It could have been better. It had potential. The general idea/concept was highly interesting, yet the execution was ridiculously weak. An esthetically intriguing series ruined by inconsistent storytelling. The first episode does not feel connected, in anyway, to the rest of the heavily serialized episodes. The performances are great, the dialogue feels faithful to the era, the music is amazing, but the overall storytelling inconsistencies made the viewing experience difficult. It could have used more work on scripts, and certainly more figuring-out whether they wanted it to be a historical series or a melodramatic romantic soap opera with a historical setting.
