How come only Blue and Magenta appear in CGI?
ramon-rodriguez3120 September 2020
I remember watching a few episodes of the original Blue's Clues of the 1990s. That show was decent.

Many years later, I was a bit surprise Nickalodeon was releasing Blue's Clues and You which is a reboot of the 1990s series. What I appreciate most in this reboot are the catchy new theme song, and that Blue and Magenta are now in CGI.

But months later, I started to wonder. How come Blue and Magenta are the only animated characters in CGI? Why the other animated characters, such as the orange kitten and the purple joey, still have their old-fashioned visual look of the previous series? I do kinda like this reboot, but I wish they also upgrade the appearance of the other animated characters.

MY CHILDHOOD IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nickscheetz14 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I was a such a fanboy for the original Blue's Clues while I was growing up, and seeing Nickelodeon bring it back is one of the absolute best things they've ever done. This is a HUGE step forward for Nickelodeon, especially given its previous phase of lackluster projects.

The new host Josh, specifically hand-picked by Steve from the original series, is a perfect new host for the show and has the exact same energy and pleasant charisma that Steve had. He really manages to connect with us when he talks to the camera and retains a very genuine child-like innocence that makes him easy to enjoy spending time with. It always feels like he genuinely believes he exists in the world the show takes place in and is talking to these real existing creatures that he interacts with.

The changes and updates made to the world the characters live in do make the show feel up to date with current times but still stay true to the tone and nature of the original series such as Josh having his phone on the backside of his Handy Dandy Notebook and even getting emails during the mailtime segments. I can imagine some may have been skeptical and concerned because they might've thought the writers might be desperately trying to make the show hip and with the times, but I can assure whoever felt that way that the changes instead feel very natural.

The animation looks absolutely gorgeous with the vibrant colors and blend between CGI and Flash animation, bringing the characters into High-Definition while retaining the classic motion and style they originally had.

Steve and Joe actually play roles in the show as well, they may not be hosting it anymore but they stick around to be easter eggs that fans like me can get hyped to see whenever they pop up as well as occasionally giving Josh tips on how to adapt to what they did when they were the hosts, technically Steve has only made one appearance on the show but he is one of its consulting producers so hopefully he'll show up again in another episode at some point.

Overall I think I only have one problem with the show, I can't make out whether it wants to be a sequel to the original series or a remake of it. Even though there's always indications that it takes place after the events of the original series, every episode is a beat-for-beat remake of one of the original episodes. Snack Time, Blue's Story Time, Blue's Favorite Song, Magenta Comes Over, Blue's Sad Day, Blue's News, Blue's ABC's, Blue's Birthday (why would she want another turtle named Turquoise?), Math, Magenta Gets Glasses (why would she need to get glasses again?), What's So Funny?, The Grow Show, and Superfriends. I literally just named every episode they've redone up to this point, I guess if they're trying to introduce those episodes to our current generation of children I can understand that, but if you're not going to have Josh look for any original clues then don't have all these implications around telling us that we're in a setting that takes place years after the original series, heck, don't even have Steve and Joe even exist within the show. A better way this could've been handled is that Steve and Joe should've made cameos as different characters so that even if they aren't playing themselves people will still get the reference and you also should have Josh already be experienced on how to do everything. You need to either go all the way with making this feel like a sequel or not at all, there's no in between, I don't see how it's possible to be a remake and a sequel at the same time.

But despite my gripe with the show not having original episodes even though it takes place after the events of the original series, I still think it's both a great show, and a fantastic comeback for the franchise. Josh is still a great host, I like how Steve and Joe still play a part despite not being main characters, the updates to the settings still translate well, and it's just so pleasant to watch even ignoring the nostalgia factor. But I would advise you skip Blue's Sad Day, I consider it to be the weakest episode of the original series and unfortunately it was made to be even worse here. Either way, I still recommend you check this show out if you haven't already, because when you use your minds and take a step at a time, we can do anything that we want to do.

WHAT NICK JR. NEEDED (and that 1 star review is trash)
montjaskie19 January 2020
I grew up with the original Blues Clues and let me say this I love this reboot and so does my 4-year-old. ALSO, that 1-star review is a joke SOMETIMES Josh does emails, not consistently, it's an equal amount of emails vs. a regular letters. Also I think this may be the only show on Nick jr. that is saving the channel, all the other programming is trash. i mean BUTTER-BEANS CAFE, RAINBOW RANGERS, ABBY HATCHER, CORN AND PEG, RICKY ZOOM, AND RUSTY RIVETS. OMG dude. I mean my 4 year old enjoys these shows, i mean he's innocent he doesnt know better LOL. Those shows are trash TO ME< not to my 4 yr old. The only other show i can tolerate on that channel is............ Max and Ruby, probably because i grew up with it, and it's not trash LOL, BUT other than that that line up is trash. i miss Little Bill, Maggie and the Ferocious Beast, Oswald, Little Bear, Franklin, Etc.

Glad I gave it a chance!

