I Think Doctor Seuss Stole This One
When her employer announces that relatives will be coming to visit, housemaid Little Chrysia goes into overdrive, dusting the smokestacks, washing the piano, and enlisting her friends, relations and a paddling of ducks in the sink, to make sure everything is ship shape and Bristol fashion -- at the bottom of the sea.
It's the sort of slapstick short I've seen before, but there's little doubt that Little Chrysia and company put a lot of effort into the matter, more than enough to raise some giggles at the trope. American silent comedy fans may recognize the gag as a variation on the ending one in SWEEDIE LEARNS TO SWIM. Alternatively, it seems to be the plot of both THE CAT IN THE HAT and THE CAT IN THE HAT COMES BACK. There's nothing so old it isn't new to someone.
