronica tells him they may have someone who can track down the blackmailer.
Dodie is watching the news in his hotel room while Alonzo is flirting with the woman from before again. The news states the Daniel is yet to emerge from his suite at the Neptune Grande, tipping off the pair as to where the Maloofs are.
Veronica and Keith are eating in the Mars Investigations office. Keith asks if the person who can trace the email's origins is who he thinks it is and Veronica says it is likely. Veronica says the blackmailer is probably not the bomber. Veronica questions how the blackmailer would know Alex was at the Sea Sprite and how they would get the bomb there, and Keith remarks that Jillian was only called down to the Sea Sprite lobby at the last minute, but that they should look into it just to be sure. Keith receives an alert on his phone telling him that a rat has been spotted on surveillance camera's at Hu's, the grocery store from episode one. Keith asks if Veronica wants to go with him to check it out but she declines.
At the police station, Mayor Mark Dobbins is chastising Chief Marcia Langdon over muggings, sexual assaults and the disappearance of Pagursky, which are going uninvestigated due to the police focusing on the bombings. The Mayor tells her to bring in the FBI. Chief Langdon goes to the interrogation room to find Congressman Maloof and Logan waiting. Logan tells Daniel that he is not buying him cigarettes. Chief Langdon asks who Logan is, and tells Daniel that he is not allowed to have Logan with him in the interrogation room. Logan goes out into the hallway and sees a poster on a notice board which he takes a photo of.
At Veronica and Logan's house, Veronica is cooking dinner. Veronica says she needs help from someone with top secret government clearance to help find Daniel's blackmailer, as she doesn't have the resources because Mac is in Istanbul, and asks Logan to help. Logan says he'll look into it. There is loud music and partying from the floor below them as it is being rent out to Air BnBer's for spring break. Logan mentions that the Maloofs don't know he speaks Arabic and that he is privy to conversations they think he doesn't understand. Logan tells Veronica that the idea to pay off Tawny came from Amalia and Daniel was unaware of it, and that both Amalia and Logan don't know why Daniel is leaving politics. Penn knocks at the door as he is delivering a pizza to them, which Veronica has set as a trap to talk to him. He says dogs love him for his "strong moral center" and because he "smells like pepperoni". Veronica says she'd ask him to elaborate but she could just hear all his inner feelings on The View later. Penn chastises her that she doesn't know every detail of the case. Veronica asks why he thinks the bombing was caused by the Maloofs and he says to follow the money. She asks if the Tawny bribe is all the evidence is all he has. Penn says he is waiting for forensics for a piece of shrapnel. Penn says he will reveal the results of the forensics at the next Murder Heads meeting. Logan receives a text from Dick which states "9-1-1 can you bring me pants, P.S. this is Dick". Veronica agrees to go with Logan to Comrade Quack's bar to deliver the pants to Dick because Nicole promised to get her footage of club the night before the Sea Sprite bombing.
In the bar, there is a cut-out of Dick wearing glitter, spandex shorts, a crown and cape. The real Dick is shown wearing a similar costume in the bar, announcing the beginning of a dancing competition. He then proceeds to dance for the crowd with some female backup dancers who rip off his pants, explaining why he needs Logan to bring the new pair. Veronica goes to Nicole's office to get the security footage. Veronica notices a glove with a heavy, ridged metal section on the knuckles belonging to Nicole on her desk. Logan and Dick come into the office and when she asks why he isn't judging the contest, he says he will give it 45 minutes so the dancers by plenty of drinks. Nicole and Dick flirt, which includes a joke at Logan's expense related to his failed proposal to Veronica. Dick mentions he is judging a volleyball contest this weekend. Nicole asks who wants to take some E. The foursome go downstairs and drink and party.
The next day, Veronica has a bad hangover and vomits. Keith comes to the apartment and notices that Veronica is hungover. Keith tells her he figured out who was releasing the rats at Hu's supermarket; a man in a uniform belonging to a bakery called "Sweet Release" which only hires ex-cons and did a stint in Chino. Keith says he was going to ask if she wanted to come. A man calls out from the background, who Veronica says is named "Jackson" and that they danced last night.
In the Mars Investigation's Office, Veronica is watching the Quack's security footage. She shows Keith footage of Nicole punching Jimmy Hatfield using her glove, which Veronica says is called a sap glove. Veronica says she wants one for Christmas and Keith jokes that he had already bought her a lovely puke bucket. Veronica says she found that Jimmy Hatfield was on the registered sex offender list. Keith says he found the man releasing the rats at Hu's supermarket, and that he confessed and was doing so because he had bought a bad steak from there, and Veronica and Keith muse that it is not a very reasonable motive.
Matty enters the office, and Keith introduces himself to her. Matty says she read up on the Mars' and that her physics teacher and Penn think they're legitimate. Matty says Penn is flaky and that he thinks JonBenet Ramsey was killed by an owl. Matty says she thinks a man at Alpha-Jolly may have planted the Sea Sprite bomb. She says that the week of the bombing, a man she didn't know came to fix their vending machine. Keith asks her if her dad had any enemies she knew about. She replies that someone was shitting in their ice machine every few days. Veronica asks if she'd recognise the man who filled the vending machine and Matty said she would and she remembered his mole.