I grew up on Blues Clues, it was my favorite show as a kid. I bought the DVDs for my boys and they also fell in love with them. I was hesitant at first about this new series...Blue looking so different and I didn't want them to modernize everything but so far it's been great! My 2 year old LOVES it!

This reboot is a great one
trevhall629 February 2020
I have grown up watching Blue's Clues, and I still watch it, despite being an adult. When I heard that they were rebooting the series, I approved of it because the original was one of those preschool shows that did not annoy you so much. After watching a few episodes of the reboot, I was impressed to see the notebook being an actual notebook and smartphone combined, Josh is a great host, they sometimes read the emails and letters, and the twists they put into the remakes of the classic Blue's Clues episodes. Basically, this show is just what this generation needs right now. The original series borrowed some key ideas from Mr Rogers's neighborhood. Actually, Fred Rogers appreciated what Blue's Clues was teaching younger viewers during the late 90s. I am proud to say that this reboot of Blue's Clues has maintain the core values of the original series and Fred Rogers' ideals when it comes to educating the new generation today.

Warning: Spoilers
I watched the original Blue's Clues with my little sister and now my daughter loves Blue's clues and you. They did such a great job on the first episode bringing Steve back to help teach Josh how to play. It's just like the original but a twist to the songs, and it's a good twist! Love it!

This is really cringe

Warning: Spoilers
When I first saw the ads for this show I thought it would be like the original. But nope, when I watched one episode and that was the first episode, this is just a cash in. Just a stupid frickin ass cash in. First they reuse plots from the original but they make it too modern that the show loses it's charm. Second, the new host Josh doesn't really give out a good vibe from the past, I know Steve and Joe are in the show but just ether for a cameo, or something else but it's not the same like in the original, and finally don't you get me started on Blue's design she looks like someone used a random 3d flash animator to CGI in fact it didn't even feel like I was watching Blues Clues, it felt like I was watch one of those fan made reboot shows that did get the two original cast back but with boring plot that we have seen before. And one more thing I can say the theme song in this is catchy but is forgettable, but everything else is horse ass. The only one good part of this is the voice acting and that's it. Everything else feels like frickin stupid pain in the ass!

Welcome back, my precious childhood
j-jessie-weaver13 November 2019
I practically ate the original 1996 show up like candy as a young child and to see it in this form is beyond believable.

Joshua Dela Cruz does a good job of being the host, and he has almost the exact same enthusiasm and charisma that Steve had. That attribute alone is a perfect example of how good this reboot is. The animation on the characters may take some time to get used to, but trust me, it is totally worth it.

Not only is this show adorable and colorful to look at, but it brings back memories of my love for the original Blue's Clues. Some episodes from were remade for this new series, and does it botch it up? Absolutely not! The show presents the original in a way that'll bring back the old audiences who used to watch the previous cartoon.

Without question, Blue's Clues and You is a reboot that adults, as well as children, can enjoy. I highly recommend this new series.

Old ones are better.. blue doesn't even look realistic
amm-459566 June 2021
I'm a 90's baby.. so I grew up with Steve. And I outgrew it well beyond when Joe came on. And although I have nothing against Josh. I just feel it's not the same. It's lost its more sentimental touch that the Steve and Joe seasons had. Not only that but blue just looks so fake. Like in the old ones he at least blended in with all the other characters and backgrounds. This just seems too forced.

I grew up on Blues Clues, and was honestly hesitant when this series came out. I have a three year old who has been asking to watch since the first ads came out. Her and I were both blown away! Josh is a fantastic host, and does a great job teaching this generation!

I was disgusted at what I saw.
ThunderKing614 April 2020
They are really running out of ideas.

When I saw this I almosted fell into a coma. It looked bad. The host is meh. The songs are bad even for kid standards. And 3d? . They had a segment where the mailbox told the host that he had an email when the host device was in his pocket. Dumb.

The host has very strange bad vibe. When you Compare him to Steve and Joe they had great energy and demeanor.

Why are they rebooting these classic shows into hash?

Don't they have any new ideas?

If you have high standards and is an ultimate perfectionist. I recommend that you don't watch the new blues clues. Anyone else who likes hash, lazy production, Viacom and dullness will enjoy this one.

It has some similarities to the classic old one but overall it's been butchered to look worse on purpose.

2021 update: I made this review back in 2020. After a certain episode I just want to say that I did tell you people to stay away.

A Fun and Educational Show for Kids, but is it too repetitive?
hdoerr-021083 January 2024
I recently tuned in to the reboot of Blue's Clues and You! It was a mixed bag for me. While the nostalgia factor was there, and seeing Blue and her friends again was great, the experience was underwhelming.

The show's format felt repetitive, with the same basic structure and formula used in every episode. The clues were easy to figure out, and the "mystery" at the center of each episode never felt particularly compelling.

The show will aim at a young audience, and many kids will enjoy the bright colors, catchy songs, and simple puzzles. And I did appreciate the effort to include more diversity in the cast and characters.

I would give Blue's Clues and You! A 5 out of 10. While it's not the best children's show out there, it's still a decent choice for parents looking for something safe and educational for their little ones.

