This episode and Once Upon a Time (2018) were originally supposed to air during season 4, but because Fox canceled the show, they were aired as "bonus episodes" even though they don't fit chronologically after the finale.
According to co-showrunner Joe Henderson in an interview with TVLine, this episode is best watched between High School Poppycock (2018) and Infernal Guinea Pig (2018). He feels it belongs "right before we bring Abel back to life. I think it fits really nicely in there, like, as a fun exploration-of-Ella episode."
This is the first time that Ella is shown arriving at a crime scene. At all her other crime scenes, she's already there before Lucifer and Chloe come in.
Because of Chloe's mention of having seen "a lot crazier things" and early co-showrunner hints, it could be theorized this episode takes place after A Devil of My Word (2018). However, in a May 2019 interview with Digital Spy, co-showrunner Joe Henderson suggested it could also be placed between High School Poppycock (2018) and Infernal Guinea Pig (2018) of season 3 in the series canon for those who would like to view "in order," provided one recasts Chloe's mention of having seen "a lot crazier things" as being a reference to all the other unlikely things she's witnessed before A Devil of My Word (2018).