Veronica and Matty go on a stake out outside Alpha-Jolly. Matty asks Veronica about Lilly and whether she was angry when she was murdered. Veronica says she's still angry, and Matty says that's good. Matty tells Veronica her dad was all she had. Veronica shows Matty how to use her camera to take a photo of the man with the mole. Matty asks how to take a selfie as a joke. Matty sees him walking down the street and takes photos of him. Veronica waits for him to go to his car and takes photos of his license plate. She says she will send the photos to Keith to follow up on.
Keith is on the phone with a woman who he has identified as being registered to the car the man with the mole got into. The woman is hostile and threatens to shoot him if he tries to scam her again, saying she's a member of a gun club. Keith rings Neptune Gun Club and asks for the woman (whose name is Sally Mais) and is told she is not there right now. Keith says he works for AMFTPG Financial Services and says that he is trying to verify charges made to Sally's card from "Mo Chub's Gentlemen's Club". He says they don't fit Sally's spending patterns and says it usually turns out that a boyfriend or son has made these charges. The woman he is speaking to says that it sounds like something Perry would do, who the woman on the phone elaborates as being Perry Walsh, Sally's boyfriend. After hanging up, he searches for background information on Perry Walsh and finds a photo of the man with the mole linked to his name.
Keith goes to see Chief Langdon and tells her the man attending to the vending machines the week of the Sea Sprite bombings was Perry Walsh, and that he did a stint in Chino prison two years ago for sending a package-bomb to his ex-girlfriend. Chief Langdon says there is no Perry Walsh on Alpha-Jolly's payroll. Keith shows Chief Langdon a photo Veronica took of Perry leaving Alpha-Jolly. Chief Langdon says she'll look into it. Keith leaves. Once he leaves, Chief Langdon orders another officer to mobilise a SWAT team immediately.
Back at the Maloof's hotel room, Logan is leaving for the day. Daniel Maloof is watching TV. Logan and Veronica go together to Penn's home for the Murderheads meeting. A man named Don attending the meeting remotely via video on a computer screen recognises Veronica and Logan, and refers to Logan as being an ex-boyfriend of the notorious D.L.K., which stands for Dead Lilly Kane. Logan points out he is also the son of her murderer. Veronica and Logan are asked by a woman named Carol if they're together, and Don retorts that they're too damaged to be with anyone else. Penn introduces another meeting attendee as Herc, a forensics expert and nightwatchmen at a mall. Veronica says they are there to talk about the bombing and forensic evidence. Penn says it is damning that the Maloofs have not released a statement, and a woman on one of the computer screens says this is because he hasn't been formally accused. Carol asks why nobody is talking about another victim, Gabriel Florez, and the fact his uncle, Oscar Diaz-Del Olmo AKA El Despiadodo, runs one of the most violent drug cartels in Mexico. Carol is subsequently introduced as a social media expert and reference librarian at Hearst, where Veronica used to work.
In the Maloof's hotel room, Daniel has run out of gum. Dodie and Alonzo are sitting in their car outside the Neptune Grande, waiting for one of the Maloofs. Daniel leaves the hotel and as Alonzo and Dodie watch, he is kidnapped by a white van. Alonzo and Dodie follow. Daniel has been kidnapped by Tawny's brothers who he recently argued with at the hospital. They take him to an outdoor area and tie him up on a fence, throwing rocks at him and demanding to know where Tawny's engagement ring went. They say they're glad that he blew Tawny to smithereens, which Daniel denies doing. Dodie and Alonzo show up. Dodie steals Tawny's brothers' van while Alonzo puts Daniel in his car.
Back at the Murderheads meeting, the Lilly Kane murder is being discussed, and Don suggests someone of equal size or smaller killed Lilly, and implies Veronica did it. Penn says that the forensics he had done were on a nail pulled from his back, which he says was manufactured in Tuscon at a plant where most of the employees are members of the Yakosh Indian tribe. Veronica asks why that matters, and Penn says that Daniel was head of the Indian Affairs Council and asks if that could really be a coincidence. At that moment, multiple phones buzz. It is a news alert saying that Perry Walsh, who was been identified as the Sea Sprite bomber, has blown himself up when the police tried to capture him. The report says there was a manifesto in his freezer suggesting misogyny to be the reason for the bombing. Penn suggest that Walsh was a patsy, and the meeting ends.
In Alonzo's car, Daniel thanks Alonzo for saving him. They pick up Dodie. Alonzo and Dodie tell Daniel they are going to kill him because he killed Gabriel Florez with the bomb. Daniel denies having anything to do with the bomb. Alonzo gets a text from Claudia, which is revealed to be the name of the housekeeper he has been flirting with, inviting him to a family barbecue. Incidentally, a radio report comes through announcing Perry Walsh as the Sea Sprite bomber and that he has been murdered. Dodie says they should still kill Daniel because he heard him talk about Claudia and he'll figure out their identities. Daniel offers them $100,000 not to be murdered. He says that to get the money, aside from not killing him, they also have to kill Tawny's brothers.
