Just don't. Save yourself some time and watch a better film.
hasanbolkiah-914278 July 2020
I rarely make a pass on films. I usually encourage watching things for yourself but this you can skip on and save some time. I do understand. The film is trying to be a proper musical but everything just falls short. A bland story we've seen plenty of times, mediocre performances (vocally and acting wise) plus the music is mixed badly, the songs don't stick and at the same time cringey. I don't understand why this film was pushed. As a fan of music and film, this hurt to watch. I usually look at the pros and cons but this just really threw me off the whole time. I even pushed myself to finish it so I could really analyze the film in a proper way. I just don't see why this mess is out there. It's all good messages and they do try to portray that but things just don't flow well. The pacing is really odd, the edits aren't pleasing. I just couldn't go on with this film in all aspects. That's my personal take but in a film aspect. Everything in this is just bad. To put it quickly. Just bad. 1/10 I do not recommend, watch something better.

Worst Movie Ever
chesneyhenrymarshall7 April 2021
On my usual scavenge for bad movies I came across this on Amazon prime. Obviously I had low expectations, the trailer looked straight out of Imovie! But somehow it couldn't even meet those low expectations. The terrible cinematography, acting and long drawn out songs left me fighting the urge to turn it off. To be honest I'm a fan of bad movies, I sat through Fred 3, Camp cool kids, 2 headed shark attack and many other terrible movies. I thought it would be just another funny bad movie, the difference between them is they were still interesting, they may have been cheesy and cringy but I still enjoyed watching them because there were some unexpected laughs. Its always fun to laugh at bad acting, terrible cgi and stupid scenes. With this movie they seemed to take everything I enjoy from a good movie and throw it out and everything from a bad movie and throw it out making it an utterly boring and a unenjoyable movie. By the last 30 minutes there were 3-4 songs lasting over 4 minutes with only 30 second breaks. We didn't even see the main characters until the final 4 minutes! It was agonizing. Before that the woman literally "died" after being in a walk in fridge for 5-6 minutes! It was embarrassing watching the whole scene fold out, with the ridiculous "voice to text" instead of calling her boyfriend and him taking SO long. I feel myself rambling on and on but I haven't even scratched the surface! There was no rehearsing for the play making it confusing because twenty minutes ago most of them "weren't it"? WHAT? It was extremely disappointing seeing how the barely used the girl who I found the best singer ( I do not remember any names but she sang with the boy in the bullying song in the red shoulder top) I thought she definitely had potential (saying that it may be because literally every other singer sucked) The long winded pool scene may have been the worst. WHAT WAS THE POINT? The story with the goth girl and her issues could've been explored more but it was really a 5 minute useless talk. Like the rest of the movie useless crap. Don't get me started on the "villain" who after "killing" the main character just disappeared? WTF?? Overall, if your like me and you enjoy bad movies, or just saw it and thought maybe I could try it. Don't. Don't waste 126 minutes of your life on this for lack of better word, utter garbage.

Horrid editing, terrible pacing, story feels thrown together... yeah, this isn't very good.
chensley-9395213 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
TLRD; The pacing is poor, the conflicts are just thrown together and don't have any impact on the story, and the quality is horrid. The acting itself isn't that bad, but the writing and editing are what makes this hard to watch. I'd only recommend it if you want a good laugh.

I came to find this movie when looking for High School Musical on Youtube. The first scene (ignoring the horrible singing) gave off 'let's get people to watch this by confusing them into thinking this is High School Musical!' vibes, so I sat down and decided to watch it. I quickly found out it was a Christain movie: nothing wrong with that, just a bit unexpected.

You become introduced to a pretty generic protagonist named Alex and her super quirky and weird best friend, who hardly shows up again until near the end of the film. There's a scene shortly after this where Alex is counseling a young girl, and halfway through their conversation, I suppose they forgot to record a line in the scene and the two randomly swap chairs... it goes to show the quality of this film. In fact, there are a lot of lines recorded afterward and (very obviously) slapped in later, but this was by far the funniest example.

Next, you're introduced to the teens the film gets its name from, despite some of them looking a little too old or young to fit into the "teen" category, but that doesn't matter because everyone calls them "kids" anyways. There's a random conflict between them and a huge fight breaks out. If I had to guess, it would be to show that the kids are going through a hard time at home, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense because this place is supposed to be their escape from that (which is why they're trying to save it in the first place).

Alex is completely broke and decides to turn to a party entertainer to make extra money. These scenes were honestly unneeded; hardly funny, didn't progress the story, were really awkward to watch and had a really dramatic song at the end to top it off.

