Just rewatched season one. This ain't season one...
mattoid-456052 March 2020
So I was stoked season 2 finally dropped! Watched episode one and was lost. So I rewatched season one to refresh my memory. It was an exciting murder mystery fraught with twists and turns! Mega wealthy suspects! Intrigue! A dazzling look at the future! Suspenseful writing! Kinneman brought a tough as nails film noir-esque detective to his character but with a glint in the eye. He was great to watch as he really had an excellent time playing his role. Now we have "The Falcon". Ugh. He just doesn't understand the role. No energy. No wink of the eye. No clever Eastwood like one liners. I'm totally sticking with this season even though the plot has turned into a, "I have to find my girlfriend". BUT the show still looks great!

Hmmm

Whereas I do love Anthony Mackie one has to consider if his intensive relationship with the MCU damaged his ability to accurately portray Tak. Unlike Joel in season 1, he seems distant from the character like he's not truly inhabiting his body. The time jump of 30 years does help this somewhat, who knows what can happen to a person and how they can change over that time. This definitely isn't season 1, but is that a bad thing? Nothing in life is the same.

What on Earth am I watching

Kovacs in season 1 was an investigative genius never taking risks. This is just fighting and blood. Mackie shows that he has no acting skills whatsoever and is unable to weave a story or create a character. This is abysmal

Maybe next season
starrymndate-6846928 February 2020
I thought we would see Ortega and Riker unite. Riker meeting Kovac with a fulfilling ending or passing of a baton. I don't know why Kovac would not do anything for 30 years ... what has he been doing in that time ?!

Was hopeful for Mackie but now I see Netflix is riding the marvel train when they should have been strong on their own and relied on amazing actors, especially those unknown with amazing talent. Mackie was not believable as Kovac... he was just an actor doing his darnest to be Kovac, but there wasn't a trace of Kovac that was beautifully portrayed seamlessly and convincingly between Joel and Will.

Stopped middle of episode 2 , I don't really know what happened nor do I care... The plot has left me disappointed but maybe something or someone can conceive me

Ill just rewatch season 1 for the 4th time now :) Or read the book

A drama story

Can Kovacs stop acting like he has a relationship with his AI hotel please. He's said more words to him in this single episode than the entire first season

Comically bad execution of a great concept.
allnewsuperfake3 July 2020
It's been some time since I saw the first season. I remember being quite fond of it. However: Watching this new season showed me that it hadn't been too memorable after all. There were a lot of plot points and even characters that had completely slipped my mind. So, can this hold up when you don't have Kinnaman's run as Kovash fresh on your mind, and you even forgot his AI companion?

Sadly not.

While the scenario and the general plot are quite interesting and the cyberpunk aesthetics are to my liking, the dialogue and acting are barely sub-par. It often feels like watching cut-scenes in a videogame where the budget for motion-capturing ran out. The steady monologuing of the main character, or better: The monotone growling of pretentious platitudes while wading through videoclips in slow motion is a great instrument to cut my interest in half every time it happens. And it happens a lot. The stuttering performance of the governor is unbearable.

So all the reviews that say that this can't hold a candle to the first season might have a point. It doesn't feel like an entire waste of my time yet, but while the overall concept is still interesting, the execution is borderline unprofessional.

You Could At Least Try
ssourgirl31 October 2021
You could at least try to act remotely like Tak since you're supposed to just be in a new sleeve. Instead this Tak is an angry, flat character with no redeeming characteristics in his personality. Tak was emotionally complex. This actor is just not right and the allure of this show is gone.

Boring.

Someone took the words out of my...keyboard!

Someone wrote exactly what I was thinking. Mackie just is not good in this role. Joel Kinnanman was fantastic in season 1. These are starrymndate's words:
