An Innocent Child of Nature and a Snickers Bar
lavatch31 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The time is 2003. The place is Romania. A desperate father enters a high security state run baby factory ("Camp G") in an effort to regain his captive infant daughter. The mother and father flee the scene, but they are detected by a chopper and the nefarious security official Marissa Wiegler. The mother is killed, but the father escapes with his baby daughter into the majestic Bukovina forest on the border of Romania and Ukraine.

Fifteen years pass as the daughter is raised in the wild by her overly protective father. She receives "training" in martial arts, survival skills, and firearms. It is not clear where they get the ammunition in their cave retreat. They are certainly not enjoying a balanced diet.

Eventually, young Hanna wants to see the world, and she ventures beyond the limits proscribed by her father. She meets a nice, young logger boy named Arvo, who gives her Snickers bar. She seems much more interested in the chocolate than the boy.

Meeting Arvo was a fateful error on the part on young Hanna. Wiegler and her team are still seeking the "child of nature" after the passing of fifteen years. The father and daughter are rousted out of their cave, and they split up in the woods. Hanna is given the instructions to find a contact named Peter Olsen. There is an apparent safe house in Berlin at 224 Heim Strasse. She is also to be on the lookout for a dog named Bruno.

It is not clear if the father Erik escapes. But Hanna is captured and carried off by the authorities.

The game is on!

Incredible Heroine

It took me 3 goes to get into this show, I am so glad that I persevered to end up binge watching the whole of series 1, there will surely be a series 2 and more. It was only in the last episode that I looked up Esme's bio. I was amazed to find that she was English, her carrying off of a "Neutral European" accent was amazing, as was her "coming of age". I am going to have to watch the series again in a couple of weeks just to see what or if I might have missed.

Potential

Despite some minor blunders I see some serious potential here, since Amazon has delivered quite a few wonderful productions lately. A talented cast, suspenseful settings, nice cinematography and some sweet editing gives this show a promising start.

He Left Me. He Said I Was Too Slow.
wandernn1-81-6832749 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Romania 2003-

Is that Joel Kinnaman? He looks so different now. He was so thin in the Killing as Holder. Now he's all filled out and almost normal looking.

So to start us off, dude semi stealths into facility to...liberate a baby?? Pursued and fired upon by guards, he meets up with woman in the woods and escapes in a car.

Lol is that his old partner from the Killing?? Oh it is!!! Enter Mirelle Enos in pursuit. Funny change to pursuer from former partner. Oh well, that was a different show!!! :)

I knew mommy wasn't going to fare well in the escape, and she didn't. Ruh Roh. The old exploding car trick! Enough of a cover to escape with the baby into....dunh dunh dunhhhhh... The Forest!!!

Okay good here, +1 Star for the opening sequence.

Fast forward a good amount of years apparently. Kid is now...teens? Daddy has a beard. Girl has been well trained and kicks daddy's butt. Girl also knows different languages and a little bit of random trivia. Great education she seems to have received off grid in the woods her whole life thus far.

This is nice. They spend their days in physical training, gun practice, and hunting wabbits! Daddy is preparing youngin for quite the life here. But of course as expected, Hanna is expressing her strong desire of wanderlust to Daddy.

Amazingly beautiful country this is shot in. Love the landscape.

Ruh Roh, Hanna sneaks off and finds 'civilization' , a lumberjack cutting wood. Haha, her first outside contact and she pisses dude off. He rides off and leaves her. You know now the S is going to hit the fan.

Daddy is keeping too many secrets from Hanna, after all these years. Hanna finally speaks out. Hanna returns to the lumberboy, and they go for a ride on his 4wheel. They sneak up onto a satellite dish, and are busted by police. Hanna runs off and escapes.

+1 Star for the buildup.

Word of this incident gets back to Nirielle, who sends in the Marines. Eric and Hanna run off. The troops are in the trees, thick as thieves. Eric has prepared Hanna well for this moment. Eric and Hanna split up and Hanna allows herself to get captured.

+1 Star for Hanna's seeing the exit from the Forest for the first time.

Episode gets 8/10

A good start

My first time watching a Amazon original and i like it so far. An unique take on a story using a girl instead of a boy, which I really like. A little rushed for the first episode but so far 10 times better then Knightfall on Netflix. Only thing i hate is they had to include her getting her period. Every single time there is a story about a young girl they have that . Why? It's not important is not necessary and it's gross. Every time there's a story about a young boy you don't show him getting his first E-word and making it super awkward.. Sheesh.

Decent beginning, but I don't think it'll be THAT good.
LegendaryFang5612 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Decent beginning. I haven't watched the movie (yet), but I imagine Hanna is some sort of an enhanced human being. That's already very likely given that she hears things a little before someone else does, and that loud noises cause her to cover her ears, not because she's never heard them before but because they're much louder to her due to enhanced hearing/senses. Either she was an ordinary child, born normally, that was experimented on, or she was never ordinary from the start. I doubt she's the biological daughter of Erik and his girlfriend as well. I may be off the mark with that assumption, I'll admit, but I don't think I'm incorrect with the theory that she's enhanced in some way. Overall, I didn't get the impression that this will be THAT good, just that it'll be good enough for watchable material to pass the time.

Rushed and nonsensical
conjh13-131 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I tried watching this, but didn't even manage to get halfway through. None of it is believable as portrayed. First, you have the father just walking into the room full of babies and walking out with his daughter... in a facility secured by armed guards and chain-link fence, yet they had literally no one even paying attention to the babies? Ok... a bit tough to buy, but I continued. Next we get to the way-overused trope of hot-wiring a car with no tools, which conveniently has exactly the right wires stripped and no steering lock, just like always. I gave this one a pass too, because by now what's the point, it's used everywhere. The chase scene is OK. Nothing special, nothing awful. But then we flash-forward 15 years, where they are living in a forest and supposedly have had ZERO contact with ANYONE this entire time, yet they clearly have manufactured clothes, tools, equipment, etc. And then there's the scene where she runs away for the day, and meets the logger guy, and none of her interactions seem accurate for someone that isolated from birth. In short, the father and daughter look and act like they have been hiding out for maybe a year at the most.

What little story there was to this point was not developed at all, with nothing adequately explained. And none of the action or premises was anything particularly unique or interesting; all of this has been done many times before, and better.

I don't know, maybe it gets better but it drove me away before I got to anything good.

Hurried to the point of being nonsensical
culbeda-533-4469655 July 2020
The episode starts out with every hurried scene trying to set up too much of the story. It all feels forced and contrived. The concept is there, but the execution and delivery aren't up to the same caliber.
