Genuinely liked it and binged in one day
ginnypeeples12 December 2020
I genuinely liked the show and binged it in one day. It is a needed distraction! It was a blend of Lost and the 100; both of which I liked. If you don't like YA dystopian/survival shows or books, it may not be for you.

Yes this show has some unbelievable and silly aspects to it, but it's entertaining and every episode kept me wanting more. It's very bingeable!! The acting was quite good, season one is better than the second but I enjoyed both.

Left me wanting more
nikkileighmaz12 December 2020
I really liked this show, seems like most of the bad reviews didn't bother watching through to the end. Lots of unexpected twists and a cliff hanger that left me waiting for a season 2. The acting was a bit cheesy, but it's a YA series...what did you expect?

Another great show canceled!
pika5216029 July 2022
I am upset as another wonderful series gets the ax. I wish shows that have high ratings and dedicated viewers continue to be dropped.

The streaming services NEVER explain why. And again, a cliff hanger, to boot! Prime, not happy with you!!!!

This show deserves another season after that cliffhanger we got at the end of Season 2. The cast and characters deserve their closure/ending. Not to mention, The Wilds portrays more than a handful of varying representations across different groups such as the LGBTQ+ community, Indigenous people, the Black community, etc. It's clear as day that this show means a lot to the fans; all you have to do is look at Instagram and Twitter to see the dedication and hard work the fandom puts in to try to get the show renewed/picked up by another streaming service. Amazon Prime Video will forever be my #1 public enemy now. Give The Wilds one more season (one more chance)!

Don't judge with just one episode.
stephvali12 December 2020
I think most of the bad reviews are based on the first episode. Some say they didn't even watch until the end of the episode.

Give it a bit of time. It's not always about instant gratification. The episodes get better and the story develops at a nice pace.

Justice for The Wilds
AndiAgostiStan2 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I love this show especially season 1. I see a lot of people talking about plot holes and such but come on the whole show is supposed to be a mystery unraveling as we're watching, I'm sure MANY of the plot holes would have been fixed with a few more seasons.

I think the representation was really well executed, the characters <3333 they were so loveable and believable. I will always love the unsinkable 8 with my whole heart. I'm obsessed with found family shows and this THIS is a found family. We need justice for them not getting to finish their journeys. JUSTICE FOR TONI AND SHELBY!!! They deserve to get back together and be happy, to live a happy life!! And Leah and Fatin omggggg their chemistry was outstanding they deserve a change to explore that relationship, the fans who have been campaigning for them deserve it.

I do believe season 2 was a let down, the boys island and storylines felt unnecessary and took up way too much screen time. I found them way less likeable and really just not interesting to watch. I understand what they're point in adding them was but i think it was the downfall of the show.

I just wish they could have a change to make things better with a season 3 :(

Geez people are so hard to please
Avalala12 December 2020
Why did I like this show? Was it the best show ever? No... But it was good. It was fun to watch and it kept me intrigued. The bad reviews written 24 hours after the show came out... (are you serious?) they probably watched one episode and then stopped to complain. IMDB users are so hard to please these days. A show produced by Amazon is never a 1/10 get your head out of your booty. :)

One of the best shows right now
justinet-672412 August 2022
It really is. I mean of course it has its flaws but it's an amazingly entertaining series with both drama and comedy and a great cast of newcomers. Also, representation matters and this show has tons of it, it's so refreshing. Really wish I had had a show like this while being a teenager, it's a real shame it has been canceled, I really hope it will get picked up. Really worth the watch in any case.

I like it, despite the plotholes
veinctor13 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Yes this show is a lot like Lost: a group of people, stranded in an island, with a conspiracy lurking all around them. Flashbcks and Flashforwards are also here. But thankfully there are no supernatural element here, questions do not take whole seasons to be answered and you get to see the bad guys plan unfold.

Pros:
  • The show is not just about the characters or the conspiracy, but about their psychology. Where they come from, why they act the way they act and so on. I find this very interesting
  • Direction and plot and the actresses are all good.
  • The survivors without acting too smart, they dont act too stupid either. Their interactions are interesting.
  • Some things are justified well in the story.
  • I like that the bad guys also struggle and we see their point of view and thoughts.
  • Not all the girls are models, which adds to the realism. If anything, they have sunburn make up that makes them kind of ugly. They are quite diverse too. You got the christian girl, the athletic, the introvert etc. And it was bound to have a couple of lesbians in there, so it pretty much checks most of the trope boxes.

