- Wynonna finds herself on the wrong side of the law and Doc partners with a new demon.
- Wynonna returns to Purgatory and finds the town changed. She's soon arrested for Randy's murder, and finds herself cooking chili for her freedom. Meanwhile, Doc meets one of the town's new monsters, and becomes reacquainted with the town demons that are quarantined in Purgatory by order of the government.—Gislef
- Wynonna and Doc look at the corpses hanging around Purgatory, and then they go to the bar. The place is decorated with macramé, much to their surprise, and the menu displays vegan items. Chrissy Hedley comes up, greets Wynonna, and immediately throws a bottle at her. Wynonna grabs her in self-defense, and the men in the bar draw guns. After standing down, Chrissy tells Wynonna that she's under arrest for the murder of Randy.
The men take out Wynonna out to the gallows, and Doc goes with them, protesting Wynonna's innocence. Chrissy points out that Wynonna was last seen with Randy, and Doc draws his gun to stop everyone lynching Wynonna. The town sheriff, Clayborn, comes out, fires his guns into the air, and tells everyone to release Wynonna. Clayborn tells Chrissy that lynching isn't the way they do things in Purgatory. He helps Wynonna down and says that Wynonna will have a trial first, and takes her to the sheriff's station. Wynonna yells at Doc to get Nicole.
At the Homestead, Waverly is dancing around in the house in her lingerie. Rachel is sitting at the kitchen table and startles Waverly. The teenager introduces herself, and Waverly puts on a robe. A bell hooked up to a trap goes off, and Nicole and Rachel grab guns and run out, saying that there are monsters behind the barn. Waverly grabs a paddle and runs out, and they find Doc there in a bear trap. Nicole frees him, and Waverly greets Doc. Doc says that they've framed Wynonna for Randy's death.
At the sheriff station, Clayborn tosses Wynonna in a glass cell. She demands her phone call, but Clayborn isn't interested. The other prisoner introduces himself as Casey, and when Wynonna introduces his name Casey cowers in fear and screams. Wynonna asks for an explanation of what happened, and Casey says that after the town was evacuated, the demons came. They all just started showing up, and when the townspeople came back there were demons partying in the wood. Wynonna claims that Clayborn took Peacemaker, and Casey says that the only place scarier than in the station is out in the woods.
A driver stops when he comes to a dead animal on the road, and something demonic rips through the roof of the cab.
Back in the Homestead, Nicole says that a lot of people disappeared. Jeremy is okay but Nicole hasn't heard from the others. Doc tells Nicole that she alone kept the Homestead safe, and Nicole says that she had Rachel and the Earp shotgun. She says that there's a demon bar on Horsehead Trail. Doc asks about Charlene. Nicole directs him to Charlene, his car, and he drives off.
Doc goes to the club in town, the Glory Hole, and punches the bouncer unconscious. The Glory Hole comes out and introduces himself as the proprietor, and Doc tells him to hand Gardner over. The owner is unimpressed, and the bouncer recovers and tells Doc that he's a big fan. Mercedes says that the place is a demon bar and they're glad to welcome Doc there.
Madison comes out on the bar and starts stripping.
Waverly gets dressed and says that she's not going to let them lock Wynonna up. She tells Nicole that she's going to go into town and kick ass, and outside Rachel is milking skunk for scent for the traps. It's not going well. Nicole kisses Waverly and goes to help Rachel.
Casey says that he splattered one of his customers, a Medusa, knowing she was a medusa. He explains that the government sent a quarantine up around the town and won't let demons and criminals out. Clayborn comes up and tells Wynonna that she has a visitor. Waverly is posing as Wynonna's lawyer and demands that Wynonna get a trial. Clayborn Sheriff says that he's going to give her one.
The Magistrate, Cleo, comes in and the Sheriff tells her what's going on. Clayborn says that they need to manage Wynonna carefully, and talks to Cleo privately. They go into her office, and Waverly tells Wynonna that Doc set out to prove that Wynonna didn't kill Randy.
The owner and Doc watch Madison, and the owner says that the town is technically dry. Madison hugs Doc and says that it's a relief to see him. He wonders who turned her, and Madison says that she's not just faking it because it's safer. Doc tells her that Waverly is safe and Wynonna is in jail. Mercedes says that she nursed Randy back to health, and then he left on his own. She says that Purgatory was going downhill and Randy went into the woods. Doc wants Mercedes to testify that Randy is alive, but she refuses. She tells Doc that out at Grizzly Flats, Doc might find something to show the authorities but there's a demon there.
As Clayborn and Cleo talk, Waverly tells Wynonna that there are a lot of demons working for the authorities and they don't know how many of them are demons. Cleo come out and announces that says that all of their prisoners will compete for one chance at Freedom, in the Randy Nedley Chili Cook=Off for Freedom.
All of the prisoners are taken to the saloon to make Chili. Casey is with Wynonna, and says that Cleo keeps coming up with more insane contests. Waverly and Nicole come in, and Wynonna and Nicole hug. Waverly has brought chili supplies with her, and Cleo hits a bullhorn and tells the prisoners to start cooking. Wynonna goes to work, and Waverly and Nicole quickly start helping.
Doc goes to Grizzly Flats and finds a set of demon footprints. He finds the truck and splatters of blood, and bottles of alcohol in the back. The monster approaches the truck, growling, and Doc says that it's time that they met.
The prisoners work on their Chili, and Nicole tells Wynonna that Cleo showed up and made herself the Magistrate. As Nicole apologizes for not doing anything, Waverly comes over and helps them make vegan chili. Clayborn comes over and Nicole grants him, and he says that he hopes there's no bad feelings because she lost the election. He taunts her and wishes her good luck with the chili. Waverly comes over, realizing that Nicole is worried, and Nicole says that she's worried about Rachel. Her lover tells her to go home and check on the teenager, and Nicole leave. Meanwhile, Wynonna steals some of Casey's bacon.
The monster advances on the truck, shrugging off Doc's gunshots. He grabs a bottle of alcohol and runs.
Nicole returns to the homestead, and Rachel says that she used kombucha to bait the traps because the skunks run off. She ran into the monster and Doc yelled at it to draw its attention.
Wynonna makes meat chili, much to Waverly's disgust. Cleo says that she asked the second prettiest girl to come help her declare a winner. She calls Chrissy up, and Chrissy sees Wynonna and glares at the woman she thinks killed her father.
In the Homestead, Nicole fastens the windows and hears the monster growling. Doc pounds on the window, yelling at them to let him in. Rachel says that they have to let Doc in, but Nicole hesitates. When Rachel lets Doc in, he complains that they took forever and Nicole fires through the door, driving the monster off. Doc say that he plans to return to the woods, and both he and Rachel confirm that the monster is covered in puffballs, so while it's wounded is the best time to go after it.
Cleo sounds her bullhorn again, and Chrissy says that Randy had a complicated relationship with the cook-off. The mayor grabs Chrissy's speech notes from her and says that no one cares, and announces that Wynonna won. Wynonna yells in delight, and Cleo comes over and presents Wynonna with the trophy. Waverly tries Wynonna's chili and gags in disgust, and wonders why her sister was chosen the winner.
Cleo and Clayborn take Wynonna to the sheriff's station, and Cleo says that Wynonna won't be released from her manacles until she's taken to the borders. Wynonna tries to work out what Cleo is, and figures she's not a powerful supernatural entity or a Revenant.
Waverly returns to the homestead, and Doc says that the monster is now their enemy. He figures that it wants to take the Homestead, and Nicole says that she found Randy's shirt in one of her traps. Doc figures the puffballs took over a host, and suggests that the monster is Randy and it keeps coming from Nicole.
Cleo and Clayborn take Wynonna to the Triangle border, and Wynonna says that people will find out that Cleo didn't keep her word. The mayor doesn't care, and Wynonna figures that whatever vendetta has, it's personal. Unimpressed, Cleo shoves Wynonna down a slope, then walks down and says that they have to feed the monster to keep it out of Purgatory. She zip-ties Wynonna's legs and says that she and Clayborn know that they need to do the dirty jobs to keep the town safe. When Wynonna doesn't scream, Cleo stabs her in the leg, yells for the monster to come get Wynonna, and goes back to her car.
The monster comes out of the woods, just as Waverly arrives, knocks Cleo down, and runs to Wynonna to free her. Cleo goes to her car to get a weapon, and Waverly runs after her and tackles her. The two of them fight, while the monster advanced on Waverly.
As Waverly knocks out Cleo, Doc and Nicole arrive and yell that the monster is Randy. While Cleo drives off, Doc lassos Rand, and he and Waverly tackle him to the floor. Wynonna watches and laughs to see her team together, and Nicole uses a Super Soaker to blast the puffballs off of Randy. He looks over at Wynonna and wonders what he did, and Wynonna tells him that she survived and made it home.
Waverly frees Wynonna, and Randy asks Nicole what's going on and why he tastes skunk. Wynonna and Doc nod at each other before Doc walks off. The team go back to the saloon, and Randy and Chrissy are reunited. She asks Randy where he was, and he says that he doesn't remember. Chrissy thanks Wynonna, and says that since the evacuation things have gotten away from her. Wynonna hugs Randy and says that it's good to have him back, then leaves with Waverly. Randy tells Nicole that she should get Chrissy out, and then Randy complains that Chrissy did the cook-off without him
At the Glory Hole, Doc shows the owner the bottle he took. The owner says that he paid for the truck and isn't going to pay for his own property. Unimpressed, Doc says that he knows where the rest of the alcohol is, and the owner offers Doc something to quench his vampiric thirst. Doc says that he requires a future favor, and two thousand a load. The owner isn't happy, and Doc assures him that he's the best. After a moment, the owner takes Doc's hand and says that he smells like Heaven. Doc tips his hat to him and leaves.
That night at the Homestead, Nicole and Waverly lie in bed kissing. Waverly says that the Garden tries to fool her with a fake Nicole, but she wasn't deceived because she knows every cure and taste of Nicole. Wynonna slams the panty door downstairs, startling Nicole. Waverly asks her about the year and a half, and Nicole says that she's distracted and goes to check the traps. She agrees to let Waverly go with her and the two of them leave.
Chrissy dies to the edge of Purgatory and tells the guard that she's never returning. The guard goes to get her supervisor, and the supervisor tells Chrissy that she's cleared to leave. Chrissy tells the supervisor--Jeremy--that they're back and drives out of the Triangle.
At the Homestead, Wynonna approaches Rachel, who is sorting clothes including Wynonna's. Wynonna asks why Rachel left Monument, and Rachel says that she went with Nicole because she saw Nicole was a good person. She says that Nicole was alone for a long time, and Wynonna thanks her for taking care of Nicole. Rachel knows that Wynonna is the Heir, and Wynonna gets her clothes and leaves.
Wynonna goes out to the barn, and BBD soldiers surround her, arrest her, and put a bag over her head.