Alex decides to call her ex (?), Max, all the way down from New York to write an entire musical to earn enough money to save the building, and when he asks what he'll get out of months worth of work done in a couple of days she proceeds to call him selfish for asking. After a musical number that looks like it was performed at the entrance of a gated community, he decided to help her.

This is where the antagonist is introduced, which, like many of the conflicts in this film, doesn't make any sense and the film would end the same way had they not happened. This conflict in particular is about an evil businessman (which you can tell because they went out of their way to hose the window he stands by to make it look like it was raining when in the next shot it's completely dry outside) who wants to buy out the property their teen daycare is.

Max now decides to hold auditions to see what he's working with. Right away it's extremely obvious that the director had no idea what an actual audition is like, which makes sense when you find out that most of the actors in this movie are volunteers. While the audition songs are cheesy, they're at least entertaining; not like the songs that follow, where you have to listen to 3 full-length songs in a row while the singer just stands still.

Alex, Max, and the teens all go to a pool to hang out, which I guess was to show Alex and Max slowly falling in love again. There's a scene where the emo girl and Alex talk about harming themselves, but it doesn't seem very natural or even necessary in a movie like this. The emo girl is never brought up again afterward, so I'm not sure why they decided to try to tackle a topic like that in the first place.

Finally, the night of the musical. They were really hyping it up, so I was quite excited to see it... when it ended up being a completely empty stage. No props, mediocre costumes, and nothing exciting until the last scene of the musical. I understand it's hard to write a play on top of writing a movie, but the ending of the movie IS the play! If you're going to advertise your movie as a musical inside a musical, at least try to make it entertaining. They might as well have called this a concert with how little anything happened.

As the concert is going on, the evil businessman tries to offer Alex money to buy her building. When she declines, OUT OF NOWHERE he hits her with a bat and stuffs her into a freezer to kill her. I was extremely shocked because there was hardly anything leading up to a big climax, especially one that involved murder. I will admit, the scene with her saying goodbye to Max on the phone while the songs in the musical played in the background was pretty cool if executed much, much better. Max breaks in and saves her from death, and then she comes back to the church to see the ending of the musical in completely good health.

Yeah, that's right. After Alex just DIED the story just continues on and you're forced to watch the most boring play of your life for 10 minutes. The evil business man doesn't go to jail, Alex doesn't care that she just rose from the dead, and the kids seem pretty fine too. The director comes in near the end to be the savior to all the main characters and pay for everything, which is nice. I'm glad that the person who wrote the script cast himself as the angel they needed.

...And that's that. I'm pretty sure the writer just had a vague idea of a plot and filled it with a ton of random side plots that are never mentioned again just to fill the time. Had half of the movie not happened we still would've ended with the same conclusion.

This movie stinks.

My Favorite Hate Watch

Where do I begin? With the dirty lenses, wooden performances, unmixed audio, cringe-worthy script, egregious self promotion? This movie really has it all.

The entire premise of this movie rests on a cliche, and the musical aspect is severely lacking with no numbers that drive the plot.

There seemed to be vacillating on whether Marc Mouton wanted to write a stage musical, or a movie, so for the entire second act, we are watching a stage play because he could not decide.

The only redeeming quality is the earnest attempt at an honest performance by the lead.

Upon learning the film had a substantial budget for an independent film, it really goes to show that money cannot fix everything.

In support of the arts
lilikayypark13 July 2020
This film is the work of many, and in support of the many artists who came together and shared their talent, I am giving it a thumbs up. It is the first film of an aspiring director, and it was a very big goal to take on. When I first saw the story line it reminded me of Sister Act -the story where Whoopi Goldberg played a nun and coached inner city kids to sing in a nunnery while hiding out from her mobster of a boyfriend. The main difference between the two films is the synergy and the flow of character development. A lot of time was given to the stage show in this film, whereas in Sister Act the stage show is only shown in snippets that highlighted the actual story line and no full songs were seen from beginning to end except a few very key songs to the characters development. Therefore, some may find this transition from story into full fledged stage performance 'jarring' and feel that the film does not flow well. The directors vision was to put a musical within a musical- this will feel strange for many as it is not a flow that many will be used to. There are golden moments all throughout though, and I sincerely hope those are seen and enjoyed.

Great Family Movie/Musical
marc-mouton-8875512 July 2020
LOVE IT! For those of us who were in GLEE or High School Drama, this community movie will bring back memories. I like the fact they brought the timeless "Godspell" movie/musical up-to-date for the GexX/Millennial kids of today. It truly is a "Musical inside of a Musical." Great catchy songs. I went on iTunes and bought the soundtrack after watching the movie. Fun way to spend a family-filled evening in quarantine.
