Canadian secret agent Terrence Meyers swears Murdoch to utter secrecy to help solve a matter of international security: Gaetan Vidal, the French delegate to sign i Toronto the Triple Entente with Britain and Russia, meant as an alliance strong enough to deter the German empire, was murdered in his hotel room, where a coded letter was stolen, probably by a conference participant. His attache and lover Régine Rivière, Terrence's even feistier ex, coaches and accompanies William, who impersonates him, aware of the dangers. Brackenreid is at the hotel, to welcome his old army buddy Montague 'Monty' Ainsworth, but Thomas's snob wife Margareth insisted to come along and nearly gives the game away hysterically. Only Julia was taken in confidence, to perform the autopsy, but gets semi-jealous of Régine. Murdoch dodges dangers -including a murderous German spy on hotel staff- and sets traps to test each delegation and sign as Vidal, to safeguard this shot at world peace. Meanwhile George's stay-cation is tainted by chores by cheered up by helping cutie Eric search for his 'stolen' toy car.
