Plot Summary

A talented Muslim Craftsman and widower, Alla Rakha of Varanasi gets boycotted by his community; his son doesn't get admission in Madarsa and police catches and beats him only because he engraves Gods in Hindu Temples. Alla's best and only friend Samad steals the Temple gold from Alla's custody. Alla tries to keep Samad out of this situation but Samad goes to jail for it. A year later Alla gains popularity as a symbol of accord with a news article for which Munna, an aspirant Hindu politician loses his election ticket. What happens to Alla, a cast-off from his commune and disdained from Samad and Munna is the tale of The Craftsman.