At Veronica and Logan's, Logan is leaving for work. When Veronica mentions that the bomber's dead, Logan says Daniel is probably more worried about Tawny's brothers. Keith arrives. Logan shows Keith and Veronica a photo of the poster he took at the police station, which is a wanted poster showing a photo of a man shitting into the ice box at the Sea Sprite. Veronica identifies him as Juan Diego de la Cruz, the man who mugged her. Keith and Logan are shocked to hear she was mugged. Keith and Veronica watch Chief Langdon talk about the death of Perry Walsh at a police press conference on the TV. She claims "diligent police work" was what allowed them to catch the bomber. Veronica and Keith are annoyed that Chief Langdon is taking credit for their work. Chief Langdon mentions Walsh's time in prison at Chino for sending a bomb to this ex-girlfriend, and Veronica makes the connection that Big Dick (Dick's father), his assistant Clyde, Perry Walsh, and the man from Sweet Release Bakery releasing rats into the supermarket all spent time in Chino. She theorised that her mugger Juan is working for someone who spent time in Chino due to the crispness of the bills she found in his wallet. She theorises that Dick and Clyde are using their Chino connections to kill spring break. Keith mentions Perry Walsh's manifesto, and Veronica suggests it was planted.
Keith is in a meeting with Clyde at his office, telling him he'll reconsider finding his ex. Keith asks if Perry Walsh spent time at the same time as him in Chino, and Clyde says he never met him. Clyde notices a photo of golfing shoes on Keith's desk; Keith asks where Clyde plays golf and he mentions playing at Vista Ensenada with Big Dick. Keith says he rarely plays golf and that he'll call Clyde when he has something. As Clyde leaves, he asks why Keith has a cane. Keith says he was in a car accident a few years ago and Clyde tells him he should use concierge medicine. He offers to get Keith in to see someone tomorrow for free due to the concierge plan Big Dick has Clyde on. Keith says he can't accept this, but Clyde says it would be a welcome distraction from the tasks Big Dick has Clyde doing. He plays Keith a recording as an example. The recording is of Big Dick requesting Clyde visit a man named Phil Gurney in Spin City and offer him two million for his studio and see if he'll sell him a heated massage table to give to Dick Jr. Clyde says Big Dick has him doing tasks like finding cheaper contractors and finding out what stripper's are on stage at Cockeye's Cabaret. Clyde encourages Keith to reconsider seeing the doctor. Veronica comes in and asks why Clyde was there. Keith says it was for research. Veronica tells Keith that Wallace is Matty's physics teacher, and Wallace told her that Realtor's have been trying to get Matty to sell the Sea Sprite, but that she hadn't heard from Big Dick or Clyde. Keith questions Big Dick and Clyde's involvement in the bombing. Keith mentions that Clyde didn't use guns in his robberies and dropped a woman in labour off at the hospital during one of his robbery getaway's. Keith questions the Chino connection and encourages them to drop the case and accept Perry Walsh as the bomber, due to their history of erroneously going after hunches. Veronica agrees to take the win.
At the Maloof's hotel room, Daniel is signing Veronica and Keith a check. Veronica asks if he is okay, referring to a gash on his head, and Daniel says he hit his head on the mirror in his bathroom. Alex Maloof asks if Veronica and Keith really think Perry Walsh did the bombings. Keith says yes, but Veronica says no.
In Keith's bathroom, he takes some pills from his pillbox. He is then shown in the doctor Clyde recommended, Dr Mitchell's, waiting room. He is told all his forms and details have been handled. Dr Mitchell tells Keith he wants him to keep a track of when his memory fails, and to call him the next time he has an episode. Keith then goes to have an MRI.
In an unspecified backyard, Weevil asks Hector who's cooking their food. Weevil says Paul should be cooking because the food is poor. Juan comes over to Weevil and tells him that his sister wants Weevil to meet someone. Weevil's sister is revealed to be Claudia, and the person she wants Weevil to meet is Alonzo. Weevil notices Alonzo's gang tattoo and sends Claudia away with an excuse. He questions whether Alonzo's visit from Mexico has anything to do with the bombings. Alonzo says he didn't set off the bombs. Weevil responds that doesn't answer the question, but says as long as he doesn't break Claudia's heart they'll be fine.
At the beach, Dick is hosting and competing in the volleyball contest to a crowd of spectators sitting on bleachers, including Veronica, Nicole and Wallace. Logan is competing in the contest. Logan and Dick are competing against a pair of women. The woman turn out to be professional and are beating Dick and Logan. All of a sudden, a loud explosion is heard and the crowd starts to run. In a voiceover, Veronica reflects on the fact she could've reassured Alex that Perry Walsh did commit the bombing and that they could've taken a win for a win, until the next bomb went off, and Veronica realises she was right that Perry Walsh was not the bomber.