It's cute
trafalgardeathsurgeonoflaw12 November 2019
I grew up with the original Blue's Clues and I am happy that the newer generations can experience this good wholesome show that's fun!

I watched a couple of episodes just to get more of a sense of nostalgia and it was actually pretty funny and cute! Children would love this reboot and I would recommend it to anyone who has children.

I also liked the Easter eggs of Steve and Joe in the first episode

The only thing I wish is that they would have showed the first episodes of Blue's Clues with Steve and Joe earlier so children new to Blue's Clues in general get a better sense of who they are.

kae-1637113 December 2019
We LOVE the reboot! My little sister watched the original growing up & now my 3 year old is into the reboot. We travel alot & buy DVDs for his DVD player & he's been asking for Blue's Clues. When can we expect DVDs? Oh & I love that the new guy throws in some sign language. Great way for my son to pick up on simple tidbits.

Love Blue's Clues & You!
bygrace-8396417 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I really like this reboot of the original! Josh has a great vibe, he's friendly and enthusiastic. My 18 month old LOVES the show. This is the only show she will watch from start to finish. That right there makes this one a winner at our house. The music is great and catchy but not annoying (I'm looking at you Paw Patrol). The stories are fun and it's actually pretty interesting for adults. I know many of us are sitting with our kids and have seen these episodes on a loop. I like that they throw in some funny stuff like "Bye Felicia" and Woodstock is the favorite episode by far. Josh brings his own flair to the show especially on the Blue's Bistro episode where he serenades the tables, I had the Cheesy Pizza! song stuck in my head. Love that they modernized the notebook to be a phone as well and the mailbox brings email too. It makes my baby happy and that makes me one happy mama.

Best Reboot Ever!
anastasialaguardia12 November 2019
Joshy is so cute! I really like Joshy because he smiles and winks a lot. The show would be better if the pedophilia symbol, little boy lover, is banished completely. Steve and Joe did an awesome job choosing their cousin Josh to be the new host of Blue's Clues & You. I really hope Joshy will play the piano in a future episode. With Blue now being furry, fluffy and huggable, we wouldn't even have to worry about her barking with her mouth closed. The new looks on Blue, Magenta and other characters look very real and very cool. I prefer the reboot version of Blue's Clues instead of the original version of Blue's Clues.

Love Josh
loveleighceramics6 February 2022
Josh seems so genuine and adds a touch of Rock & Roll to the show. I was 14 when Blue's Clues came out, but I had a much younger sister who loved it. Now I have my own toddler and he loves the new show as much as my sister loved the original.

Glad it's back!

My kids love it.
tink-281084 October 2022
We love Josh both my kids can't look away (9months and 2.5 years). Josh uses American Sign Language and Tagalog frequently which is great for culture emersion. The songs are pretty good and the content is always wholesome and educational. I think the episodes are fair as far as culture representation (very correct episode on Hanukah in addition to an episode about Christmas. Note I say culture and not religious because they did not bring in religion, but the holiday and it's activities). There's disability representation in its latest episode with a deaf cohost. Josh is a very considerate host, always asking if he can help instead of just helping.

More remake episodes, please?
alecb101410 February 2023
I know some episodes that are remakes of episodes from the original Blue's Clues have a bit of negative continuity, but I feel that the following episodes need "Blue's Clues & You!" remakes:

3. What's That Sound?

4. Signs

5. The Wrong Shirt - It was once rumored that this episode would get a remake.

6. Words

7. Blocks

8. Rhyme Time

9. Puppets

10. The Boat Float

11. Shape Searchers

12. Contraptions!

13. The Alphabet Train

As good as the original
daniel-owens248 February 2022
I am old enough to have watched the first series with Steve when I was younger. I now have kids of my own, and we love watching Blues Clues and You (5 and 6mo). Only annoying thing is that the songs get stuck in my head!

For the review that said "blue doesn't look realistic" - I want to point out that neither did the original, mainly due to it BEING GOD DAMN BLUE!

For the butthurt crying about modernisation (phones and emails) as well as Drag Queens - get a grip you archaic, narrow minded embarrassments. Kids TV should expose them to the world around them, but if you would prefer them staying closeted and for them to grow up to be as odious and out of touch as you, then just get them to consume Alex Ross or Breitbart from birth.

Josh is awesome!!!
haschultz-586561 November 2021
I grew up watching the original Blues Clue's and now my son watches this one. I know a lot of people who grew up on the original swear by it but honestly Josh is way better than Steve or Joe. Josh has such high energy and really connects with the kids. I tried putting on Steve for my son and he lost interest in 30 seconds so we switched back to Josh and he doesn't look away. Josh is the best!!!!! Love this show.

Very cute
trixiegirl6666 June 2020
I never personally liked Blues Clues when I was younger. And generally, I still don't lol. BUT my 1 1/2 yr old is obsessed! The 3D is so easy for her to follow and she giggles at Josh all the time. I tried showing her the older episodes and she just didn't like them. She always wants to see Josh and I love the lessons. I think Nick did a great job bringing this show back for the new generation of viewers and utilizing the technology available for better animation.