Cons:
  • As it happens often, when a conspiracy gets explained, many things don't add up. They left many things to chance, like, why they left a working phone with the survivors? Or how they pick these girls if the girls or their parents decided to go on their own free will, seemingly without manipulation? Or how is the island a safe place if there is quicksand, sharks and other dangers?
  • Too many coincidences or reused themes. Half the girls had someone die in their past, or were involved with an older guy or they come from troubled homes. You need to suspend your disbelief a lot to accept that "it was part of the plan" as all the girls were chosen for this.
  • Just 5 people pulling this conspiracy off, is a stretch. Let alone having a whole island full of cameras.
  • The bad guys end game feels shallow. One experiment doesnt prove anything and even if it did, it doesnt mean that all humanity will change its course. It's a biased experiment, and it doesn't really display the female potential in the creation of a matriarch world since they struggle and men are missing from the picture.

Incredible Representation
esfunder1 August 2022
This is one of the only coming of age shows that has LGBTQ+ and indigenous representation. Fans are loyal, invested, and want a conclusion to their favorite series. We need a third season!

It's ok, a decent watch but really not a must watch
WhateverIWant2914 December 2020
Decent watch, but not great. The concept is a bit different because it focuses on teen girls stuck on an island -it's like a Lord of the Flies meets Lost, but with Teens. You do have to get past the first episode to start enjoying it and it does get a bit better. I was entertained but could have also easily have given it a miss, there was nothing profound or groundbreaking that happened and although there were diverse characters with varying backgrounds, they were hard to relate to.

I think a lot of the negative reviews are because it takes a few episodes to get into it, understand it and mainly because the majority of the characters are unlikable. Most of them (aside from one or two) have little to no redeeming qualities and are irritating beyond belief. I don't know if it's intentional but most of them are horrible, and despite having "reasons", they're portrayed in a way that makes it hard to feel compassion or relate to. A few characters also don't quite make sense, the major plot has a number of alarming holes but maybe these will be addressed in the subsequent season. There is some bad acting and after a few episodes I now understand what the reviewer who said it's for a reason, meant. I do also have to say, as much as I despise Leah, the actress who portrays her gave a great performance - she plays unhinged brilliantly. I also think Fatti is underrated.

Generally, I feel like they missed an opportunity to do more with this type plot- There could have been more suspense, drama, more character development and more interesting questions on ethics. All in all if you have time to kill it's not awful but it really is anything great or even that I'd feel comfortable recommending.

Intrigued but wtf writers
kyle-8811916 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Very cool concept and the acting is pretty good but the writers could have done way better. The drama on the island is ridiculous and i find it extremely far fetched. The stuff they complain about is dumb and their drive to get off the island is so low it's crazy. One girl says she doesn't want to build a shelter because "she doesnt want to make this place feel like home". What? One cold night on the beach and those girls would be building a shelter first thing in the morning. I just felt like a little common sense could've gone a long way. I know they want to make it seem like these girls don't know anything survival-wise but damn...

Had me hooked!
cmwag4 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So i'm a late comer to this show, i just started it this summer after seeing a promo for the second season. I watched with my family, and MAN, we were hooked! We scheduled dinners together so we could literally talking theories of what we think will happen! Despite the backlash, i thought the second season was also really good! The boys weren't as entertaining as the girls, but i still had to binge. Each episode had enough suspense leaving me wanting more! I was really looking forward in seeing how the two groups would interact with each other.

Finally, the representation in this show is so important. They did a fantastic job handling LGBTQ+ issues, BIPOC, women empowerment, being a man raised around toxic masculinity, etc. I don't understand the "woke" argument because this show accurately represents what it is like to be a teenager with those identities and struggles- which really truly helps people learn about themselves and accept themselves. (and it also accurately depicts the female vs male behaviors on the island)

overall, this show was fun, entertaining, suspenseful, and just plain good. Amazon made a huge mistake canceling it because it was one of the good ones in an industry of recycled shows. Hopefully someone picks it up!

Please don't listen to the bad reviews
lovethesun12 December 2020
Considering there were reviews left here almost instantly after this series hit Amazon prime, there is no doubt that those reviewer's did not watch 10 hours/10 episodes before leaving their scathing reviews. If you can't bring yourself to watch an entire movie/series before giving your opinion, maybe you should just not say anything. I personally really enjoyed it. Is it the greatest series I've ever seen? Of course not but I still found it enjoyable and look forward to the next season.

UPDATE: Avoid season 2 at all cost.

Great show
annehelene7 July 2022
Bingewatched the 2 seasons in 3 days. The girls are definitely the best part of the show, and the boys were harder to connect to (and not as likeable) but I'm excited to see where season 3 will go.

Started watching this show just to pass the time, but ended up being really invested in the girls' storylines. Watch it if you want to watch a series with a focus on badass girls who are relatable and realistically portrayed.

Not terrible...
djkaine13 December 2020
But it wasn't good either. Somewhere in between. The characters are wayyyyy too extra. No character is more annoying than Leah. Leah can easily replace the girl on the crazy ex gf meme. If they would have dialed the characters down about 25 percent, it would have been better. The plot is just a bit silly and kinda pointless, but I think the show is more meant as a character study. It somehow strangely keeps your interest, so good on them for that. The girls are all pretty good at acting their parts and were believable in their rolls, even though they were directed to be over the top a lot, and I mean A LOT.

10/10 amazing and incredible. The best queer and poc representation I've ever seen. Such strong and talented actresses especially considering this is almost all of their first roles. It's so unique and interesting. I've gotten ten people to watch and they are all HOOKED.

People calling this LOST 2.0 must not have watched very far
shane118120 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This isn't LOST at all since-spoilers-the whole thing is a highly organized and planned social experiment being observed 24/7. It's more like the Stanford Prison Experiment, but without consent of the observed. If LOST involved cameras and scientists watching the whole thing, then I clearly missed the whole point of that show. To illustrate my point, they didn't even really crash a plane! It was staged. The "survivors" only think the plane has crashed based on the crap they find washed up on shore and listening to a staged black box flight recorder. After that, they are dependent on "whatever the ocean delivers," but this isn't exactly LOST. It felt more like Naked and Afraid to me (but 8 of the 9 girls don't know that's what it is, nor did they consent to it).

To those questing how all these girls could coincidentally have so much trauma in their history, were we watching the same show? The experimenter says many times throughout the first season that each girl was chosen specifically for these qualities in their backstory! That was by design. Why ... I guess it contributes to their individual psychology, but that isn't fully elucidated (in this first season). Based on a few snipits of the main researcher, I think she believes this is a revolutionary method for treating PTSD and is thus helping these girls to move past roadblocks in their personal development ... like the diver's bulemia, the orphan's rage and rez dancer's denial. I mean isn't that how she sells this all-girl "summer camp" to the parents as a way for the girls to self-actualize, make lasting friendships and enjoy their youth? Perhaps they are leaving these questions for season two when they compare results of the experiment to the Lord of the Flies "control group" of all boys ...

Big diversity points to the writers: I loved the decision to include two Rez girls with what appears to be a realistic portrayal of their backgrounds. I so rarely see Native American stories told in mainstream dramas ...

I have so many questions of my own because the writing was purposefully vague on the island choosing to focus on the girls backstories:

(1) Why are the experimenters worried about Martha's parents suing? Did she die? They never show her in a post-rescue interview, but they also end the first season before everyone is rescued ...

(2) Shark attack? Really. If that's on day 23 (episode 10), then how long have they been at the post-rescue center? Rachel's injury looked completely healed when she's being interviewed and that has got to take months ...

(3) What is with Takis chips? Never heard of them, but the show makes them look like crack. They are referred to several times in different characters backstories and on the island.

(4) What is with Leah obsessing over the 30-something writer who is naive enough to believe she's 18? This relationship is just so hard for me to buy unless both Leah and Jason have some other baggage they aren't showing us ... like what's Leah's relationship with her father? Why don't we see any of her family life? Why would a 30-something man hang out with a teen girl over and over again? Her parents clearly love her and are concerned about how depressed she's been so I feel like her backstory is really shallow and unbelievable. Why would a girl be that depressed and lovelorn over a guy unless there's something else wrong? This needed more for me to buy it. (The actress was great at being melodramatic, obsessive and suspicious-my criticism is only directed at the writing of her character.)

(5) What did they eat until Day 20 exactly seeing as they had only gone two days without food when Martha killed the goat? They mentioned bags of macadamia nuts and gathered fruit, plus Janette's protein bars, and obviously the tainted mussels, which made them worse off than if they had skipped them altogether. How come they weren't more gaunt and low in energy if that's all they'd been eating?! I've watched enough Naked and Afraid to know that you have to eat some protein or you start going crazy after 5-7 days and are delirious by day 10.

(6) Why is Shelby going into anaphylactic shock in the last episode? They should know that she can't eat shellfish! Did she do this on purpose since they mention she's been despondent and angry since rescue? ... all out of character for the perpetually cheerful and optimistic Christian pageant Queen.

Overall I give the first season 6 stars. I will watch the second season-if they make it-if only to see what happens next. This definitely held my interest, and with a few small changes I think it could have been a solid 8/10. I would have liked to see a little more of what happened on the island with a more streamlined look at each girls trauma backstory. Additionally I think they could have advanced the ending of season one to a better point ... when it ended I felt like saying out loud that's it?! It didn't resolve much of any of the conflicts created except that I know how Rachel lost her hand. Too many unanswered questions for a full 10-episode series.

Absolutely loved it(somewhat spoilers)
averybrooke28 June 2022
Loved this show!! Not only do you get to experience the characters development on the island; you also get to experience what brought each character into this situation. I love to guess what happens in a show/movie and this is one you can not predict. There were some obvious pointers as to whom the confidants were, but their behaviors on the island were quite surprising and not predictable at all. I truly enjoy the range of characters they created and how it expresses psychological analysis of characters. There are characters to empathize and hate, empathize and love, and just a complex dealing of love and hate. I recommend this show to anyone I know cause I enjoyed it so much and I can't wait for another season!

Interesting, but deeply flawed
supersolipsist15 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It's a decent show, but there are so many problems with its premise that it's a little ridiculous.

First, let's start with the "experiment" itself. For one it's incredibly illegal and unethical. Even if it was a success, all of the researchers conducting it would go to prison for kidnapping, reckless endangerment, manslaughter, evidence tampering, conspiracy and a host of other charges, and no scientist would ever take their work seriously. For that matter, no scientist would ever even sign on to such an experiment given that they would know how illegal and unethical it is.

As for the experiment itself, it's supposedly meant to prove that without men, women would create some sort of utopian society. That makes one wonder why the subjects chosen are all such deeply flawed people, rather than the best possible candidates. Rather than choose organized, highly motivated women who would fare well, they choose teenage girls with deep seated emotional issues.

First there's Leah, who at the best of times is an obsessive paranoid mess. Rachel may be an accomplished athlete, but she has anger issues and an inferiority complex. Tony(sp) has serious anger and jealousy issues. Fatma is a lazy socialite somehow despite being raised in an oppressive household that didn't even let her have much of a social life. Shelby is obsessed with her self image and in massive denial about who she really is for the majority of the season, and then maybe has a psychotic break or something at some point. Martha is in utter denial about a whole host of things. Then there's Dora, who is possibly on the spectrum and obsessed with her sister(yet doesn't put a stop to things at literally any point). Dot is really the only solid one.

None of them, besides dot and maybe Fatma, are able to really compartmentalize their issues and work together in any meaningful way.

So basically the experiment is an utter failure that never had any chance of success.

Still, it is an interesting show and is worth a watch, just wish they had really considered these issues when writing, because they're glaring problems.

Really?
designfxsa30 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So it takes 3+ days for a group of stranded but intelligent teens with enough survival gear (including an axe and lighter), to sort of decide that they need to build shelter but continue to complain that they don't want to build shelter to protect themselves from the harsh elements because they don't want to get comfortable because help is coming! Really?

They then build their shelter, right on the beach! Basically in harms way of the wind, rain, storms etc really now? Why wouldn't you move and build in land, under a canopy of leaves? Pathetic!

Moving forward, they have a lighter and keep their fire going but fail to dig a massive pit and load the pit with green leaves and dry branches, which would create some sort of massive black smoke signal! Really now?

So they finally find a decent little waterfall with what seems to be a fresh water pond but don't move their camp there, instead they decide its a good idea to rather transport fresh water daily in a plastic box of sorts to their camp on the beach! Really? How ridiculous is that!?

How can all these teens be so intelligent and stupid at the same time? I really hope the people that watch this can learn from this show, especially the youth of today! Learn basic survival skills, watch a few Bear Gryll shows and most certainly, do not do what these teens did! Well worth a skip!

The show is amazing and has very relatable characters. There is a character for everyone. Especially after the second season when the guys were introduced. However it was sadly left off on a cliff hanger. I hope someone else will pick up this great show!

It's a niche show just like every show is it does what other shows don't do it provides diverse representation and that representation deserves to be on screens.
